00:00A Bel Air and California Performance Transmission.
00:09Now there's a 24 karat match made in the southern sector of the Golden State.
00:14It's a rapidly aging Chevy Bel Air that's currently stuck in reverse,
00:18but thanks to the gang here at our transmission headquarters,
00:20it's going into overdraft.
00:22And this is definitely going to be a Bel Air that lives up to its title,
00:25Rebuilt Royally, here where the owner gets tricked and the car gets tricked out.
00:28The pranks are always over the top, but the mark is always over at the moon.
00:32Where else? Over here at Overhaul.
00:42That's right.
00:58Hey, I'm Courtney.
01:01I'm Chris.
01:02And the guy who's going to be in a heavy daze for the next seven days is Glenn,
01:06the owner of a bummed out 62 Bel Air, a bucket of bolts we borrowed
01:10thanks to this crafty accomplice.
01:12She's our insider, Glenn's wife Jennifer.
01:14And as we work with Jen, we're going to turn Glenn's 62 Bel Air from old and boring
01:19into bold and roaring in just one red hot week.
01:21So there's the couple.
01:23She's cluing us in.
01:24He's just playing clueless.
01:25So now that we have them and the Bel Air on our side,
01:28let's go get that car!
01:29The way we're retrieving the 62 Bel Air from Glenn
01:32is going to be a little different this time around
01:34because Glenn watches Overhauling, so he might recognize Chris and I.
01:37Instead, we brought in the big gun.
01:39We brought in Ira from Hot Rod Magazine.
01:42He's the publisher.
01:43I'm going to be playing the assistant casting director for Hollywood Picture Movie Cars.
01:48We planted a flyer on Glenn's car saying that we were interested in using his vintage vehicle in a music video shoot.
01:54He took the bait and is now waiting for Ira to show up and take a look at his car.
01:59Hi, Glenn. Ira Gabriel from Hollywood Picture Movie Cars. How are you?
02:03Good. How are you doing?
02:04Good. So this is, uh, this is it.
02:07A little damage, got some oxidation.
02:09Let me take some photos of the car if you don't mind.
02:11We could probably place it.
02:13I mean, we were hoping for something probably a little bit better conditioned.
02:15Another probably 10 years of probably getting a lot better.
02:18So this is definitely going to be in your, uh, your possession for a long time.
02:21You plan to make this a keeper?
02:22Yeah.
02:23And what kind of plans do you have for this?
02:25Well, when I get time, you know, just paint the interior.
02:29What color are you looking to paint this?
02:31I've always liked these cars, the black ones with like the red interior.
02:34This is, uh, just a standard agreement.
02:37We're going to use it for about, uh, probably three, four days.
02:39Okay.
02:40We'll get it back to you by, uh, definitely the end of the week.
02:42Okay.
02:43Oh, here comes my truck right now.
02:45So far, it's working out great.
02:47Glenn is totally buying into all of this.
02:52But we have to say we were a little rattled when a Chevy wouldn't start.
02:56Already, it's clear that this is going to be one big overhaul.
02:59Okay, there was a brief scare, but we've got the car.
03:08Now it's time to get it over to California Performance Transmission.
03:11And now that we've got Glenn's Bel Air, let's meet the A-Team who's going to turn this old 62 into a modern day stunner.
03:24Transmission legend, our car, is our host here at California Performance.
03:29Chris Bassett drives in from Cars Incorporated.
03:32Jeff Binder is an engine master, now gearing out with our crazy crew.
03:37It's hard to hate Jeremy Hayter, a lover of that age-old craft of fabrication.
03:41Craig Watts is a working firefighter when he's not cooking up cars at Dominator Hot Rod in Brentwood, California.
03:47Brian Homan is also from Dominator.
03:50Papa Jim is a fabricator and a technician, all the way in from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
03:55And Team Captain Chip Foose is here at our car shop to put the art into the car,
03:59designing a look so we can bust loose with our build.
04:02All right, A-Team, are you ready to see your canvas?
04:05Yeah!
04:06They might be ready, but is the car ready for them?
04:09The 62 Bel Air evolved from the more elaborate and elegant Bel Airs of the 1950s.
04:20But underneath the simple exterior, there was a pack of power in some models.
04:24The Bel Airs of the early 60s arrived just when the muscle car wars were gearing up and racing out.
04:29This particular model is no powerhouse.
04:32Glenn now has a standard 62.
04:34Of course, once this overhauling is over, the car is going to be anything but standard.
04:38It's now time for the Bel Air to get poked, prodded, and peaked at.
04:43Glenn, how do you mow your lawn now?
04:46Because you took your lawn mower engine out of this and put it in your car.
04:49So what, do you hand mow the lawn now?
04:51Well, first, we've got to get all the body panels and everything lined up,
04:54and fix the gaps, especially on the trunk.
04:57Oh, there we go.
04:58Oh!
04:59Oh!
05:00Oh!
05:01Oh!
05:02Oh!
05:03Oh!
05:04We found something here.
05:07Mr. Glenn, thank you for your special care, your thoughtful ways, and your dedication to my son.
05:13Justin will miss you dearly.
05:14Good luck with your twins.
05:15God has blessed you with much affection.
05:17You know, it's nice to know that Glenn is such a good person, deserving of this transformed 62 belly.
05:23Okay, it's time to divvy up the damage.
05:28Body mods.
05:29Chip.
05:30Chip.
05:31Can you want to do bumpers again?
05:35Yay!
05:36Bumpers!
05:37Our dean of design determines direction and delegates duties.
05:41Who's designing this beast, anyway?
05:43That's Courtney.
05:44Is everybody psyched?
05:45Yeah!
05:46You guys, come on!
05:47Yeah!
05:48You guys, come on!
05:49I was so weak!
05:50Is everybody psyched?
05:51Woo!
05:52All right, you guys are all fired.
05:54Chris says they're fired, but fired up is more like it.
06:00Taking to this bel air like wildfire pouncing on its prey.
06:04A lot of these bolts are really hard to get to, so it's hard to get these things off.
06:19Tight squeeze under here.
06:21Well, the rear bumper was considerably easier than the front bumper.
06:25The front bumper had probably about literally 20 bolts attaching it to the frame.
06:29We're carefully removing the trim in case it can't be replaced.
06:32Rear window's out, windshield's coming out.
06:35We're making some serious progress here.
06:43Glenn's wife Jennifer, along with their twins, stopped by to check out the state of the car.
06:48Wow.
06:49It's cool.
06:50Why is this car so special to Glenn?
06:52That it was his brother's, but as time has gone by, he's just really kind of fallen in love with it.
06:57Tell us a little bit about your husband's personality.
06:59He always seems to be making time for everybody but him.
07:02And so I just think it'd be great if something basically was, you know, done for him.
07:07So he works with mentally handicapped children.
07:09He's a preschool teacher for kids with disabilities.
07:12Awesome.
07:13Yeah, the kids just love him.
07:14Soon the twins want a closer look as they meet some of the team.
07:17Yay!
07:18This is going to be great. I'm really excited.
07:22Well, we got the drive shaft out and now we are going to pull the motor out.
07:28Our car said we're good to go.
07:31Yeah, come on, buddy.
07:37Special delivery from Guaranteed Chevrolet.
07:45It's a GM Performance Crate Special that is going to put 330 horsepower into Glenn's presently gutted-out 62.
07:524 o'clock on day one. I'm sitting here in the vacant engine compartment.
07:56The entire car has been gutted. Motor and tranny are out.
07:59Chip's doing a little work on one of the rear quarter panels.
08:01And this thing is going to the sandblaster.
08:04It's going to get a blast to the past.
08:06A stripping that will tell us more about the mangled history of this ride.
08:13Time to check in with our always hip Chip to see what's what with the design.
08:19When Ira pulled off our heist prank, he did a great job when he set out to get info from Glenn,
08:24asking our mark what he wanted to do with his 62 Bel Air.
08:31And it looks like Chip's in the mood to explore the color scheme that Glenn mentioned.
08:40But then again, you never know the foops.
08:43He might be in another mood altogether.
08:46So what's your mood for the 62 Bel Air?
08:48Traditional. Family tradition right here.
08:51And Glenn is going to be styling.
08:56It's 9 o'clock on day one.
08:58The blasting is over, and a new work shift is starting.
09:02It's back to California Performance Transmission, where the secrets of the car will be both revealed and reworked.
09:09Well, this quarter panel's been replaced, and it's been replaced very badly.
09:14We've got a few holes we need to fill for the emblems.
09:18We're shaving the door handles and the locks, the rear trunk lock.
09:22We've got some new fill pieces that we need to cut out and weld in.
09:25Just get to work, so that way there we can get it done, try and get the body out there.
09:31It's already darn late, but the whole team gets to work on all the holes in the body.
09:35And holy moly, there are a whole lot of holes here.
09:45Coming up, our insiders can't believe what they see.
09:49Where did everything go?
09:50On day one here at Overhawn, we got our hands onto and into Glenn's 62 Chevy Bel Air.
10:07And as we get our hands on day two, we have a lot more to tackle, and quickly.
10:11Losing time is something we just can't do, because days from now, we're going to be looking for all the spare slack we can get.
10:16Hello?
10:18Chris, playing the role of John McDermott, calls Glenn to lay the groundwork for our upcoming pranks.
10:23Hollywood picture movie cars?
10:25Yeah. When was I going to get the car back?
10:27Oh, what did we say? We said four days, right?
10:30Uh-huh.
10:31It's possible Friday, if you're going to be around Friday.
10:34Cool.
10:35Okay. Well, I'm going to send this check out today.
10:37Cool. Thanks a lot, man.
10:38Okay. Bye, Glenn.
10:39Bye.
10:40Another one bites of dust. Another one bites of dust.
10:46Chris takes a hammer to the front suspension, knocking away years of accumulated crud.
10:51Like so.
10:53All that goes on as Courtney and Brian tackle the southern side of the ride.
10:59There you go.
11:01Prepping for paint means reshaping a lot of bent metal and being on patrol for rust repair.
11:07And at the moment, one area is proving to be particularly problematic. The trunk.
11:13So how jacked up is this trunk, anyway?
11:16Uh, pretty jacked up. It's been hit a couple times.
11:18Okay.
11:19So it just kind of put everything out of alignment.
11:21But it's kind of hard to get this really aligned because everything else is so far off.
11:25It doesn't, it closes to about there and then you got to like really pull on it to get it going.
11:31And as we all know, there's nothing Foose loves more than a good bumper tuck tightening the fit to the body of the car.
11:43The last time Jennifer saw Glenn's car, well, it was different.
11:46Oh my gosh.
11:47Actually, you know, Jennifer, because you have two beautiful little boys, we've got something extra special for you that's going into the car that's going to be part of our Hot Rod family theme.
11:56So come over here and check it out.
11:57Okay.
11:58Okay.
11:59Wow.
12:00Look at that.
12:01That is so awesome.
12:02Yay.
12:03Yay.
12:04Got five of the seats.
12:05That's so cool.
12:06Yeah.
12:07And it's soon time for Jennifer and little Glenn to get a better view at the work in progress.
12:11Look underneath.
12:12Oh my goodness.
12:14Where did everything go?
12:16Oh.
12:17Later that day, Jeff and Papa Jim take the engine over to be painted at the shop of the one and only Mitch Lanzini.
12:25At the shop, the team works late to separate the frame and the chassis so they can send them out first thing in the morning.
12:35I can't even describe how excited he'll be.
12:37This is just incredible.
12:39I think you guys are miracle workers, so I know you'll get it done.
12:42It's 2.30 in the morning, day three.
12:44We just separated the body from the chassis.
12:47Brian and I are stripping the frame so that Keith can be here at 7.30.
12:51He's going to take it back to Specialized, powder coat it.
12:54The body will go to Lanzini's, get the paint started.
12:57And I'm hoping that by the end of day five, we'll have everything back and start assembly.
13:06Hey.
13:07All right.
13:08We're back to Lanzini's paint shop.
13:09The car's inside getting primed and ready to go into the paint booth.
13:12Let's go see what the progress is.
13:16Everyone is working hard, grinding and sanding to make this body as smooth as possible.
13:23She broke.
13:25What are we doing here?
13:27Putting some icing on the cake.
13:29Because this rear quarter panel was so chewed up and we didn't discover that until we got the car taken apart.
13:34So we're having to use a little surface enhancer.
13:37We're going to get that on there all nice and smooth.
13:38Sand it down.
13:40Get it in the primer.
13:41Get it into the paint booth.
13:42But hopefully late this afternoon.
13:44Definitely by the seat.
13:49All right.
13:50It's afternoon of day three and we are in the booth here at Lanzini Body Works.
13:53This, of course, is our new engine.
13:55Now Mitch, you got a paint scheme worked out for this bad boy?
13:57Everything that's not masked up will be red.
13:59Mitch quickly gets to work with the initial layer of primer for the engine, the tranny, and the other parts.
14:05And after many layers of assorted primers, it's time to mix up the red.
14:10And with a few coats of red, the engine is starting to look both hot and cool at the exact same time.
14:19We got the freshly powder coated chassis in the back of Kelly's truck here.
14:23We're going to unload it, bring it into the shop, start hooking stuff up to it.
14:27The frame gets carried into the shop for the next round of hard work.
14:37Looks like it's time for Shane and Chris to steer into the task of taking on the steering.
14:41And while that goes on, Scott and Aaron from Hotchkiss Suspension bond on with this build.
14:46The sway bar is going to eliminate the roll in the car.
14:49So when you go around turns, it stiffens that up.
14:52So it turns this big tuna boat into a fast driving Corvette.
14:58Glenn, you're getting the new of the new as far as our training arms go.
15:02Soon, work is almost completed on the control arm.
15:04And it's starting to look like a once beaten Bel Air just might make it back into this big world after all.
15:09Okay, cool.
15:10Meanwhile, Chris checks in with Glenn, letting out more lines to continue to string him along.
15:19Hey Glenn, it's John McDermott.
15:21We finished up with your car today.
15:22Okay.
15:23And so we're actually going to get it back to you today.
15:25My guys are on the road right now.
15:27Okay.
15:28So they should be dropping it off at your house probably, I'd say by 6 o'clock the latest.
15:32Okay, I'll be there.
15:33Little does he know though, he won't be getting his car back later on today.
15:36It'll be, oh, I'd say about four more days.
15:39Yeah, baby.
15:41Lanzini did an awesome job getting the paint done.
15:44We're headed back over to our car's place, start putting it together.
15:55Back at California Performance Transmission, the Tranny goes straight for a very special dyno.
16:02What we've got here is a dynamometer that is built just to test transmissions.
16:19All right, light up time.
16:29Looks good.
16:30All the pressure to ride, all the shift points are in exactly the right place.
16:34So it's good to go.
16:36With Art giving us the okay, it's time to gather our many fire engine red pieces and put it all together.
16:42One of the first steps, hooking up the tranny to the engine.
16:48And before long, it all starts to make its way over to the frame.
16:51We got the engine in.
16:52We'll be able to spin tomorrow and dial everything in, get the distributor carburetor on, and I'm going home.
17:07Well, one guy who isn't going home is Mitch Lanzini, gearing it all up as the body is ready to be primed.
17:16Just getting ready to put the first coat on the body.
17:18I've already got two coats on just about all the rest of the sheet metal, the front clip and the doors, and we're looking pretty good.
17:24This first coat of primer will help the team spot imperfections on the body.
17:31After that, the crew can fill and sand one last time before the paint goes on.
17:35Coming up, the car isn't the only thing getting a finish as black as ink.
17:57On days two and three of overhauling Glenn's 62 Chevy, our insider stopped by with two mini-insiders to check out the banged-up Bel Air,
18:04which is in need of some straightening, some strengthening, and most of all, some strong and strenuous strategy.
18:10And now as day four begins, we've reached a pivotal midway mark where the car can end up looking like Bel Air or resembling something more along the lines of, let's say, Hell Air.
18:25We're listening to the messages that Glenn has left us the last couple of days because we've been leaving them hanging.
18:30Listen to this one, though. This is a good one.
18:33Todd, this is Glenn. I'm the guy with the 62. I've called you numerous times.
18:37I'm getting kind of frustrated, to be honest with you.
18:40If I don't hear back from you tomorrow, I mean, do I assume my car has been stolen or what?
18:45I mean, so, if I don't hear back from you tomorrow, I'm just going to call the cops or something.
18:50I hope it doesn't come to that.
18:51This is a good one, too.
18:52You are a hard guy to get a hold of, man. You know, I'm just, I'm just kind of worried.
18:57I think we'd let him stew long enough.
19:01Hey, is this Glenn?
19:02Yeah, this is Glenn.
19:03Hey, it's John McDermott over at Hollywood Picture Movie Cars.
19:05How's it going?
19:06Good, man. I'm real, real sorry about what's going on here.
19:09Yeah, well, what's kind of going on?
19:11Well, this is, this is the deal. I left a message for the tow truck guys, but apparently since you don't have your car, they didn't, they weren't able to drop the car off.
19:19You know, but I did tell you originally that we may have to keep it until Monday.
19:24Yeah, that, that was cool that you said that, but you guys, you also told me that my car would be to me at six o'clock.
19:30If you guys needed to keep my car till Wednesday or next Friday or whatever, it's just when you tell me my car is going to be somewhere, that, that's the only thing I got frustrated with.
19:39Well, I can totally understand that. There's no reason to get the cops involved.
19:42I didn't, I mean, you never know. I mean, you hear about scams going on. I mean, for all I know, I could have been scammed, you know what I mean?
19:48This is definitely not a scam. I mean, you got the check that we sent you, right?
19:51Yeah, I know.
19:52So you, you know, it's not a scam then. Yeah.
19:54You never know. I mean, I mean, what would you do?
19:56No, I, I completely understand and I, and I sympathize with you.
19:59I mean, I know my car is not a showpiece, but I mean, I do, and I do like it. It has some sentimental value.
20:05Right. Anyway, I'll get your car back to you today.
20:07Okay. Thank you.
20:08Okay. Bye.
20:09Bye.
20:14Over at Lanzini's, the primer's been sprayed and sanded. So now it's time to lay down some black.
20:19I'm mixing up some black right now to shoot the first coat of black base on the body and the hood.
20:24Tonight is a special night. The car isn't the only thing that's about to get painted.
20:29I asked Chip the other night if he would design me a custom tattoo of a car that we're building.
20:35And he agreed to it. So I called my tattoo artist, Jeff Everett.
20:42Back with Mitch, the first coat of black makes it through the gun.
20:46That goes down as Chip's design is transferred under Brian's leg.
20:50Both of these talented artists work into and through the night.
21:154.30 a.m., day five. We just got done with my tattoo.
21:18The doors open at Lanzini's now that the paint has dried.
21:29The car looks gorgeous.
21:34Glenn's Bel Air is loaded up and on its way. Brand new paint job and all.
21:38Looks good so far.
21:49Hope we don't screw it up getting it off the truck.
21:53It's time to reintroduce the made-over body with the made-over chassis.
21:57What I like to do is get it on the ground then, roll this out of here.
22:01Okay.
22:02Bring the body in. We'll lift the body up, roll this underneath and then drop it down on there.
22:06No problem. Okay.
22:07With a lot of heavy moving on deck, the team attacks the plan that will bring those big pieces together.
22:12Okay, I'll watch this. All right. You hold on to both.
22:15We've got to go a little to the left.
22:19We'll do it.
22:20Hold it, Jeff.
22:21One, two, three.
22:22Yeah, baby.
22:23Hey, guys.
22:24Yeah, baby.
22:25Yeah, baby.
22:26All right.
22:27All right.
22:28All right.
22:29All right.
22:30All right.
22:31All right.
22:32All right.
22:33All right.
22:34All right.
22:35All right.
22:36Sid and Kathy from Winner's Circle make busy with the shine gear, polishing up a plan to
22:53put in the tall hours.
22:55They're probably going to stay through the night. They're color sand polishing the body.
23:01We'll have all these other pieces that we can start bringing over tomorrow.
23:04The body is already on the chassis, and we're making things happen.
23:12Coming up, Glenn gets his car back. Sort of, kind of like.
23:28On days four and five of the overhaul and build, we kept right on building.
23:31And in honor of our progress, Chris has something he'd like to say.
23:34Thank you, Courtney.
23:36There once was a man from Nantucket whose car was so thrashed he said, Chuck it.
23:41So then we set loose a young genius named Foose, and now his ride doesn't look like a bucket.
23:46All right.
23:47That's cute and all, but it's day six, and we have to finish Glenn's car.
23:50Let's go.
23:51All right, so the heart is back in the Bel Air, and the car is slowly coming to life again.
23:57And day six is going to be all about installing the car's zinc wiring harness and piecing the body back together.
24:03I'm here with the three stooges.
24:09Do you want a groove thing?
24:10All right, here's the plan.
24:11Make this clunker of a Bel Air look a little like Glenn's old mess, all in the name of our very next prank.
24:17I don't know, I got to go get a patch for in there, I think, and then it'll be done.
24:34What we've got here is a typical case of right and wrong.
24:37As we continue making Glenn's 62 Bel Air right, the wrong car is being dropped off at his house right now in a prank.
24:44All right, we're in the back of the camera van right now.
24:49We're going to cross the street from Glenn's house.
24:51All right, so we're going to have Captain and the tow truck driver roll the prank car into position right now.
24:58We got two cameras on him.
25:01His VW van just rolled by in the camera shot.
25:04Here he comes.
25:06His wife's already told him that the car's messed up.
25:09And now he's going back inside, I assume, to call the movie car.
25:17Here comes his wife's coming out now, too.
25:19Jennifer's explaining to him what's going on right now.
25:22Glenn looks the car over even more, giving new meaning to the word puzzles.
25:31All right, they just went back inside, so I assume this phone's going to be ringing in about 45 seconds.
25:48Picture cars.
25:49Yeah, this is Glenn.
25:51Oh, hey, Glenn, it's John.
25:52Hi, how's it going?
25:53It's going good, how are you?
25:54Terrible.
25:55What's going on?
25:56They dropped off the wrong car.
25:59I'm not following you.
26:01Okay, well, here, let me speak slowly so you can follow me.
26:04They dropped off the wrong car.
26:06I think that's pretty easy to understand.
26:08They dropped off some pile of crap in the front of my house.
26:13Well, see, I mean, obviously what happened was they grabbed the wrong car out of here because we had about ten cars.
26:19That's fine.
26:20Well, I want to find out where mine's at.
26:22All right.
26:23I've been, I think I know what happened here.
26:25Obviously, we had a couple Bel Airs and obviously they grabbed the wrong one out of here.
26:29So what I'm going to do is I'm going to call the guys in the tow truck and I'll have them come right back over there and pick this one up.
26:34Thanks.
26:35Okay.
26:36Okay, bye.
26:37All right.
26:38Well, Glenn's pissed off.
26:40That's an understatement.
26:42Do you guys deal with these guys a lot?
26:49Because I'm the guy whose car that they lost.
26:53Occasionally, we just went to the lot and picked up what they told us.
26:57Do they make mistakes on a regular basis?
27:00Uh, no.
27:01This isn't your car?
27:02No.
27:03All right.
27:04Well, we're going to check out these pictures of Glenn, learn a little bit about his personality.
27:15He's definitely a family man.
27:17Every single one of these pictures, Glenn is with his children.
27:21Well, they didn't have a camera before they had the kids.
27:24He's a happy dude.
27:26Glenn's always smiling.
27:27And he's really going to be smiling two days from now when he gets his brand new 62 ballet.
27:42Very nice.
27:45Ray Miller and his team show off their rad red reupholstery rush order from Cars Inc.
27:50Remember how that went underneath that wire?
27:51We just finished up the front seats.
27:52We put on all our chrome doodads and dyed all our old stuff to match the new covers.
28:05Chip basically wanted to go with more of a stock look, like original.
28:09Looks just like 62 right off the factory floor.
28:12Looks good.
28:13Chip and Ray work on a unique design for the Simpson baby racing seats.
28:19Just in the top.
28:20Okay.
28:21The three stripes with the three rectangles in there.
28:24These cool baby seats are going to match the rest of the 62 stock interior.
28:31Okay, we just finished one cover.
28:33Still working on the other one, but this is the difference between the two.
28:37All right, it's evening six and we came a long way today.
28:40The Bel Air is finally in the air, so Adam from Magnaflow can install the very complicated
28:44exhaust system.
28:45And as we look upon day seven, it's going to be all about interior installation and those
28:49finishing touches.
28:50Well, it's the morning of day seven and I'm all finished with the exhaust.
28:55It was a long night, but it finally got finished.
28:58All four mufflers are in and the reason for that is because this is going to be a family
29:01car.
29:02Family cars need to be nice and mellow.
29:04You know, you don't want to hear a loud exhaust sound.
29:06You want to be able to hear your kids in the back screaming and yelling.
29:09Good morning overhauling.
29:12Five o'clock in the morning, day seven.
29:15I think we're looking real good.
29:17Got a few things we got to get.
29:19I'm going to make a list in a few minutes, make sure we get done everything we need to
29:22have complete today.
29:24And then we're done tomorrow.
29:28When we come back, we've got one testy engine on our hands.
29:39On day six here at Overhauling, we got busy about getting busy.
29:48And now that we're in the home stretch, we know there's no time to go home or even stretch.
29:53And now as day seven comes to life, it's all about clock watching, making with the long
29:58hours that will get this project done, dazzling, and delivered.
30:03All right, Glenn, we've come a long way since day one when you had a plastic container rigged
30:10as the overflow bottle.
30:12And now we have this new container for you that's going to be sitting on the side of the
30:15radiator that's going to take care of all them problems.
30:18Now, when are we thinking we're going to crank this bad boy?
30:24We will probably crank it sometime this afternoon.
30:27What hour are we thinking?
30:30About the hundred and sixtieth.
30:32Jeff, are we thinking that this is going to fire on the first try?
30:35No, we know it's going to fire on the first try.
30:37It's all good, Glenn.
30:38It's all for you.
30:40It's all good.
30:41Except for the mood Glenn was in when he left me this recent message.
30:44Next message.
30:46John, this is Glenn with the 62 Chevy.
30:49Where's my car?
30:51You know, I am so frustrated right now.
30:53You know, I don't even know what the deal is.
30:55I mean, this is totally ridiculous.
30:57I want to get your address so I can come down to your lot and get my car personally.
31:00I don't even need it to be towed.
31:01I don't care where it's at.
31:02I just want to get this over with.
31:03All right.
31:04Thanks.
31:05Whoa.
31:10Ray.
31:11Yeah.
31:12How about a little interior update?
31:14We're putting in the custom molded carpet.
31:17We're getting it going.
31:18We're going to put the back half of the carpet in and then we're going to put the back seat in.
31:22Interior looks awesome.
31:27One custom baby car seat.
31:30You having?
31:31We still got to get the glass all installed and get the door panels on, get the side trim on.
31:46Okay.
31:47I don't want to be left at the very end going, oh no, and rushing.
31:51It's usually the case.
31:52It is for the upholstered.
31:53All right, the Bel Air's got this hot red headliner, hot red carpeting, hot red dash,
31:58even a hot red motor up front, and then these cool custom Simpson car seats for the kids.
32:03Gavin and Glenn, it might be about 14 years before you two move from these seats to the driver's seat,
32:08but I assure you this Bel Air will still be the coolest one around.
32:15Ryan, you've been heating it up for hours over here.
32:18Yes, I have.
32:19I think it's about time to go blow off some steam.
32:21Yeah?
32:22Around here, these guys even customize their little rides.
32:24All right, enough playing.
32:38It's time to tackle that problematic trunk.
32:46And don't forget all those quarter panel problems that have now been cited and solved.
32:50We are just about ready to test fire.
32:52We can't wait anymore.
32:53We've got to know if this thing runs.
32:57We're finally about to fire this bad boy.
32:59The three wise men think it's going to happen on the first try.
33:02Let's see what happens.
33:05Are they wise men or wise guys?
33:08Because they're hitting start and we're getting nada.
33:11I got nothing.
33:12Hold on, that doesn't count.
33:13Okay, okay.
33:14It's time to assess the situation.
33:17We are temporarily hooked up, so we may have a bad connection sometime.
33:21We'll just check a couple things real quick.
33:24Okay, hold on.
33:26First on the checklist, make sure the wires are hooked up correctly.
33:30Soon.
33:32The other wise man is hooking it up.
33:34Quiet.
33:36Okay.
33:37All right, here we go.
33:39A couple more times and it still won't start.
33:42Looks like it might just be a bomb starter.
33:44Starter's not engaging the flywheel.
33:46Uh-uh.
33:47But before the starter can take the full wrap, Papa Jim's got to go below and make some adjustments.
33:54Do it again.
33:56We got a wrong starter.
33:57You need the one with the aluminum...
33:59Even with their 435 combined years of experience, the three wise men were a little too optimistic in their predictions.
34:06They all thought the engine was going to fire in the first try.
34:09Basically, it was an incorrect starter.
34:10It wouldn't fire.
34:11So we're going to have to run out to a 24-hour auto parts store, hook it up with a new one, and hope that it happens tonight.
34:18But it won't happen tonight unless they take a lot of gear back out so they can remove the starter.
34:23All right, here we go.
34:33Round two.
34:34We changed the starter.
34:35This time, we're fired.
34:40That's a little bit strong.
34:41Glenn? Is it Glenn? Yeah. Glenn? What do you think? 10 to 4 a.m. D-Day. A few more hours,
35:01it's all yours. Coming up. Guys, we have a possible victim. Cops, cameras, and a reveal
35:09you won't want to miss. And on day 7 of our overhaul and thang, we did the sleepless
35:24thang so we could get down to what's known as the finishing the car thang, yo. And now
35:29it's D-Day and it's time to tabulate the time because we're just moments away from bringing
35:34Glenn and his ride back together. For shizzle. All right, well, it's D-Day and I'm wondering
35:40is it going to be disaster day or dream delivery day? As you can see right now, the car is in
35:45the air. The three wise men, half the A-team, is busy attaching the exhaust to the headers,
35:50putting in the new starter, and tweaking the transmission lines. As soon as we can get the
35:53car on the ground, Ray Miller and the interior guys can finish flattening up their end of
35:57things. Captain Hayter can get the deck lid on and all the finishing touches can happen
36:01around here. Hopefully, we're going to make our estimated delivery time.
36:07Ray Miller and his team finally get a chance to install the door panels and the front seat.
36:15Other last minute adjustments? Well, the three wise men are still tweaking the engine.
36:21And there's yet another check to make sure the motor fires.
36:25All right, Glenn is scheduled to be here in a half an hour, and we have a clearance issue
36:28with the tires. They're rubbing, so we're going to have to switch them out. We're going over
36:31to Shoreline right now to get new ones, and hopefully we'll rectify this problem with
36:34them in the next half an hour.
36:45All right, here we go. It is D-Day, and I'm going to make a phone call to Glenn, get him
36:49down here to our location so he can pick his car up. You know what? He's calling right
36:52now. Picture cars.
36:54John, this is Glenn.
36:55You know what? I am going to take you up on your offer to come to pick up the car.
37:00That would help me out greatly.
37:01Okay. When can I pick it up?
37:03Actually, I'm going to be back down at our Orange County location. I can meet you down
37:08there at 6 o'clock. That's actually where your car is. I had it moved down there.
37:13Okay, that's fine.
37:14And it's on.
37:14It's on, and so are a flurry of remaining details. Little things like a helpful gadget
37:20called the steering wheel. The rear bumper now gets bumped onto the to-do list. And here's
37:26a tip. Two of them getting welded onto the tailpipes.
37:29Okay, make way. New tires are rolling in and going on.
37:36Here we are frantically putting the lug nuts on the tire at the last minute. Hopefully this
37:42one is going to be all right and make clearance, because we have no more time.
37:46And what would a finished car be without the hood? Simple answer. It would be an unfinished
37:52car.
37:53All right. Well, we just got word that Glenn is on his way. Right now, Dennis Rickliffe is
37:58busy pinstriping the car. Sid and Kathy are putting those finishing detailing touches on
38:02it. And as usual here on Overhauling, we're using every last minute that we have.
38:06But the time's up. Glenn's here, met by the A-team's Chris Bassett, doing duty as a cop
38:14on the scene.
38:15Can I help you?
38:16Yeah, I can put a big car up.
38:18What would your car be doing here?
38:20Well, I rented it out to these guys and put it in a TV commercial or something. And I
38:25called the guy and he gave me this address, 50502, and he said to be here at 6.
38:29Guys, we have a possible victim. Do you know who you spoke with?
38:36A guy named John.
38:37Any other names?
38:38A guy named Todd. And then there was a guy named Ira.
38:41Ira Gabriel?
38:42Yeah, Ira Gabriel.
38:43These guys have been running insurance fraud. We've been investigating for a few months
38:48now. My guys are working on that right now. So, I've got some of my deputies inside.
38:54I'm going to have them bring a guy out, see if you can possibly identify him. Do you remember
38:58what this Ira looks like?
38:59Yeah, kind of.
39:00Okay. Well, we've got three guys inside that we're going to go ahead and bring out. Do you
39:05not have a problem with that at all?
39:06No, I don't have a problem with that.
39:10Glenn is an avid overhauling fan, so we've got to watch who we're bringing out first.
39:14Jake, why don't you go ahead and bring the suspect down? They're going to go ahead and bring
39:20him out.
39:27Now, just sit tight.
39:38Do you know this guy?
39:39Do you know this guy?
39:40Have I been overhauling?
39:43Have I been overhauling?
39:44You've got to be beating me up, man.
39:46Congratulations.
39:47Oh, my God.
39:48This can never happen to a guy like me.
39:49I'm just a normal guy.
39:51So, you watch the show?
39:52I watch it all the time.
39:53So, when you saw Chip, right away you knew what was going on?
39:55Oh, yeah, I knew him.
39:56Well, I knew.
39:57When you came out, I was like, no.
39:58And I saw you had your head down.
40:00I'm like, wait a second.
40:01That looks like Chip Boose.
40:02I cannot believe I've been fooled.
40:03I told my wife, there is no way they can fool me.
40:06There's no way.
40:07I can't believe it.
40:08All right, Glenn.
40:09Are you ready?
40:10I'm ready.
40:11Oh, my gosh.
40:12I cannot believe that.
40:17You've got to be kidding me.
40:19Oh, my gosh.
40:28I can't believe it.
40:30I mean, I can't believe you do this in a week.
40:33I'm trying to stretch a little wet, Glenn.
40:36Oh, man.
40:38I even have a car seat for my boys.
40:42This is unbelievable.
40:45I can't believe this.
40:46I mean, I just cannot believe it.
40:50That's so sweet.
40:52Oh, my gosh, Chip.
40:53Thank you so much.
40:55I mean, this is unbelievable.
40:57You're welcome.
40:58I'm a pretty mellow guy.
41:01I mean, so for me to get like, like, I can't.
41:04So don't think that I'm not.
41:05I mean, I just, I mean, I can't.
41:08I'm like, I'm speechless.
41:09I can't believe it.
41:13How could he not be speechless?
41:15A week ago, it was the car he dreamed of fixing up.
41:17Now, it's the car he always dreamed of having.
41:26Words can't describe how unbelievably happy I am.
41:29Hi, Glenn.
41:30No problem, man.
41:32Thank you so much.
41:33Thank you so much.
41:34Thank you so much.
41:35I can't believe this is the same car.
41:36I'm still like looking around to see where my car is.
41:39And where is Glenn's car?
41:42Well, it's under there somewhere, retaining its classic style while it's getting a whole new lease on life.
41:49Isn't it cool?
41:54It's so cool.
41:56I mean, it's just, and it's all, I mean, it's like, like Chip said, in 20 years, it's still going to be a cool car.
42:0220 years or 20,000 years, if Glenn and his family can keep it in this new overhaul condition, it's one Chevy that'll never go out of style.
42:10And now it's time to bring in those three sneaks who pulled the rug on one truly dazed family man.
42:18Oh, my gosh.
42:19You guys love it?
42:20Oh, beautiful.
42:21They're going to love Daddy's car.
42:22That's not even the same car.
42:23How did you trick me?
42:24How could you do this?
42:26What do you think, Gavin?
42:27You like it?
42:28Did you ever imagine it could have looked this good?
42:30Not in my wildest dreams.
42:31Maybe if I had a million dollars.
42:33I cannot believe this.
42:34This is just unbelievable.
42:36I get looked off.
42:37No, that's so cool.
42:38Awesome.
42:39I can't believe this.
42:40My name's Glenn, and I've been overhauled big time.
42:50He's been overhauled, and now it's time to hit the road.
42:54Is this thing sweet or what?
42:57He's a teacher, but we taught him.
43:12You can have both a family car and a hot rod, all in the same sweet ride.
43:17It's unbelievable.
43:18It can happen where the owner gets tricked and the car gets tricked out.
43:23Remember, next time, it could be you right here on Overhauling.
43:48Or rejoin.
43:49It's 45 people.
43:50It's a winterğer having'll be gone by!
43:52Time to hit the StrandingTR Jakarta in the next day!
43:53She was annoyed with me.
43:54This snake gave me back more than mine.
43:55There's a half day.
