00:00I'm not going to waste my time arguing with a man who's lining up to be a hot lunch.
00:04Here's a look at the NECA toys.
00:05This is the Jaws 50th Anniversary Ultimate Hooper Action Figure.
00:30Celebrate 50 years of Jaws with NECA.
00:33Considered one of the greatest achievements in film, the classic 1975 Steven Spielberg thriller paved the way for what would become the summer blockbuster.
00:40The iconic character Matt Hooper portrayed by Richard Dreyfuss is now available as an ultimate action figure.
00:45Standing in 7-inch scale, the young oceanographer is equipped with multiple interchangeable heads, hands, and gloved hands.
00:51Plus a fishing hook, scuba tank, cup, crushed cup, shark dart, and duffel bag.
00:55I see everybody has come back for their noon feeding.
00:58Snacks are over there on the table, and while you're certainly snacking away, I'm going to grab the tape measure and start measuring away.
01:03Now, certainly, if you have been following this channel as of late, we've already had a look at the 50th Anniversary Quint.
01:08Now we're going to be following things up with the 50th Anniversary Hooper.
01:11The tape measure is going to tell us, based, of course, on having it close to the figure,
01:15that Ultimate Hooper is going to stand at about 7 inches in height, give or take.
01:20That's going to translate to a figure that's 17 1⁄2 centimeters tall.
01:24Speaking of Quint, here's Quint right here.
01:26Looking at the two figures, Hooper really should be smaller than Quint.
01:30Couldn't help but, though, really notice that when I'm looking at Hooper,
01:32does it not appear to me like the lower half of his body isn't really quite proportioned to the top half of his body?
01:38Like, he sort of seems like he's a little squished.
01:41Now, Hooper was released in two retro cloth releases in the past.
01:44I totally must have dropped the shark cage when picking up the second one.
01:47I did pick up the scuba Hooper, where you can actually see, like, size-wise, obviously,
01:53and I'm probably going to be comparing the two together.
01:54There was, though, again, a retro cloth release of Hooper that looked like this.
01:58For one reason or another, the guy behind the camera totally passed on picking him up.
02:01I hope you guys are all still hungry, because you're going to have a full plate of accessories when it comes to Hooper.
02:05The figure has, like Quint, the means to have his arms taken off.
02:09You can also detach and remove his jacket and have the figure displayed the way he looks at the end of the film.
02:14Going back a little bit first, though, the figure does come include with a couple of accessories,
02:17like, for example, his duffel bag.
02:19When we first see him walking down the pier in Amity,
02:21you actually see him wearing around or carrying this duffel bag on the back of his body.
02:25He doesn't necessarily have this head.
02:28He actually has closer more to this head, where he's got the little beanie on the back.
02:31That's kind of the way I had him displayed at the beginning of this review,
02:33when he was first rotating on the rotisserie.
02:35The one real issue I have with the duffel bag is more just the fact it's really heavy,
02:39even though, really, it is just still plastic.
02:41Like, having this, though, sliding up his arm and draped across the back of his body is next to impossible.
02:48Now, he also would have been holding the strap,
02:50but it's not something you can easily do,
02:51being the fact that only the figure has a single hinge in his elbow.
02:55Sure, yeah, he can hold the strap,
02:56but the strap isn't long enough, then, to fit around his shoulder,
02:59so you have to kind of make the sacrifices there.
03:01The duffel bag certainly does look the way it does in the film,
03:04for at least what little we see of it.
03:06Just again, not to fall over.
03:07However, it's nicely colored.
03:08It does also have the handles there on the top,
03:11and it would have, believably enough,
03:13a zipper that you'd be able to open up and see what's inside.
03:17Again, it's a nice way to display the figure like that.
03:19Some may choose not to have him like that,
03:20just because, again, it's going to make it a little bit more back-heavy.
03:23He does also come included with two versions of his cup.
03:26As we certainly see with Quint,
03:28he drinks the beer and crushes the cup,
03:30or crushes the can.
03:31Hooper does the same with his cup.
03:32So you get a regular version of the cup,
03:34no liquid or anything on the inside,
03:36and then you have a crushed up version of that.
03:38So it looks like he's actually crushing it.
03:39I think that's kind of cool and fun
03:40that they would have included that.
03:42Of course, the figure does also have some swappable hands
03:44to do those jobs as well.
03:46I guess while we're kind of sticking with the skin hands,
03:48the figure does also come include,
03:49well, he has a gripping hand right now
03:51already for holding the following things over here.
03:53If you wanted to have him, for example,
03:54holding the cup,
03:56well, I've already taken the liberty of actually adding that hand,
03:59and you basically just fit the crushed cup
04:01into his hand like that.
04:02Or if you want to have the regular sized cup,
04:05still with the beverage, I'm guessing inside,
04:07you can also do that with this hand as well.
04:10Other hand available options as well
04:11without popping the arms off.
04:14Let's get him to stand here for a second.
04:16He does have a relaxed hand,
04:18and he does also come included
04:20with more smaller C-clamp gripping hands.
04:23Good for again, for holding the following accessories.
04:26He does also have gloved hands,
04:27depending on which way you want to have him looking.
04:29I would likely, though,
04:30to be taking his jacket off first
04:32before swapping it out with the gloved hands,
04:34because we usually see Hooper with this at the end of the movie.
04:37Again, a relaxed hand for that,
04:38a smaller gripping hand,
04:39two actually, in fact, smaller gripping hands,
04:42and two relaxed hands.
04:43So there's some available options there.
04:46The figure does also come included with the needle.
04:48I don't know how exactly you're going to be getting that
04:50on the shark's skin.
04:51Sure enough, though, they find the means.
04:53The actual handle itself is all done here in black plastic.
04:57It does actually look like
04:58it's just a little bit of plastic residue.
05:01I actually thought there was a scratch there on mine.
05:03It's painted well, though you've got the gold on the end.
05:06Probably not good to prick yourself on that.
05:08You don't know what's going to be happening.
05:09This is done in a decent enough plastic.
05:12Still a kind of plastic, though.
05:14You wouldn't want to really be doing what I'm doing right now
05:16with the risk that that could potentially break.
05:18And then you'd be just trying and disappointed.
05:21The figure does also come included with a harpoon.
05:23Good, again, for hooking on the line.
05:25There's that little bit of plastic that was coming off.
05:27It must have been the plastic coming off of this.
05:30I don't see it.
05:31One thing I do want to also point out to you guys as well
05:33is a little control pad.
05:36That's pretty cool.
05:37But yeah, the figure does also come included with the harpoon
05:40or the hook.
05:41Again, you want to hook the line in.
05:43Then he does also come included with this tank.
05:46This tank has a good attention to detail,
05:48as you can see right there.
05:50I wouldn't necessarily say he has a designated hand
05:53for holding the tank.
05:54If anything, you probably could even use the relaxed hands
05:56for kind of cradling it both with both his hands.
05:59He doesn't really necessarily have a hand
06:01that I would say specifically is designed for holding it.
06:03I guess you could also take one of the hands here
06:06and kind of just clamp it around the handle
06:08or the nozzle here
06:10and just kind of carrying it that way.
06:12Just not really the easiest thing to do.
06:13Does it hold it?
06:14Does it survive the blizzard test?
06:17It only really does
06:18because I've got it resting on the thumb.
06:19But the fact that he actually comes included with the tank,
06:22nice little touch on Nekka's part.
06:24Okay.
06:24So the figure does have some swappable heads.
06:27Technically, though,
06:28I suppose I should have really beelined it back
06:30to using this head sculpt
06:31as the starting of this review.
06:33I think in all the cases, though,
06:34Hooper does bear quite a strong likeness here.
06:37And of course, the Richard Dreyfuss.
06:38I really was a big fan of Richard Dreyfuss.
06:40Then I think he kind of fell afoul with Hollywood
06:42and he sort of just fell off the map.
06:44Now, Richard Dreyfuss, I think,
06:45gets a little crazier
06:46when you get him into interviews.
06:48Anyways, though,
06:48Hooper has actually three of the four head sculpts
06:51actually have glasses.
06:53So you get this one here, for example,
06:55that does have the little beanie cap on the top.
06:57It's really a well-sculpted and painted head.
07:00Then you also get this head sculpt,
07:02which has now the cap on the top.
07:04This really should have been the way I've displayed them.
07:06If once you take the jacket off,
07:07you kind of just have the gray shirt underneath.
07:09Again, like all of them look really good.
07:12Again, three of the four do have glasses.
07:15The only one that doesn't actually have glasses
07:17is this one here.
07:19So if you want to have them like displayed the way,
07:20I guess he's inside the boat,
07:22sort of telling all their tales
07:24and showing off their war wounds.
07:25You could display the figure really with that.
07:28I really would prefer, if anything,
07:29to display them with glasses.
07:30Speaking, though, of glasses,
07:31I want to draw your attention, though,
07:33to this head sculpt here.
07:35I noticed getting this one out of the packaging
07:36that the glasses were extremely loose.
07:38These glasses have fallen off a couple of times.
07:40You can see, like,
07:41there's a slot on either side of the figure's face.
07:44Ideally, though,
07:45the glasses should really sit inside of that.
07:47I don't know if there just wasn't enough.
07:49Ah, there goes the glasses.
07:50I knew that would drop them.
07:51It just doesn't maybe seem like
07:52there's a strong enough adhesive.
07:53So these glasses always are prone to falling off.
07:56I'm not necessarily disappointed.
07:57Obviously, I'm going to be disappointed
07:59by that happening.
08:00But really, neither one of these heads
08:02will be displayed on my Hooper.
08:04I think if I was to display the figure with anything,
08:06it would likely be either with a beanie cap
08:07or it would be with the beach cap
08:09or the beach head,
08:10a hat there,
08:11displaying the figure with either one of those.
08:14Then, of course,
08:14Hooper does also have some swappable arms,
08:16similar in the way, again,
08:17like Quint had that.
08:18So you just basically would be detaching the arms
08:20and then taking off the jacket.
08:22And then you basically would then be taking these arms
08:25and plugging them back in place.
08:27Before doing that, though,
08:28let's again look at one of the head sculpts here.
08:31Despite having problems
08:32with at least one of the pairs of glasses
08:34falling off the figure's face,
08:35I think the glasses, for the most part,
08:37have done quite well.
08:38You don't really see necessarily a frame,
08:40but I like that they've used a clear enough plastic
08:42that it's easy enough to see through it
08:44and see the figure's eyes.
08:46The frames on the sides
08:47look pretty good there as well.
08:48A little bit of silver goes nicely a long way.
08:51Yeah, I mean, again,
08:52it's a good-looking head sculpt.
08:54I still feel like, though,
08:55looking at the figure,
08:56there's something that seems off, though,
08:57about the lower end of his body.
08:59Richard Dreyfuss really isn't
09:00the tallest of actors around,
09:01especially if you're going to be comparing him
09:02with, like, Robert Shaw.
09:04But I feel like, maybe, like,
09:05Robert's proportions, I think,
09:07weren't all that bad.
09:08There's something, though, about Hoopers,
09:10where I just feel like his lower legs
09:11seem shorter than they should be.
09:13Like, he needs to be just a tad bit longer.
09:15I don't know, really, necessarily,
09:16how much more longer
09:17you'd want to really have him.
09:19Because you wouldn't want him
09:19to have him be a super tall character.
09:22But I think he definitely needed
09:23to have slightly longer legs.
09:24Maybe even longer down below here.
09:26Maybe it's the calf
09:27that's kind of throwing me off.
09:28Speaking of the calves, though,
09:29as you can see,
09:30the figure is wearing,
09:31well, he's wearing denim on denim.
09:32Some would say that's a Canadian tuxedo.
09:35The denim jacket on the top
09:36does look good.
09:36It's got little snaps on the sides.
09:38Snap around the pocket area there as well.
09:39And a little bit different color
09:41of a denim jean.
09:42And he does also have, as well,
09:44the sneakers, good for walking around,
09:45good for avoiding sharks.
09:47And he does also have peggles
09:48on the bottoms of his feet.
09:49The attentions to detail, though,
09:50I do like that they've added
09:51some weathering on the bottoms
09:53of the soles.
09:53So it looks like these aren't
09:55a new pair of shoes.
09:56But again, if you did want
09:57to change out the body,
09:58you don't necessarily need
09:59to swap out the head.
10:00But let's just say,
10:01for the sake of this,
10:02that you want to,
10:03the head just basically
10:03will just pop off.
10:05And then you basically
10:05would just replace it
10:06with any other head
10:07that you're using.
10:07Now, I deliberately did this.
10:09Some may have already
10:10noticed this and said,
10:10well, wait a minute.
10:11Wait a minute, humble review.
10:12I couldn't help but notice
10:13that your head doesn't look
10:15like it's all the way on there.
10:16One issue, though,
10:17I did really have
10:18when it came to Hooper.
10:19I'm not going to try
10:20to get the head
10:21completely on there.
10:22Every single time
10:23in the beginning,
10:23just prior to hitting record,
10:25when I wanted to take
10:26the head off,
10:27what ended up happening
10:28every single time,
10:29I was taking the neck off too.
10:31Unlike, though, Quint,
10:33Quint didn't technically
10:34have a secondary neck ball joint.
10:36He only really relied
10:37on his head.
10:39Hooper, on the other hand,
10:39actually does have a ball joint
10:41at the base of his neck as well.
10:42And I've noticed this
10:43a couple of times already.
10:44When you go to take this off,
10:46the entire neck piece
10:47came off as well.
10:48So I'm being very selective
10:50as to which figure's head
10:51I'm going to be using
10:52before I put down
10:52a lot of pressure.
10:53That way I just don't have
10:54to do the review again.
10:56But again,
10:57like if you wanted to do
10:57change out the head sculpts,
10:58being that really,
10:59this should have been
11:00the start of our reviews,
11:01just that this is the way
11:02that we see him first
11:03when he's introduced
11:03into the film.
11:05This likely, though,
11:05would be the way
11:06I'm going to be displaying
11:06the figure without the jacket
11:08on him.
11:09To do all that, though,
11:10you don't really have
11:11to take the head off.
11:13I'm just going to do that
11:13for at least right now.
11:14We're going to also
11:15take the arms off.
11:15Those are super easy to do.
11:17And you're also going
11:18to take off the jacket.
11:19That just slides off
11:20very easily.
11:22What was funny, though,
11:22about Hooper
11:23is that you don't have
11:24to stop there.
11:25Oh, this is going to get racy.
11:26No, actually,
11:27you can take his shirt off, too.
11:30I don't know really
11:31why they made this.
11:32I guess they just didn't
11:33want to adhere to anything
11:34on his body.
11:35I mean, they could probably
11:36have glued it
11:36to the top of his torso.
11:37I mean, left away the stomach,
11:39so you'd still have
11:40full posability options.
11:41But yeah, the shirt
11:42also does come off
11:43fairly easy as well.
11:44Take your arms for Hooper
11:46and lining up the holes,
11:48of course.
11:49I want to make sure,
11:50of course, the shirt's
11:50also far enough down
11:51there on his torso.
11:52There we go.
11:53Take the arm that we want
11:54to use.
11:55Make sure, of course,
11:55it's on the right side.
11:57And we'll do the same thing
11:59then on the other side.
12:00Just plug that in place.
12:03Observe it.
12:03Viewers will already notice
12:04the fact I still don't
12:05have hands yet for Hooper.
12:06I'm going to fix that
12:06in a second.
12:07Take the head
12:08that we want to then use.
12:10And I think I'm going
12:10to commit to the idea
12:11of maybe using this head.
12:12So this is the head
12:13I'm going to apply
12:13a little bit more pressure for.
12:16And you'll kind of see
12:17what I mean in a second.
12:18The one thing you also
12:19will want to be careful of
12:20is don't put pressure
12:22against the front of his face
12:23because that may buckle
12:24the frame for the glasses.
12:26Did you do that earlier, though?
12:27And maybe that's one of the reasons
12:28why you were having
12:29problems with the glasses.
12:30No, I did not,
12:31in case you were being curious.
12:34The head's somewhat on there.
12:35Let's go ahead now
12:36and find ourselves
12:37a pair of hands.
12:37So we'll take those gloved hands
12:39that we looked at earlier.
12:40We're going to plug in
12:41one hand on one side.
12:42By the way, though,
12:43the figure does also
12:43have a wristwatch.
12:45The wristwatch is, though,
12:46sculpted to this arm,
12:47so it doesn't look like
12:48it actually comes off,
12:49which is probably
12:50a good thing, too.
12:51You wouldn't want to have
12:52to worry about losing
12:53wristwatch in the same way
12:54that I just lost his glasses.
12:55I know where they are.
12:56They're on the floor.
12:57I'm going to retrieve them
12:58in a second.
12:59Where's the hand
12:59that I want to use?
13:00Here's the hand
13:01I want to use.
13:02I'm going to plug
13:03the gloved hands now in.
13:04There we go.
13:06And Hooper, for the most part,
13:07is ready to battle the shark.
13:08I guess all we really
13:09then need to do
13:10is take ourselves
13:11the little needle
13:12and we'll just kind of
13:14slide that in between
13:15his hands now.
13:16These hands still
13:17are very hard plastic.
13:19Heating them up
13:20in hot water
13:20would probably be
13:21best advised.
13:22You can also use,
13:22of course, the hairdryer
13:23and you can have
13:24Hooper displayed that way.
13:25Does it seem, though,
13:26proportionally
13:26like he's still squat?
13:28Too short on the lower legs?
13:30Let me know
13:30what you guys think.
13:31In the meantime, though,
13:32let me show you guys
13:33what his articulation is.
13:35We'll go ahead
13:35and just kind of
13:36take the spear off
13:37right now.
13:39Okay, let's hope
13:39his head stays in place.
13:41Hooper's head, yes,
13:42is going to be
13:42on a ball joint.
13:43It will be, of course,
13:45best advised.
13:46You know what?
13:46Let's get that
13:46all the way on there.
13:49The head is going
13:49to be on a ball joint.
13:50Starting back,
13:51go and look at that again.
13:52The head's going
13:53to be on a ball joint.
13:54Further down from that,
13:55there's also a ball joint
13:56at the base of his neck.
13:57So the figure does
13:57actually have posability
13:58in two points.
14:00Quint never had that.
14:01Hooper does.
14:02The arms do rotate
14:03all the way around.
14:04You can take those arms
14:04and hinge them out
14:05at 90 degrees.
14:06Or if you prefer,
14:07a T pose.
14:08Capital T
14:09for terror.
14:11The figure does still
14:12only manage to pull off
14:13a single hinge
14:14in his elbow.
14:15Comes with the territory
14:15of now the ultimate figures.
14:17Ultimate figures tend not
14:18to really have double hinges
14:19in their elbows.
14:19Some still do.
14:21Hooper unfortunately doesn't.
14:22He only has just a single.
14:24Hands rotate
14:24all the way around, though.
14:25You can hinge them
14:26back and forth.
14:27As we already kind of
14:28see his bare chest underneath,
14:29we already know
14:30that the figure has
14:30a top torso joint
14:32right here.
14:33But he does also have
14:33one down below
14:34in his waist.
14:35Hooper's legs
14:36manage to split out.
14:37There's ball joints
14:37working behind the scenes.
14:39You take them
14:39and move them forward.
14:40And again,
14:41move them back.
14:41There's a swivel
14:42there at the top
14:42of the thigh.
14:43Single hinge
14:44still in the knee.
14:45Lower leg rotation.
14:46Up and down.
14:47Ankle pivot.
14:48Back and forth.
14:48Ankle rocker.
14:49Let's get Quint
14:51standing here.
14:54And we'll bring back
14:55in the Quint
14:56that we've already
14:56had a look at.
14:59Yeah, Brody.
15:00Really a shame, though,
15:00that we never got
15:01ourselves a chance
15:02to get him.
15:03Of course, since then,
15:04though, we've also
15:04got ourselves
15:05Bruce the Shark.
15:06I would love to get
15:07my hands on that one.
15:08Still, it's strange
15:09that every site
15:10that I've checked
15:11show as a pre-order.
15:13Yet, I'm sure
15:13there's been a lot
15:14of U.S. collectors
15:15that have already
15:15had the chance
15:16to pick that one up.
15:16I think even like
15:17NECA site still shows
15:19the Shark as being
15:20a pre-order.
15:20But at least I have
15:21now my hands
15:22on both Quint
15:23and Hooper.
15:24Both figures
15:24look really good.
15:25And again,
15:26I don't know really why
15:27I never ended up
15:28picking up the
15:28Retrocloth version
15:29of Hooper.
15:30I only ended up
15:31really getting
15:31this Hooper
15:32with, of course,
15:33the Scuba Tank.
15:34I don't know really
15:34if we're going to be
15:35getting any other
15:36versions of Hooper,
15:37whether we will get
15:38the one with the
15:38Shark Tank or not.
15:39At least we did
15:40technically get one
15:41as a Retrocloth.
15:41I know some don't
15:42really like collecting
15:43Retrocloth figures
15:44and some really prefer
15:45more to get
15:46the Ultimate releases.
15:47If you are though
15:48and you're a big fan
15:49of Jaws,
15:50I would imagine though
15:51you've already had
15:51the chance to both
15:52now pick up Quint
15:53and Hooper
15:54that we've looked at
15:54in these several reviews.
15:56The sad part about
15:57getting an Ultimate Quint
15:58and now an Ultimate Hooper
15:59is it's more the reminder
16:00that we're not getting
16:01a Martin Brody.
16:02Reasons unknown,
16:03I think it had a lot
16:04more to do with the fact
16:05that the Scheider family
16:06just didn't want to
16:07lend the licenses out.
16:08Because I think NECA
16:09at one point
16:10planned not only
16:11to do a Brody,
16:12but that was the same
16:13time that they hinted
16:14the Shark.
16:15We're still getting
16:15now the Shark.
16:16In fact,
16:17some collectors
16:17have already had
16:18the chance to grab
16:19the Bruce,
16:19but we're never
16:20going to be getting
16:20a Brody.
16:21Unless plans do change,
16:23it does sort of
16:23feel incomplete
16:24that the trio
16:24really isn't a trio.
16:26We've only now
16:26just gotten the two.
16:28Of the two figures
16:29that we've gotten,
16:30I think both the figures
16:30look the part.
16:31They both look both
16:32like the actors
16:33and the characters
16:33from the film.
16:35Depending on how
16:36you really would like
16:36to display Matt Hooper,
16:38you can choose the way
16:38that he's appearing
16:39at the beginning of the movie,
16:40or as we've now
16:41wrapped up the review here,
16:42or currently in the process of,
16:44you can also have
16:45the figure displayed
16:45the way that we see
16:46at the end of the movie
16:47with the hat.
16:48The only one real issue
16:49that I have with Hooper,
16:51other than being,
16:51looking still like
16:52he's got too short in legs,
16:54is that also his glasses.
16:56I was able to at least
16:57find the glass
16:57that fell off his face,
16:59but I might just end up
17:00having to put a little bit
17:00of an adhesive
17:01because it didn't seem
17:02to be that the glue
17:03that they used
17:04was strong enough
17:04to hold the glasses
17:05the way they were
17:06out of the packaging.
17:07Every other head,
17:09by the way,
17:10has had no issues
17:11at all with glasses
17:12falling off.
17:13It's just something
17:14about that one face.
17:16I can't seem to keep
17:16the glasses on them.
17:18Have you had similar issues
17:19if you've picked up
17:20the Hooper for yourself?
17:21Let me know down below.
17:23If you also have
17:23picked up the figure,
17:24which way do you
17:25have them displayed?
17:26Tuxedo?
17:27Canadian tuxedo?
17:28Denim on denim?
17:29Or are you choosing
17:30to have the figure displayed
17:31with the sweatshirt and jeans
17:32like you're currently
17:33seeing right now?
17:34If you guys did also
17:35enjoy this video,
17:36you can do it a solid
17:36and throw it a like.
17:37You guys want to stick
17:38around for more so?
17:39Yeah, I hope so.
17:41There may not be
17:41a whole lot more NECA
17:42coming your way
17:43for the rest of this week,
17:44but if you still need
17:45your fix,
17:45popping up at the very
17:46end of this video
17:47will be a playlist
17:47of all the things
17:48I've done for the company
17:49in the past.
17:50As always, guys,
17:51thanks for watching.
17:52See you guys next time.
