28 November - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there, a windy day for many of us this Friday with some heavy showers, particularly
00:06for northwestern parts of the UK. That's where the strongest winds are on the southern flank
00:11of this area of low pressure moving to the north of Scotland and various occluded fronts
00:15wrapped around that will provide a focus for showers or longer spells of rain and it is
00:20north and west Scotland where we'll see the strongest winds and the wettest weather with
00:24these systems moving through. Now the heavy showers across northwest Scotland will move
00:29into parts of northwest Northern Ireland through Friday afternoon and there will be scattered
00:34showers elsewhere, again organised in bands associated with old occluded fronts. But in
00:39between these bands of showers there will be some drier and brighter spells, some decent
00:44blue skies coming through. 13 Celsius in the south, although tempered by a blustery breeze,
00:50colder further north and cold enough for some flakes of snow over the Scottish mountains as
00:54these systems move through. One band of rain pushing into Northern Ireland and southern
00:59Scotland through the evening whilst another band of rain moves up from the southwest to bring
01:03some wet weather to Wales, the southwest and then eventually showery rain heads into parts
01:09of the Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast. So the southern third of the UK, a wet night.
01:14Clearer and colder further north, the frost for Northern Scotland as we start off the weekend,
01:19but beautiful sunny skies here, albeit with some showers into the far north of Scotland. In between
01:25for Northern Ireland, much of England, Wales and southern Scotland, we've got these bands of rain
01:29moving through. The wettest weather transferring east through Saturday and wind strengthening down the
01:35north sea coast later on. That's going to make it feel quite cold wherever you are with the wet weather
01:40and the strong winds replaced by showers into the west later. But Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:45yes it will be feeling cold through the day on Saturday, but mostly dry eventually with sunny spells,
01:51albeit with these outbreaks of rain and strong winds into the east of Scotland as we go into Saturday
01:57evening as the low pools away. That's going to bring a spell of wet and windy weather down the coast
02:02of the North Sea. And across the rest of the UK, we've got higher pressure moving in, a ridge of
02:07high pressure to bring a mostly fine day on Sunday, albeit with a frosty start for many of us
02:13and a cold feel through the day. That's before the next low pressure moves in on Monday and that's
02:19likely to bring some very wet weather to places, particularly towards the south of the UK.
