13 October - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, thanks for joining me for your afternoon weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Not a great deal to update you on really.
00:07The weather patterns are pretty static at the moment and here's the reason why.
00:11Chunky area of high pressure sitting right over us.
00:14Where are all the lows?
00:15Well, there's this big one sitting out in the Atlantic, but it's not barrelling towards us.
00:18It's just kind of milling around and this area of high pressure is static, giving us a lot of dry weather.
00:25Although it was quite damp and drizzly this morning.
00:27This cloud bank has been thick enough to provide a little bit of drizzle and will continue to do so,
00:32especially over parts of eastern England.
00:34So it's not completely dry, but many areas will be dry.
00:37In the west and especially across parts of Scotland, we've got some good breaks in the clouds.
00:41So plenty of sunshine on offer across Scotland and indeed parts of Northern Ireland.
00:45West Wales, southwest England also may see some blue skies, but elsewhere it's likely to stay pretty grey.
00:52It feels cool under the thick cloud, especially if you've got a bit of drizzle.
00:56Some brightness in the southeast could see highs of 17 or 18.
00:59Meanwhile, just 13 or 14 across Scotland feels pretty pleasant with the light winds and in that autumn sunshine.
01:06As we go through the evening and overnight, not a great deal of change.
01:08Still enough of a breeze to generate a few showers, light drizzly showers really coming into parts of Suffolk, Essex and Kent especially.
01:16And the cloud will thicken up again over parts of the Midlands, northeast England, to provide some light rain and drizzle overnight.
01:22But otherwise, again, most places having a dry night.
01:26Where the skies are clearest across Scotland, we will see the mist and the fog reforming.
01:30We'll also see the temperatures falling down into single figures here, whereas for the south, we'll stay in double digits as we head into Tuesday morning.
01:39Again, a bit damp to begin with over the Midlands, eastern England, some drizzly conditions here and there.
01:44Some of that fog could linger through the morning rush out through, say, the central belt and, of course, parts of eastern Scotland too.
01:51Western Scotland, though, should see another by and large sunny day.
01:54And the mist and fog should clear to reveal some sunny spells once more across Scotland.
01:58Again, parts of southwest England should do OK for a bit of blue sky, but for many, it'll be a rather grey Tuesday once more.
02:06That cloud just kind of sitting around, nothing really to shift it under the influence of that big area of high pressure.
02:13And again, the cloud makes a big difference to the feel of the day.
02:15Temperatures generally pretty close to the average for the time of year.
02:18But in the sunshine, it feels very pleasant.
02:21Where in the skies are fairly grey, it does feel quite cool.
02:25Now, the area of high pressure isn't going anywhere very quickly.
02:28It sticks around through Tuesday evening.
02:30So, again, a lousy dry evening where we've got the clear skies.
02:33Again, it'll turn cold.
02:35Again, it could turn a little bit misty and foggy.
02:38And that high pressure just meanders a little to the north through the middle of the week.
02:42And then it meanders a little bit to the east towards the end of the week, allowing weather fronts just to get a little closer as we head into the weekend.
02:51But still, generally sitting out west even by Saturday.
02:54So, that means, yes, there'll be some drizzle here and there.
02:57But many places will be pretty dry through the rest of this week.
03:01For a full week ahead forecast, that'll be available on our YouTube channel by Monday afternoon.
