00:00hey guys welcome back in the past once again this is your host and again in
00:04today's video we'll be doing it another movie review now this is one of the
00:12all-time goods here you have this guy Jake LaModa who's a real guy by the way
00:18did this movie Rage and Bullet it's based on real people in the 1940s 50s so it's
00:25not a fictional story like the Rocky movies it's a hundred percent actual real
00:32probably exaggerated some stuff here and there you know they're more interesting
00:36plot like all the other biopics does right but this is basically a biopic and
00:42it's a goddamn good one too okay so the movie starts with the main guy Jake
00:49Lamora he's shadow boxing in the ring and showing you the credits very great
00:55scene you know for it to introduce the movie right to start it off then you get
01:00into the first scene where you have the MC this Jake LaModa he's this fat
01:07obserky looking guy in a room smoking his side and some stuff to himself and then it
01:13cuts back to the 1940s where you get the main highlights where this is where the
01:18boxing matches happens and some top-tier shit okay here this is even more the
01:25better direction than taxi driver but you've seen all technical stuff in
01:30display of these boxing matches however he loses the match and his brother Joey
01:38tries to give him some favors to the mafia again in which he he refuses right you see
01:45him after this he goes and he links up with 18 at the pool you know leading to have
01:51now fit cheating on his wife you know movies going through all of these moments right in
01:57his life and then you get back into the match he has a next match with the
02:03legendary sugar Robinson and he ends up beating beating him in that match to
02:10leading up to a rematch card and this is where it gets really interesting Jay he
02:16dominates him in the rematch as usual right same stick but he ends again
02:22declared the loser by the judges leading to brother Joey accused him of being like
02:28unfair you know giving like bias to the other guy and such so yeah all that
02:37controversy starts going on you know the boxing matches yeah it cuts back to his
02:42relationship right you see me actually marry Vicky and from here after their
02:50marriage it basically goes downhill for Jake and friends okay this is where the
02:57real shit starts to hit the fan you see Jake becomes more unhinged during the
03:03relationship accusing her of infidelity like cheating on him to the point where
03:08he's borderline paranoid but he's like almost every day she has an interaction with
03:15it sucks to him and she's going off on her like every time she interacts with a guy
03:21and you know like this man whatever and he's just just going off to every time she
03:27basically has an interaction with a guy it's really toxic and sad to watch because
03:31it's literally domestic abuse on this one you even see his brother Joey also gets
03:37caught up in this as well all right it gets to the extent where he ends up
03:43beating up on one of their friend Salvi blaming him for wanting Vicky Vicky to
03:50leave their relationship right this kind of leads to a brawl outside of the
03:55building in a very comical one too but um yeah it's pretty fucked up but then you
04:03know the movie cuts back to the boxing matches right he proceeds to have another
04:07match with Billy Fox but decides to throw the match halfway in leading to him
04:13getting suspended although it gets sort of sought out later as he goes on to
04:17beating Marcel for the middleweight title right so it's sort of like a set
04:23picnic it's going on the matches now at this point you're thinking he's probably
04:28gonna give himself back on track right but no this was just a short hurdle the
04:36downfall is straight ahead because shortly after this he goes and he
04:42confronts Joey with his bro about the brawl he had with Salva over Vicky and this is
04:50probably a heck of the movie in my opinion
04:52that was no big thing anyway I smacked him in the mouth he was drunk he started some shit
04:56had to go downtown straighten it all out with Tommy it's all forgotten about
04:59supposedly anyway
05:01how come you never told me about it
05:03nothing have anything to do with you
05:06had nothing to do with me
05:08no
05:09who'd have something to do with
05:11Vicky
05:12hey Jack
05:13I just explained the whole thing to you didn't I
05:15yeah
05:16it was between me and Salvi
05:17if it had anything to do with you and Vicky I would have told you about it
05:20Jake starts accusing Joey of banning his wife
05:25leading to a very sad but quite humorous exchange between the two
05:31in a way that only Dineo and Pesky can pull off
05:36you let this girl ruin your life look at you she really did some job on you know how fucking nuts you are
05:42look what she did to you
05:43you fucked my wife
05:44what
05:45you fucked my wife
05:46seriously this is like the highlight of the movie
05:52but following his humorous exchange about Jake
05:57he goes full on hinge right he starts attacking Vicky
06:02accusing her of cheating on him with his brother
06:05then attacking Joey at his home in front of his family
06:09man going full buzzer and it's pretty much over for him at this point
06:14cause he eventually loses all of this right
06:18he loses his title to Sugar Ray after leading to retirement
06:23then Vicky divorces him taking the kids and everything
06:26leaves him
06:27and for the icing on the cake of downhill
06:32he ends up getting arrested for introducing underage girls to guys in the club
06:39like I don't know how do you end up screwing up that badly
06:44to the point where you couldn't even like have the audacity to ask these girls for an ID card
06:49or something
06:50but apparently he did
06:51and he goes to jail for a bit
06:53and this is where probably the movie starts to struggle a bit in my opinion
06:57okay right getting to the ending here
06:59I mean it's not that the ending is bad per se
07:02it just doesn't keep the momentum as the first two acts which were incredible in comparison
07:07but nonetheless you know the film sort of it starts a wrap up right with him going to jail then
07:14he gets out and he tries to make amends with the people and such
07:19and then he starts doing these shows right
07:22so cause he doesn't do boxing anymore so he's doing like stand up routines at these places
07:28and you know in the end it's just him getting ready to do another show at the backstage
07:35so it's not really much of an ending per se
07:39it sort of falls into a similar issue with taxi driver
07:43cause I remember in my review for taxi driver
07:46in that movie
07:49it had an ending that felt a bit too much of like a perfect ending
07:53and it didn't really make sense with what was going on in the movie to me
07:57here it's almost the polar opposite right
08:00it's not even really an ending it just wraps up and it just ends
08:05which I guess it's probably part of the course since it's like a biopic
08:09you know it's not meant to have like a good, bad or perfect ending sort of scenario
08:15it's just telling you the life of this guy
08:21I have to say this though this is a one of a kind level performance from Robert De Niro
08:26he literally carried this movie on his shoulders
08:30along with Joe Pesky, Caddy Moradio
08:33obviously these guys have proved great in their own right
08:36especially Joe Pesky and even Caddy as well
08:39they did very good
08:41but the main one here is Robert De Niro
08:43like he went through the window for this movie
08:46right
08:47and I'm not going to leave out their supporting cast
08:52because the supporting cast is good too
08:54but it's really these three actors who are the main standouts in this movie
08:59really and truly
09:01now when it comes to the directing
09:06just like I said earlier in my review
09:08it's better direction than Taxi Driver
09:13has better cinematography than Taxi Driver
09:16you know
09:17even though it is fully in black and white
09:20you can still see the quality on display here
09:23because this is a big budget movie right
09:25like this movie had like 10 times the budget of Taxi Driver
09:29when it came out
09:31and it was like considered a huge deal at the time
09:34right
09:36but it was in black and white
09:38so
09:40you know
09:41it gives it a more older feel
09:43and
09:44there's only one scene that's actually in colour
09:46and that's
09:47like
09:48they're showing like clips of him
09:50and his wife
09:51during the marriage
09:52and you know the kids
09:54that
09:55is like sort of like a highlight video scene
09:57and
09:59that's the only bit where it
10:01is in colour
10:03and
10:04it's incredible
10:06like the cinematography
10:07the directing
10:08even the soundtrack
10:10all of the stuff is
10:11pitch perfect here
10:13that Mansour says here
10:15and these guys who work on this movie
10:16they really really nail this movie
10:19yeah
10:20top down
10:21technically
10:22but
10:23except for one
10:24that I noticed at
10:26the beginning
10:28um
10:29you know when this happened
10:30in the boxing match
10:31at the beginning
10:33they show you
10:34the guys fighting
10:35and
10:36you know the courts that are going crazy
10:37and stuff
10:38and such
10:39in that scene
10:41I noticed there was some obvious ADR
10:44like certain sounds
10:47voices that you hear the characters make
10:50in the amp scene
10:52you can
10:53that was obviously inserted
10:55like it wasn't
10:56natural
10:58now in their defense
10:59I will admit
11:00that this movie was made in 1980
11:03right
11:04it was infinitely more harder
11:06to edit a movie back then
11:08because there was no computers
11:10no editing
11:11dark
11:12you know timeline
11:13where you could splice things together on
11:15and cut them out straight down to a T
11:17like this was made back when they actually had to
11:20take scissors and cut the film wheel and the sound
11:25and just splice them together
11:27like physically do that
11:29so I won't fault them for like you know some of the stuff
11:33not really being like a hundred percent in sync with the audio and editing
11:38I won't fault them for that
11:40but I just point it out because it's something that stood out to me
11:44while watching the movie
11:45so I'm just really pointing it out here
11:47but other than that
11:49other than that
11:51one thing I noticed
11:52this movie is basically technically perfect
11:55and with the storyline it's
11:59almost perfect right
12:01aside from like how it ended
12:03this movie was
12:05damn near perfect
12:07so
12:09overall to sum this up
12:11I give Ray Jumbo a
12:139.7
12:15out of 10
12:16right it's perfect
12:18it's the same rating I give as tax cheaper
12:20but
12:21it's perfect
12:22you know it's
12:23it does great acting direct and everything
12:26it's just
12:27that's like
12:28stuff I pointed out
12:29but other than that
12:30this is like
12:31about as good as you can get for a man's success
12:34this is peak Robert De Niro guys
12:37and I would recommend this to anyone that's interested in watching a
12:41film
12:43not just like anything but like watching a film
12:47alright guys
12:48so there and that pretty much sums up my review overall for
12:52Ray Jumbo guys
12:54perfect cinematic experience
12:56definitely worth watching
12:58definitely worth recommending
13:00be sure to check it out
