00:00Welcome to your afternoon weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Blue skies and lots of sunshine for England and Wales.
00:06It's not quite so clear-cut further north across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:11A line of cloud trying to push back in from the southwest.
00:15We've got high pressure behind me and high pressure out to the east.
00:19And with low pressure up to the north and the south,
00:21we're actually in the UK in what's called a bit of a cold.
00:25But the high pressure is going to win out and wring out that weather front eventually.
00:29But it's still there, providing some thicker cloud for Northern Ireland
00:33and central and southern Scotland the rest of the afternoon.
00:36A little bit of rain likely.
00:38Damp conditions across parts of Northern Ireland.
00:40A little bit getting in perhaps to the Glasgow area too.
00:43A few showers getting into the far north of Scotland also.
00:46But some sunny spells for Aberdeenshire.
00:48But the sunniest skies definitely further south.
00:50The far north of England may stay fairly cloudy.
00:53But for most of England and Wales, it is a cracking day if you like spring sunshine.
00:57It is a bit breezy.
00:58The breeze coming in from the east.
01:00That's pegging the temperatures back a little on these eastern coasts.
01:03And quite gusty conditions in the southwest of England too.
01:06The highest temperatures when we get an easterly wind, often in the west of Wales.
01:12And here we might squeak up to 21 degrees.
01:15Many places in the sunshine in the high teens across England and Wales.
01:19Further north of the cloudy skies.
01:21Obviously it's not quite so warm.
01:23How do those temperatures compare to the mid-month average?
01:26Well, well above five to seven degrees across England and Wales.
01:31It's not quite as warm further north.
01:32But even here, temperatures still generally three or four degrees above the average.
01:37That cloudier zone tends to move a little bit away from Northern Ireland.
01:41So we'll see some clearer skies here through the night.
01:44Staying quite cloudy across eastern Scotland.
01:46Increasing cloud across parts of northeast England too.
01:49And still a bit of drizzly rain on the east coast of Scotland.
01:53But clearer skies to the northwest.
01:55And light winds here allowing it to turn quite chilly.
01:57And will generally keep clear skies across the bulk of England and Wales through the night.
02:00Which will allow those temperatures to dip down well into single figures.
02:04Maybe not far off freezing in some rural spots.
02:07Certainly pockets of frost possible in the highlands of Scotland.
02:10As we go into Thursday, it's a similar story.
02:13I think we'll see more sunshine though tomorrow for Northern Ireland compared to today.
02:17And the cloud a bit thicker for parts of southeast Scotland.
02:21Could be a bit damp and drizzly in Edinburgh.
02:23And some of that light rain and drizzle just trickling across southeast Scotland.
02:27Maybe into northeast England.
02:28But generally, again, from the far north of England, southwards, it's looking like a cracking day with plenty of sunshine.
02:34Still a bit of a breeze along the south coast and in the southwest in particular.
02:39I don't think we'll see any showers in the northwest.
02:41So dry and sunny here.
02:43Also for Thursday, feeling pleasant.
02:4510 or 11 degrees further south.
02:47Well, again, temperatures above average but not quite as warm as today.
02:51More like 15, 16.
02:53We could pick up 17 or an 18 in one or two locations.
02:56And again, with that breeze, it'll be a little bit cooler along some coasts.
03:01And with a thicker cloud, temperatures much closer to average over central Scotland and northeast England.
03:07But it should be a bit warmer for Northern Ireland.
03:10So temperatures here, five degrees maybe above the average for the time of year.
03:15As we go into Thursday evening, not a great deal of change.
03:18We'll continue with that zone of thicker cloud affecting parts of central, southern Scotland and northeast England.
03:24Otherwise, largely clear skies.
03:25And high pressure continues to dominate even as we head through into the weekend.
03:29It does start to wobble away a little bit as we head into the weekend.
03:34And that will allow perhaps weather fronts to try and push in from the northwest.
03:38But generally, high pressure hanging on at least into the early part of next week
03:42when this weather front, this weather system may start to mix things up a little bit
03:46and potentially turn things a bit colder into next week.
03:49But that's a long way off.
03:50For more on that, you'll want to watch the 10-day trend with Aiden.
03:53That'll be available on our YouTube channel on Wednesday afternoon.
