00:00hey guys welcome back to new prices once again this is your host and today's

00:06video i'm going to be talking about an old anime called berserk

00:14a really big anime now the berserk anime itself it got blasphemized

00:21yep guys one of the greatest anime to have ever existed from the 90s may

00:27they come back or at least try to and feel spectacularly so let's talk about it

00:33now for me to get down and dissect this carcass properly first i'll have to do

00:39a quick recap on the original berserk anime from in the late 90s as this is a

00:47setup as a continuation to that okay so now the original berserk is basically a

00:55dark fantasy adventure about a band of mercenaries called the band of hawks led

01:02by a guy named griffith and how they worship her dominance becoming a huge power

01:11force and end up being like leading military men for a big ruler and then

01:20there's the aftermath of all that the problem with this berserk is that there

01:27was some character that would change or erase entirely from the manga and some of

01:33the most brutal scenes were omitted from the show to keep it from being longer than

01:40what they planned for which was about 25 episodes this led to the anime ending on a

01:47cliffhanger which left many people losing their minds as to what the fuck and how at the ending

01:57of the series because if you guys don't remember at the ending of the old berserk it starts off

02:06okay right and you know you're like you're going wrong with it for like the first 20 episodes

02:12by the time it reaches past episode 22 23 things get cuckoo crazy you know what is sort of like

02:24i would probably not say plot twist but it's the best way to describe it because it goes so bizarre

02:33in that direction now while a lot of this sounds like a big deal with the changes from the manga

02:41it really isn't because it's coming for it's common thing for a lot of anime adaptations to exclude bits

02:47and pieces of from the manga but story bits aside the quality of the animation itself

02:57was also pretty as it was like being a bit cheap or lowish you know even compared to other enemies from

03:08the 90s like dragon ball c and akira and other enemies that came out before years before berserk

03:18did in the 97 those enemies also had pretty good quality but putting those critiques aside

03:29the original berserk was still well received by viewers and fans alike and added new fans to the series

03:36in fact it was among the top rated anime for quite some time it had a cult following status with

03:43many people tuning up to its toe pass soundtrack

04:04so now that we're up to speed with the old berserk let's get into the crackers that it's the new one

04:13music we will be waiting for after like nearly two decades of anticipation

04:42and questioning reality of that bizarre plot twist ending from the first one this is what we get after

04:50all that waiting we get some video game cg looking cut scenes where the characters look all flat dull and

05:01emotionless blocks of images moving and no sense of direction or emotion or any sort of

05:11life into it it's like it was put together by some 10 year old using their parents computer i mean i can't

05:18really even get into this enough it feels like someone just they they looked at the 97 anime and

05:24just like and then they look at the manga and they was like i think we can portray the manga more better

05:31but instead they just sucked all the life out of it and they lamented the results and this is what you

05:41got you know this new berserk

05:44like seriously who's idiot idea was it to even go this route might you ask

05:53well i can't say for certain but for starters we can take a look at the production credits

06:01for this and which company was attached and making this abomination now this right here folks this logo

06:10right here you know this one because you see this logo attached to a lot of your favorite

06:17big blockbuster movies like jurassic world the fast franchise minions all in the u.s that's right

06:27a big multi-billionaire americanized hollywood studio was involved in getting this carcass made and

06:38distributed along with sony another american studio now don't get me wrong here i'm not insinuating

06:50that american studios don't know how to tackle popular enemies as has been done already with netflix

06:57for example picking up seven seats recent anime about a post-apocalyptic time setting and that just

07:07finished season two just in the past weeks or so and it's now going to its third season which should

07:15be set for next year hopefully so it's not like no american studios can do any anime justice or anything

07:27like that and universal if i want to be honest universal may not even be the culprit in this scenario

07:36as they were only listed as the license holder you know for distributing it and they wasn't

07:43actually credited in the producing of it but at the end of the day that doesn't mean they were innocent

07:49in this mess as we've seen in the past how bad hollywood has been at handling enemies

07:58particularly live actions which i am going to make a next video on that pretty soon

08:02so i'm willing to bet they had a say in how this played out at least now what makes this more

08:11frustrating is that some scenes in the show are actually in hand-run animation style so it leaves

08:19me thinking that they either try to do a mixture of both like half and half or it was some last minute

08:27change to make it look the way it ends up looking like seriously guys all they had to do was give us

08:36season two with updated animation and boom good like that like imagine berserk in attack on titan

08:49animation style you know when you look at attack on titan you see the fluidity and the color and the

08:59depth is sucked the art style in attack on titan you could have done that with berserk that's that's

09:07literally all you have to do just say you know what get the animators and directors from attack on titan

09:14seasons and attach them to the berserk you know let's do that and it was so simple you could have done

09:22that but no let's just fuck around it and make it like some sort of abomination now story-wise right

09:34because you know we're watching this for the story to see where it continues it seems fine from what i've

09:41been reading and hearing i didn't stick around to watch it out myself after like the first episode

09:49second episode i was basically cracked out of it i didn't i lost all interest in one to continuing

09:57because aside from the egregious and distracting animation style story-wise it takes a huge jump i

10:08remember mentioning the cliffhanger from the end of the first one ending on the cliffhanger it left you

10:15confused and like wanting more the second one it starts like they did this time jump so it's like

10:25like probably weeks or months after the events of the first one um where you you see he has the metal

10:36arm so it pushed you because in the ending of the first one he lost his hand his arm trying to escape

10:46and trying to save um the others so you know this takes place after that but like some while after that

10:56but my grab with that is i want to see how he got out of it like how did they manage to

11:05get out of that situation like i said i didn't really stick around to watch it you know i i clocked out

11:12after the first episode so all i can go off was what i saw and what i saw was him and this sort of like

11:22fairy thing he was hanging out with and then he was fighting these weird creatures in the forest

11:29it was all bizarre and what really hurt me is that they had this sort of like weird hyped up music in the

11:51like some sort of like angsty teenager music rather as opposed to like some sort of like mature i would

12:13say the top music that the first one had

12:29what are you doing just kill him already

12:43so it was really a bit annoying but based on what i've been seeing and reading

13:03the followers are saying the story continues as much as what you'd expect you know it's totally in

13:12a sort of flashback sort of sense where you would get scenes peppered in throughout the whole season

13:21that cuts back to what happened and how they got out eventually explaining and getting you catch up to

13:29where they currently are in the case of berserk with this anime when you end on a cliffhanger

13:38that is not really a good sign to start off your second year continuation in that format it is my

13:50my take on that and the craziest part about it is that you look at this anime and when you see

14:00some of the flashbacks they have they cut into

14:05the um the past or when you watch the intro to this anime and you you see there are snippets in the intro

14:14where they're actually using the hands-on animation style and it looks good you're basically watching

14:24the 97 berserk but with more updated more sharper drawings and colors i mean there are also more scenes

14:36that are mixed in you know some not half and a half but some here and there where you see

14:46hand-drawn traditional animation style and you can see the potential in there you can see potential that

14:56this could have been really good if they just kept it like that for the whole series instead of trying to

15:02this 3d gimmicky video game style animation which doesn't even look good by the way like to tell

15:14the truth i never really understand why these studios and these animators would even pick that sort of

15:21style for their anime for their tv shows i know it's it's not that where in fact it's a bit more common that

15:31you would think for example there's this animated batman series that came out a while back in fact

15:42around the same time as the berserk this berserk series came out and it had the same exact animation

15:51style but it was about like batman being a samurai and for me personally i think it looks

16:01shit now i will say batman the samurai batman animation their one looks more polished it looked

16:12like they had a better budget or a bigger team their one looked more polished than this one

16:18so my guess is this one they probably had some budget cuts otherwise if it was not that they had some

16:26pretty shitty animators hired to do that video game cgi animation for this can this be salvaged to tell you

16:39the truth guys honestly speaking i don't really think there's any way it can although i've been reading up more

16:46on it after the season two past there were talks about a season three now some people are trying to

16:52defend it saying you know the animation style if you can look past it it does tend to get a little bit

17:00better later on in the show in the series but you know at the same time i do want to be watching it

17:09you know waiting for it to start looking better like halfway into it when i started watching the

17:17the old berserk i was hooked by the second episode you know the first episode i was like

17:23hmm okay wait i'm waiting for the second episode and i start seeing more characters how it was playing

17:29out i got hooked on berserk and i stayed for the entirety of that in this second one

17:37this new berserk i mean i clocked out after the first episode you know i don't want to be like

17:45watching it half into it and then you know decide to accept it for what it is and you know just watch

17:53it out because it's bad it's distracting that's just basically me i've been looking at the readings

18:00and while it's definitely bad and it has dropped off quite a bit there's still quite a lot of people

18:07who actually enjoyed watching it for some reason you know and people who wanted to see the story

18:13continue and you know like for me personally i can't can't really relate to that because outside

18:20the intro you know from what i've heard it continues the story as what you expect right so if you're in

18:30it from a story standpoint you would be satisfied but if you're like me and you can't really if you

18:36can't really stomach it in then i just have to say you'll probably be better off reading the manga

18:44for this one that's a rare thing for me because when i go into these enemies i go into them with

18:51the expectation of watching them you know to see how good it is in itself it's very rare for me to

18:58actually go and read the manga for the story to be that disappointed in the enemy because i'm usually

19:05type of person that you know to watch all the anime in its entirety and if i like it that much i'll

19:12read the manga to get more of the lore that's the case with naruto and now to shippuden more recently

19:20but in this case with the serpent this is like the first time i can't say for myself how i'm reading

19:27the manga for the story itself because i can't really stomach this new wizard in the ways it's been

19:34executed yeah so that's all i'm gonna say so far i guess that pretty much sums up my video on berserk
