29 September - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there.
00:01It's a relatively quiet start to the week, but it's not going to last more than a couple
00:05of days.
00:06Some really quite impactful weather, likely from Wednesday onwards.
00:10For the time being, however, high pressure extends across much of the country, albeit
00:14not all of the country.
00:15Low pressure system bringing some fronts will affect the north and northwest of Scotland
00:20into parts of Northern Ireland.
00:21The cloud tending to thicken here through the day.
00:25Even as far south as parts of Wales and the southwest will see this medium and high-level
00:29cloud arrive.
00:30A few spots of rain for north Wales.
00:32But for the Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast, after the fog patch is clear, it's a bright
00:38enough afternoon with sunny spells, patchy cloud and feeling pleasantly warm with light winds
00:4318 or 19 celsius possible.
00:46Not so calm towards the northwest where it is going to be a blustery afternoon.
00:51Western and northern Scotland exposed spots seeing gale force winds and those outbreaks
00:56of rain, although the rain tending to be light and on and off across much of Scotland.
01:01Even an odd spot of rain will push into the east of Scotland and northwest England through
01:05the day.
01:06Then drier at first overnight, but as the night continues we'll see thickening of the cloud
01:11once again and outbreaks of rain into the parts of northern and western Scotland and Northern
01:15Ireland.
01:16Further south and east, clear spells.
01:18And with, again, light winds, temperatures will fall away into the mid to high single figures
01:23fairly widely through the Midlands, east and southern England with a few fog patches forming
01:28once again.
01:29And after that fresh start, with those fog patches continuing until mid-morning, plenty
01:35of sunshine actually for the south of England into the Midlands, eastern England.
01:39And some sunny spells as well for eastern Scotland and feeling pleasantly warm here with the winds
01:44warming up as they travel over higher parts to the south and west.
01:49But we're going to see those outbreaks of rain continuing for central and western Scotland
01:53through the day, Northern Ireland as well.
01:55Again, on and off mostly light rain, even the odd spot for parts of Wales towards the end
02:00of the afternoon.
02:01Cloud tending to thicken, but always the brightest weather once again in the south and east with
02:07temperatures, a degree or so up compared with Mondays, 19 or possibly 20 Celsius.
02:12And again, high teens possible in the northeast of Scotland.
02:16But then it all changes.
02:18Into Tuesday night, we'll see more persistent and heavier rain arrive into Northern Ireland,
02:23pushing its way into western Scotland as well.
02:26And this is the start of a very wet spell midweek for western Scotland in particular, because
02:32we're just going to see this trail of weather fronts pushing again and again into the northwest
02:38of the UK.
02:39Isobars tightening and this long fetch of very moist air coming in from the southwest, dumping
02:45an awful lot of rainfall into western and southwestern Scotland in particular.
02:50So we're concerned about that.
02:51Wednesday into Thursday in particular, increasingly breezy in the north and west as well.
02:57Spells of rain then start to move in from the west across the whole of the UK late in the
03:03week and through the weekend, it's also going to stay very unsettled.
