00:00Crawford is going to be right there, ready to trade blows with Canelo Alvarez.
00:03Why did you use that word war? Why are you feeling that way?
00:06If you go down the list and ask me about tactical advantages, most of them are Crawford.
00:12Crawford could see everything coming. He could see everything coming that Canelo threw at him.
00:16He was reading it so well. His guard was so tight as well when he was up at the ropes,
00:19when he was exiting, looking to move around.
00:21He looked about the same size, but that was a brilliant performance.
00:24And what can you say? I mean, you got to give him his credit.
00:26He created a lot of history. He dreamt this fight.
00:30He willed it to happen. People, a lot of people, not me, but a lot of people laughed at him,
00:34said, forget about it. No chance against a bigger guy like that.
00:36Stephen A. Smith reacted with powerful emotion to Canelo Alvarez's shocking loss against Terrence
00:42Bud Crawford. He explained that Crawford had been waiting for this moment for a very long time,
00:48not just for a win, but for a chance to secure his legacy once and for all.
00:54Smith stressed that Crawford didn't just beat Canelo. He took away his shine on the biggest stage.
01:00This was far more than another victory. For Crawford, it was the defining moment of his career.
01:06The night he proved he belongs among the sport's greatest champions.
01:09Four division world champion out of Omaha, Nebraska. He's undefeated 41-0 with 31 KOs.
01:20And he begged for this fight. He wanted Canelo bad because to him, it's all about legacy.
01:26I'm not speculating. I'm telling you what I know. And how would I know? It's because I interviewed him.
01:35Yesterday, we sat down. Here is my conversation with the one and only Terrence Crawford challenging
01:42Saul Canelo Alvarez, moving up two weight divisions to do it.
01:46Max Kellerman echoed that same sentiment, calling Crawford's performance both historic and career
01:52defining. Breaking down the fight with his usual sharp eye, Kellerman compared Crawford's challenge
01:58to moving up multiple divisions and willingly facing a dangerous opponent who could drag him into a brutal
02:03dogfight. According to Max, real champions embrace these kinds of risks without worrying about size,
02:10power or speed. And Crawford carried exactly that fearless mentality. He reminded fans that for
02:17years, no fighter openly called out Bud. But here, Crawford not only accepted the challenge,
02:23he owned it, showing the world why he is among the most respected names in boxing.
02:29Giving up the, or having to jump up two more weight classes and fight a guy who might put him in a dog
02:35fight, a real one for the first time in his career. When we get put in that position, we go find
02:41opposition to make that happen. You understand me? So when we go looking for the opposition,
02:46we're not concerned about how big they are, how fast they are, how strong they are. We feel like we
02:51got enough that we can bring to the table with anybody. That night I fought General Reese.
02:55I didn't care who was over there. Whatever, whoever they brought up that locker room was going to get
02:59it. You understand me? That's just what it was. And I think Bud kind of has that feeling.
03:03Now, Bud, you got to remember, has been around for a long time. Nobody called him out. You
03:09understand me? All the time, Floyd came at the boxing floor. I never said, I want Bud Crawford.
03:13No one ever said his name.
03:14Hey, all I know is one thing. Israel Masrimoff, he didn't get it. Apparently he lost.
03:18Yeah, but I was just there, but nobody called his name.
03:20Stevenson's admiration for Terrence Crawford has always been clear. But after watching him beat
03:25Canelo Alvarez so convincingly, his words carried even greater weight. Stevenson said Crawford
03:32delivered everything he promised before the fight, and more. He explained that since the start of his
03:38own career, he studied Crawford's style, discipline, and mentality. To Shakur, seeing his idol accomplish
03:44such a historic feat confirmed one thing. Greatness comes from years of preparation, consistency,
03:52and relentless focus. For him, Crawford is not only a champion in the ring, but also a mentor figure,
03:58someone who sets the standard of excellence that young fighters dream of, reaching.
04:04You know, sitting from an outbox, we did exactly what I called years ago, and tonight you put
04:10that, you know, burning the box out of the lid.
04:12Well, in the interview with him, you said, you know, you felt like going on a run watching
04:15that tonight. How much inspiration can you take from someone like Terrence?
04:18Uh, Terrence, um, I've been in a run since I was a kid, and just watching that greatness.
04:23Stephen A. Smith later reflected on Crawford's determination going into the Canelo fight.
04:30He explained that many fighters in Crawford's position would have asked for a catch weight
04:35or a lower division to make things easier. But Crawford refused. He wanted the challenge
04:40exactly as it was, at 168 pounds on Canelo's terms. For him, it wasn't about comfort. It was
04:47about legacy. Smith reminded viewers that Canelo Alvarez remains one of boxing's most decorated
04:53champions, a man with titles across multiple divisions. Yet Crawford never hesitated. He
05:00wanted to test himself in Canelo's world, at Canelo's weight, and prove that he belonged
05:05at the very top of the sport.
05:0731-0, Molly, with 31 knockouts. He's taking on all comers. I asked him, you're moving up
05:15in weight. Why would you not try to get Canelo to come down from 168 to 160 to meet you halfway
05:24since his last fight was at Crawford's last fight was at 154? Crawford said, I want what
05:29he has. I want to go take it. I don't want to make, you know, I don't want him making concessions
05:35and alterations. I'm coming to take what he has. And you look at him, and no one believes
05:42that he can't pull it off. He can box. He can punch. He's smart. He's elite. And he
05:49wants Canelo. He begged Canelo for this.
05:51Analyst Aiden Oladipo highlighted the dramatic shift in public opinion surrounding Crawford.
05:58Before the fight, critics dismissed him as too small, too old, and too far out of his comfort
06:04zone to beat a powerhouse like Canelo at 168. But after the fight, those same critics rushed to
06:10praise him, forgetting the doubt they had once cast. Oladipo stressed that Crawford deserved every
06:16bit of respect because he did it the hard way. Moving up in weight to face a dominant star like
06:21Canelo was no shortcut. It was a monumental risk. By winning so decisively, Crawford proved he is not
06:28limited by size or age, only defined by his skill, his heart, and his determination.
06:33Crawford did it again a few hours ago against Canelo. And what makes it even special or more special
06:40for Crawford is that he did it jumping up, as we know, a couple of weight classes. He did it
06:45against one of an all-time or another fellow all-time great. And he did it against someone
06:51who was undisputed and still a pound for pound top 10 guy. That's what Crawford did, people.
06:58So, you know, all those things people were saying in the lead up to this fight, you know,
07:03Canelo's going to be too strong. Canelo's too experienced. Crawford's going to be 38. All
07:08that. You have to remember all of that when you give Crawford his flowers. But don't, don't like,
07:14oh, well, you know, Canelo looked old. No, no, no, no, no. I don't want to, I don't want to hear
07:18any of that. I've started to see a few people on Twitter start to kind of sort of find excuses
07:23already. No, no, no. Remember everything you said, because Crawford deserves all of
07:28that. All of that. Crawford was incredible. Honestly, in the pocket, he was at times showing
07:37Canelo, no, no, I'm stronger than you. I'm going to bully you. Oh, you think you're going
07:41to get me in the clinch because you're Mr. 168? No, no, no. Look at the size of me. I'm
07:45jacked as well. I'm swole. And he was moving Canelo around. So by doing that, he got his
07:51respect. He didn't switch to orthodox once, stayed in the southpaw stance because he realized
07:56early, oh, Canelo don't like this. Canelo does not like this southpaw stance. Canelo's tripping
08:01over himself. I'm going to stay here. I'm not going to switch it. No, I like this work. I'm
08:06going to stay here. On the ropes, it's like, okay, come in, come in. Because you know, when you come
08:09in, you know, I've got that as well. And I can hurt you as well. Spinning off the ropes. His jab
08:14was fantastic. They put up the jab numbers. He was out jabbing Canelo like, it was almost like 10 to
08:20one, maybe even 20 to one. It was fantastic. And when he needed to land those power shots,
08:26he was landing those power shots. It was an incredible performance.
08:30The Wade concept analyst added an important perspective, shutting down the idea that
08:35Canelo's defeat was simply the result of decline. He reminded fans that Crawford is actually older
08:41than Canelo. So age cannot be used as an excuse. Not only that, Canelo entered the fight with size,
08:47power, and natural comfort at the weight class. Yet he was still beaten. According to WDE, this
08:54victory had nothing to do with Canelo being past his prime. It was about Crawford rising to an
09:00entirely new level. By removing the excuses, he made it clear. Crawford's win was authentic,
09:07undeniable, and truly historic.
09:10More tight, more fundamentally sound. While Canelo, even when he was able to get to range,
09:16which wasn't a lot, it wasn't often, he was having a hard time landing clean because everything was
09:21super wide and out here and to the body out there. And Crawford would either circle out to that same
09:27side to Canelo's lead hand side. He would circle away because Canelo would step straight to Crawford
09:32and chase him and not necessarily cut him off. And even when he threw that hook, I was looking for the
09:39hook from Canelo right hand as he stepped through, right? Corral with the lead hand, bang the right hand
09:44because you're fighting a southpaw. So yeah, your jab may not be as effective in landing and managing
09:50distance and all those things, even though for Terrence, it kind of was. For Canelo, I was expecting
09:54a lot more of that right hand down the middle and over the top and him jabbing his way, faint jab right
10:00hand, and then that lead hook that I thought he would be able to corral Crawford because Crawford did
10:04want to move away from Canelo. He did. He wanted to move away from that power hand, smart to do.
10:09Canelo never took that extra step to step outside of Crawford's lead foot. Again, that orthodox
10:13southpaw matchup, it's always going to be a battle of that lead foot. He never took that next step to
10:19get outside of that lead foot and then step through Crawford, step to his left where Crawford was going
10:25and land his right hand. He just felt like he was falling off to his right with his right hand. And
10:29once he fell off to his right, after he threw the right hand, there was no follow-ups because he was
10:33off balance and Crawford was out the gate and circling back to reset the action. This was a masterful
10:39display from Terrence Crawford. And again, I looked at this fight and I don't want to do the thing
10:44where I said, oh, you know, Canelo's washed. He's over the top. He's old. Terrence Crawford's older
10:50than Canelo. Is he as weathered as far as fights are concerned? No, but you can only do one thing when
10:57talking about this fight and that is give credit to Terrence Crawford. If you want to say Canelo
11:01looked old, that's fine. That's on you. I'm not going to say that.
11:04Former champion Carl Froak analyzed Crawford's brilliant tactical adjustment in the middle
11:09rounds. Froak explained that by the sixth and seventh rounds, Crawford realized he had to press
11:15forward and seize control. His jab became the weapon that changed everything, breaking Canelo's
11:20rhythm and forcing him backward. Froak praised Crawford's ring IQ, highlighting how he knew exactly
11:26when to shift gears. Instead of letting the fight drift, he made the conscious decision to take charge,
11:31and that shift gave him complete control of the momentum.
11:35...punches on the back foot, sort of dictating the pace. And then after about round six or seven,
11:40Canelo Alvarez knew, he knew, one second. I need a little freshener. Canelo knew he had to step on
11:47the gas. He knew he had to put, he needed to put the fight on his front foot and take it to Terrence
11:52Crawford and start to try and catch him and bang him on. And when he headbutted Crawford, I thought that
11:56could be the start of it. A little bit of a nut, get that down. Yeah, I don't know if there was a cut,
11:59but the referee stopped and had a look, and I thought, now Canelo's going to step on the gas.
12:04And he did that. He stepped on the gas, he started getting in close, and he started landing a few
12:08more shots than he was in the previous rounds. But it wasn't enough. Terrence Crawford was able
12:12to catch and counter. He was landing a sneaky uppercut from the southpaw stance. He was dominating
12:17behind his jab, and then when Canelo stuck it on him, he was dominating up close in the pocket.
12:23He was beating him at his own game. Canelo Alvarez must have been fuming in there. He must have
12:27thought to himself, what can I do? He couldn't do anything. He needed to pick up the pace,
12:32put the pressure on, and sustain the attacks. And I don't want to take anything away from
12:36Terrence Crawford, but Canelo Alvarez couldn't do that. He couldn't do it for long enough.
12:40Crawford looked like he could have done 20 rounds in there tonight, at that pace,
12:43the way he was dictating and controlling. And Canelo Alvarez was getting marked up,
12:46he was breathing heavy, he was getting tired, he was reaching with shots, and he was getting
12:50torn apart. It was an absolute masterclass by Terrence Crawford. Canelo tried. Canelo came,
12:56he had a go, but to be honest, I don't want to rain on the parade, rain on the parade of
13:00Crawford. But Canelo Alvarez, for me, is well past his best now. He's seen better days. He hasn't
13:06got the pace, he hasn't got the fitness to sustain the attack. Afterwards, in the interview,
13:11he said, I felt great, it's great, I feel good. And don't forget, Crawford's a couple of years
13:14older. So I think it's the miles on the clock. Canelo Alvarez had like 67 fights. I know
13:20Crawford's had a fair few fights, but he's about 20 fights behind him. So the miles on the clock
13:24have caught up with Canelo Alvarez. He's feeling the pace, he's feeling the age.
13:28And that's all for today's video. If you enjoyed this breakdown, don't forget to like,
