00:00hey guys welcome back to inner prizes once again this is your host and in today's video

00:08i'm actually gonna be talking about a forgotten well somewhat forgotten series from the one and

00:19the only stephen king right you know the guy who's the most famous for all those scary stories that

00:27you've been writing for the past 30 to 40 years although most people would claim that his books

00:35are more sad than scary it's just that the movies you know a lot of hollywood producers

00:44they'd look at it and they think huh this could make a pretty scary movie and that's how you get

00:52the reputation but yeah today i'm gonna be talking about the lancolius all right now there's a good

01:01chance most of you guys watching this video probably don't even know this existed um at some point i

01:12questioned whether or not that this was even real it's really weird because i do remember

01:18i remember from my way back in like 2009 10 ish you know pre-social media era before i was like

01:29on the internet normal i remember watching this as it was on tv it was basically two two episode series

01:39that was like three hours in total length i couldn't remember watching it back when it came out

01:48it was a old series it was like from the 90s around the same time as the it series came out just about

01:59a couple years after except it was in a much cheaper budget recently i found it on youtube

02:08and decide to watch it back again and i had to say it's really interesting actually the whole prospect of

02:17re-watching something like this after like basically a decade it was like refreshing in the sense that it

02:27was a whole different experience from what i'm used to in terms of watching like horror or

02:37drama mystery movies and tv shows basically the langolias take place in a setting where you have

02:49a plane that's set to go to boston it enters this sort of time whip at this point in time

03:00and then it lands in a alternate reality now the whole interesting prospect of this is that

03:11how it portrays time and how it portrays like different realities and such it was really interesting

03:22i remember watching it back in the day there were bits and pieces i can remember in a glimpse of my

03:32head as if they were like part of a dream which is pretty weird and then afterwards you know coming

03:42back to it and watching it re-watching it after all these years i started to realize something it's not

03:49exactly as how i remember it because i've been three hours long and actually seen it again

03:58i realized it actually was quite slow you know given the fact that it's a two-part series and it's from

04:08the 90s you know it was like before jump scares was a thing you know like nowadays jump scares are like

04:17the thing in hollywood horror movies this was basically for the most part this was mostly a mystery you

04:29know um the whole first two hours is basically this group of people about 10 people they come off the plane

04:40and then they try to figure out okay how am i going to be able to get back what's going on

04:47you know you're with them and you're sort of like trying to understand what's going on as well

04:54they're on this plane and then they come off but they come off in a different airport where there's

05:03nobody there there are passengers on the plane that are missing so this group of 10 people they have to

05:09try to figure out what is going on and how can we get back to where we supposed to go

05:17now you have these different characters you get to see a different perspective among them you have a

05:25blind girl who has like an enhanced sense of hearing as you know she relies on the hearing to

05:35visualize stuff more she is the first one who tends to pick up on some of the stuff in the surrounding

05:42so it's it's not normal where they are how the atmosphere is different and how she starts hearing

05:53these weird noises of something that's far away but it's coming closer and eventually as a show go on

06:03you tend to realize wait those are the langolias but the interesting about thing about this how they did

06:12it is that for the first two hours even like for the first two and a half hours actually you don't actually

06:24see the langolias you don't see the monster the enemy you just hear them you hear them coming from you

06:35know far off in and from the forest area and you see the cameras cut to that position and you just hear that

06:47weird sound it just tells you that they're coming and that you know the protagonist and the group of

06:58characters they are running out of time right they have like this super time where they have to try and

07:04get out of there and figure out like how are they going to actually go back in a sense it's not it's no

07:11longer really about this sort of like crazy scary monster that you're trying to you know like not

07:22get scared but it's actually about this sort of story that's a waste against time and you know if the

07:30characters are gonna make it if they'll actually be able to make it back alive because they are some

07:37really interesting these choices you see that happens throughout the show you know and several

07:44characters who don't make it um including the blind girl you know spoiler alert now the biggest

07:55thoughts i can see to this show you know after watching it is the run time it's three hours long

08:03you're probably gonna have to watch this in two parts because that's the way it was intended it was a

08:10two-part series just like the it's series when it first came out in 1990

08:18and you know a lot of stuff that happens it's really slow paced you know it doesn't have any like fast cuts

08:27or anything like that it's a it's like one of the definitions of a 90s tv show if you ever watch

08:36any show from the 90s this fits perfectly into that it's slow paced it doesn't rush anything it takes

08:45it time setting up good stuff and laying out the stuff as a mystery you know we try to figure out

08:53stuff like what's going on like eventually you start to realize okay now it's really the last half an hour

09:09or so where this anime really where this show really picks up you know where you actually see the

09:19langolius come out and you're like really you become really terrified assuming if you're scared

09:28by it but you become really worried because you want these guys who are trying to get out you hope

09:35that they actually get out of there and make it out alive and the interesting thing with this show

09:43it wasn't just about escaping the langolius because in the show the langolius are represented as

09:53these sort of time keepers you know they're not really just there just to eat people they're there

10:00to destroy that reality in the way that it's a reality from the past when you think about it

10:11what the characters in the show he saw like piecing together the whole scenario as it goes along

10:19they're trying to figure it out and he does magic figure it out he talks about how these langolius

10:27do this destroying the past and if they don't get out of there in time they will be stuck in the past and

10:37destroy all of their stuff from the langolius which is a pretty interesting way because it sort of like

10:46it sort of like raises a perspective on how we view time like you know a lot of people a lot of us

10:55we go about our lives as if it's like whatever you know we don't really pay attention to time unless if

11:02there's like something that you might be late for outside of that you don't really pay attention to

11:08the time so i really like the way how it portrayed all of that and how it took its time doing that as

11:15well so it's really interesting to see you know how the whole series played out another thing that i also

11:23want to mention to is the ending itself because after they escaped in the third act from the langolius

11:34this could have easily ended after that but it decided to continue on for another 10 or 15 or so minutes

11:46and it actually takes its time wrapping up which is something i really admire you know in the case

11:54with a lot of um shows or movies that you might watch today they usually tend to just like gloss over

12:05stuff by the ending you know they just wrap it up after the third act they just get right to it you know

12:11they don't really take their time to set it off on a neat give it a nice closure so that's what i really

12:22like that the show did here you see characters they come back and then they they realize wait a minute

12:31they're actually in the future not in the present so they realize that they have to wait

12:38and then you know they have to wait on the person to catch up to them they're like minutes ahead

12:46and you see how the show sort of like visualizes that the time traveler which is captured

12:54and it looks really beautiful actually which is sort of weird in a sense you know i was watching and

13:01never expected to see something beautiful from the show but i saw it and it was like really interesting

13:12and then it ends with a pause film which is a very 90s thing that you would expect so yeah overall

13:22i would say the lancolius it's a masterpiece actually in fact it's a i would give it a nine

13:36solid nine you know overall i will say this isn't exactly a review in a sense because um

13:45it's more of a sort of me detailing how i experienced watching the show because i saw it as a kid

13:58growing up i just rewatched it recently so i there's sort of a bias towards me from watching this so this

14:07is more of my experience rather than my review i just decided to just give it a rating and if you guys

14:14want to know where i stand on it because given the stuff i said earlier it's very easy to nitpick

14:23the show you know it's it's very long it's very slow paced but also those are things that actually

14:30makes it all for the better in terms of how it's executed the story but yeah overall i would say

14:38the lancolius it's a masterpiece in fact it's a forgotten masterpiece of the past and i would say

14:52we need more movies and shows to be like this but that's just my opinion so let me know what you guys
