00:00Hey guys, welcome back to Interpices. Once again, this is your host Danny here.

00:07In today's video, I'm going to be reviewing yet another anime.

00:14Another one.

00:15And to this video, in part of my underrated anime segment, I'm going to be talking about another anime.

00:26Another one.

00:26Yeah, that's right guys, and then we'll talk about another anime.

00:30Another one.

00:31No, seriously, that is the name of the anime itself. It's called Another, which is pretty funny and pretty interesting actually when you think about it.

00:42But anyways, this anime, it's actually pretty interesting when you think about it.

00:49It's basically a sort of like, the simplest way I can put it is it's an anime-esque version of the Final Destination films.

01:06I don't know if you guys remember the Final Destination series, where this thing happens and all this group of people, they just die.

01:18And such at, like, whatever weird moments and weird circumstances, they don't see it coming, they just happen.

01:27But this movie has quite a bit of that actually.

01:31But it does it in a very interesting way, in terms of the actual plot it has.

01:39This has actually had a pretty bizarre old plot to explain all of the weird supernatural-ish stuff.

01:48It starts off very slow-ish, it's not like the other traditional animes that I have reviewed or talked about on this channel so far.

01:58I'd say it's in a melodramatic kind of sense.

02:02It takes it very slow for the first episode, it builds up on the mystery around the characters and what's going on.

02:12And so it's just very interesting, I like that aspect where the main character wakes up and he's like, he's not really sure, he can't remember what's going on.

02:22You're basically in his shoes.

02:25What he sees, you're finding it out with him.

02:28So it gives you sort of a more immersive experience when you see it from that perspective.

02:35It stops off like that and you're trying to see stuff and he's saying, okay, what is going on, who are these characters, what are they doing in the school, what's going to happen.

02:50Coming on to the middle way into the anime, because it's like 12-13 episodes, by the time it's midway into it, trying to figure out exactly what is going on.

03:00I don't know, you have a fairly firm idea on what's going on when you see certain characters are dying.

03:06For some weird random reason, this girl, she ran down the stairs, she tripped and she fell and her umbrella fell out and she literally impales her neck and is like, oh god, what the fuck.

03:19And then you have this other one with this guy, he's talking with the main characters outside and he has a hat on but all of a sudden, he just got, ooh, the hat attack and he's dropping dead on the spot.

03:32It's pretty bizarre, but you tend to figure it out as it goes on.

03:39I'd say in the second half of the anime, where, you know, the revelations are made in terms of the characters, the main characters, the supporting characters, it picks up, it gets really interesting, right?

03:51Um, it also sort of like, takes a dip, but not too much to the point where it like, diminishes the overall anime, like outside, watching, is this a zombie season 1 and season 2, like that sort of sense.

04:11Um, it just sort of like, loses that whole, you know, mysterious vibe that it got going for it, as it, you tend to figure out the whole flooding and the story behind the whole situation that's going on at the school and all these students.

04:31But in the second half, they figure out what they gotta do to solve the problems they have, right?

04:36They have to like, basically, go to this, chip, school chip.

04:43And I would say, it handles it pretty well with the characters.

04:47There's some fairly decent level of character development, some pretty good moments of the characters interacting with each other.

04:55It takes its time.

04:57Um, it's down to like, the final two or three episodes where it gets amped up from, to a hundred full blasts.

05:08And it's like, super crazy, where you're like, oh, whoa, whoa, okay, so, looks like, like, we're really getting to the meat of this.

05:19In a way, it felt like it was rushing it, like, this was probably going to get, like, I don't know, maybe 16 seasons and it get reduced to 12 and that just rush out the, um, the last third in the anime.

05:35That's what it felt like, because some of it felt like it was coming too fast in the second half, going on to the final third.

05:46You got some revelations about the main character and the supporting character and what ended up happening and how it relates to the problem that they've been in.

06:00Because the main problem has to do with the number of kids in the, the certain specific classroom that's, that seems to be cursed.

06:14It's like, they have to have, I think it's 20 or they have like 19, like a specific number of students and if a student comes in and the number is, like, it's uneven, it's like these bad things happening.

06:28But you get the revelations at the end as to what is going on and I will see.

06:37In the, the final act, the final third, the anime really does felt like, gets kind of stupid in the same way, because you see, the girl who's with the main character, right, the girl with the arm,

06:53the eye patch on, she's an X-Men character who is being chased after, she doesn't really even fight back at all.

07:04She basically has this guy simping for her in a sense, where he's trying to protect her and she's not even doing anything to protect herself, she's just, you know, so annoying, she's not really fighting much.

07:16It felt more annoying than making me feel more like, wait for the character, because I was like, this girl is literally running behind you, trying to like, get you and you're just, like, just walking away or whatever.

07:31It was pretty funny, I will say, on my side note, the animation quality in this is spectacular.

07:43You know, it has some pretty realistic backgrounds, it also has some pretty legit looking scenery, and the artwork for the characters, the way they're drawn, it's, they're drawn pretty well.

08:03Everything looks good in this anime, which I find really impressive, because the anime is, it's a fairly dated anime, it's from 2011, 2012-ish, you know, I'm not saying that animes from back then didn't look like this,

08:21but the majority of the anime, but the majority of the anime that I have recall seen from back in the early 2010, 11-ish days, did not have this level of detailed quality to them, even some of the anime that coming out now doesn't look this good, so I will give it that, it looks pretty good, everything that you're seeing, the animation quality is top notch,

08:47and, you know, nearly a decade later, basically, it, it's holding up, from, in terms of how it looks.

08:55The soundtrack for the anime, especially with the intro, um, the intro sounds more like something that you would hear in a disaster-like sort of scenario.

09:17For me, it felt like it didn't fit the anime, the intro music, the outro music, though, that works pretty well, especially with the, the scenery for the, for the outro of each episode.

09:47I felt that is a pretty good, um, add-in to go with the soundtracks.

10:12It has a very different vibe to it, like, in a way, like, if you're watching an actual drama series, not, instead of an anime, the way that, how some of the scenes are framed, and how some of the shots play out, it's, it plays out very slowly, there's not a lot of, like, super, um, crazy stuff going on, a lot of fast-paced cuts, or anything like that.

10:39It takes its time, it takes its time, and it's very, slow building, which is very refreshing.

10:47But, yeah, but, yeah, but, back to the story, um, I would say, it's sort of a double-edged sword with these type of stories, because, you have this sort of, like, mystery, sort of, like, theme to it, in the first half, where, or, basically, the first two-thirds, where you're trying to figure what's going on, you know, and you're seeing it through the character's perspective.

11:14What, what the main character's finding out, you're, begin to find out, as it goes along.

11:20The atmosphere you get from the mystery, it's really, very cool, to dwell in, or in the second half, when you begin to figure out what's going on, going into the final third, and you're realizing, oh, okay.

11:35As you get the revelations, and you get to understand what the story is going on, what it's about, you lose that, that mystery aspect to it, and that suspense aspect, because, you know, you have the knowledge of what's going on, and then you have an idea of what to expect.

11:53Well, I won't say it's a big fault in the anime, because this is something that's happened, constantly, in, um, many different areas, like, whether or not if you're watching anime, games, or movies.

12:07Um, they all have this problem, you know, where it's in mystery, and then you get the second half, whatever, of it, you get the story and everything, and such.

12:20I won't take it too much for that.

12:22What I will say, though, is that this has been categorized as a horror is...

12:26Not really a fair assumption to make.

12:35The first half is on the horror side, I will give it that, but in the second half, it's more on a drama suspense-ish, I would say more soap opera-ish, even.

12:51It's more suspense than horror, although there is the, the, the, the gory imagery, but they call the characters getting killed off, so, that's where it gets its horror description from.

13:07You also have the, the music for it.

13:10The music for this anime is, is very good, um, it has some pretty good moments, you know, when it's, you know, the first episode was mischievous.

13:20The, it really creates a, atmosphere and ambience to it.

13:26When, in the second half, where you have, you know, the meat of the story kicking in, it, it reminded me a lot of, listening to Hans Zimmer's soundtrack for Inception.

13:39When I was hearing the music towards the second half and the final two, because I was thinking to myself, hmm, this sounds very familiar to me.

13:50Um, I don't know if, if the composer for the show, he, if he's a mentor of him, or if he just decided to borrow and remix his tracks for this.

14:01I don't know, but it, there's a, there's a, very strangely, close resemblance between the themes.

14:08With all that, I'd say, it manages to, overcome its, downsides enough to make it, an overall great anime.

14:18It also has a pretty, I'd say, fairly satisfying ending, in my opinion.

14:27Um, if you've, if you guys have watched the Final Destinations, you usually get a fair idea of how these types of stories end.

14:36These types of stories end, even though this one does have a more story-driven aspect to it, I also noticed that, in the ending, they saw, like, set it up where, the characters here, they, end up placing their own stuff out there, leaving it for the next generation to come in.

14:57Cause, the whole, um, problem that they're in with, this, one class that's cursed, apparently, it's a generational thing.

15:06Cause, when they're looking back in the history, to find out, more information about the class, and, the characters, and the number of students, you realize that, uh, I don't know, that was being done to set up, like, a season two or season three, where they have, this, in the future, with,

15:25a next group of students, um, I wouldn't be surprised, but, given how long this anime has came out, and it's only, like, one season, I've been trying to think that, that was probably a stare to, you know, for a future reference or something.

15:46It's looking, it's looking like it's not going to actually get a season two, or at least not anytime soon, from what I'm seeing.

15:52Um, I also noticed, by the time I finished watching this anime, I had this strange sense of, deja vu, almost as if I, ended up, watching this, before.

16:06I don't know, why, but, it just, got that feeling, somehow, while watching it, um, after watching the anime, it felt like, for a moment, I felt like, have I seen this before?

16:21Because I was thinking to myself, you know, with the anime being, like, out since 2012, it's nearly a decade old, I was, trying to convince myself, whether or not, if I actually, had seen it before.

16:35Which is pretty weird, because I don't recall, watching, or hearing about this anime, before, until recently.

16:41Maybe, maybe it has to do, probably the way the anime was, set up, and how it plays out, I don't know.

16:50Now, with that being said, I'm over, I'm gonna, sum it up, another anime.

16:56Another one!

16:57This is a, fairly good anime, it does, has some shortcomings, mostly in terms of, how it's, storytelling is paced out, but it's nothing too, drastic, or too, that serious, to derail your, enjoyment from this anime.

17:17Um, if you're not really into the, sort of, like, horror-ish, themed anime, with, gore and suspense, you, this might not be the anime for you, if you do like that, you're definitely gonna, take this anime.

17:32It, it, doesn't really follow, any of the, character cliches, from what I can see.

17:39Yes, none of the, sunderies, none of the, senpais, none of the, no character shows, that we've, become accustomed to watching, in, these, big, enemies, that have, been dominating the, the, social media nowadays.

17:57So, that's very refreshing to see.

18:00It, it, has pretty good animation, it has some decent soundtrack, and such.

18:07Yeah, so, it's definitely worth, recommending.
