00:02Hi there, a classic bright spells and showers sort of day for much of the UK, but especially
00:07for England and Wales where of course we need the rain most and it's across England and
00:12Wales where the most lively showers are going to be moving south and south eastwards during
00:16Thursday.
00:17Low pressure to the north east and so we've got this cool north to north westerly airflow
00:21across the UK.
00:22The showers will be organised along these old occluded fronts to give you an idea of
00:27the variable nature of the showers expected on Thursday.
00:31Here's the 24 hour rain accumulations throughout the day and you can see some darker blues indicating
00:3725mm or more, perhaps up to close to 50mm in places, but focused across northern England,
00:44parts of north and west Wales and through the Bristol Channel area.
00:48Some areas though mostly not getting much and Scotland, northern Ireland, northern England
00:55and fewer showers over the far north of England I should say because the showers are moving
00:59south through parts of Cheshire into Yorkshire and then into Wales and the Midlands, East
01:05Anglia by the afternoon.
01:07There'll still be showers elsewhere and they'll be interspersed by bright spells.
01:13Where the showers do occur they're likely to be heavy and give, like I say, 10-20mm in
01:19a short space of time hail and thunder as well.
01:22The brisk breeze will make it feel cool and especially so in the north with temperatures
01:28only in the mid-teens.
01:30Further south, 21-23 Celsius, not far from average, although a touch below in quite a few
01:37spots.
01:38The showers continue for a time through the evening.
01:41They're going to be moving their way south-eastwards.
01:43And later in the night, after the sun goes down, the focus for showers turns to Irish
01:49sea-coastal areas where again there'll be some heavy downpours with hail and thunder.
01:54Fewer showers then as a result across central parts of the UK, clear spells developing.
02:00Still a brisk breeze from the north, that's going to make it feel cool, if not chilly
02:04in places overnight.
02:06Some sheltered spots across northern England, Scotland could dip into the low single figures.
02:11More widely, just about remaining in the double figures or the teens in the south.
02:18And here's an idea of the rainfall distribution on Friday.
02:20Fewer showers all in all and some places not getting any at all.
02:25But there will be some around the east coast and more especially parts of Wales in the south-west.
02:30That's where the most frequent and heavy downpours will be.
02:32In fact, we start off with those showers across Wales, south-west England, a few for Northern
02:37Ireland.
02:38And further showers pushing into eastern Scotland and eastern England through the day.
02:42In between central and western Scotland, parts of the Midlands, central southern England,
02:48mostly dry, patchy cloud but some sunshine.
02:52However, widely, temperatures are going to be below average.
02:55A couple of degrees lower than Thursday and a few degrees below the seasonal average.
02:59So, mid-teens in the north, only just about up to 20 or 21 Celsius in the south and south
03:07-east.
03:07That's not something we've experienced much of this summer so far.
03:11So, a welcome change for many, I suspect.
03:13And some welcome rain, albeit of the highly variable variety, not affecting everyone of
03:20course.
03:21There will be fewer showers this weekend.
03:23High pressure returns.
03:24But only briefly, the weather is expected to turn more widely unsettled from next Tuesday.
03:30There's more on that in the 10-day trend, which of course you can find on our YouTube
03:32channel.
03:33Bye-bye.
