Heavy rainfall caused flooding in several parts of Trinidad today, with commuters in and around Port of Spain forced to navigate flooded roadways and seek alternative routes.

The Met Office says the rainfall was associated with a tropical wave that affected Trinidad, bringing heavy showers and thunderstorms to several areas.

Sharla Kistow reports.

00:22We had a tropical wave that affected us today, most of the showers and isolated
00:29thunderstorms affected mostly Channadar, the activities started from early morning, particularly
00:36across southern Channadar, with some of the heaviest thunderstorm activity occurring
00:41offshore during the early morning.
00:44By mid-morning conditions became somewhat more settled, allowing some of the heating to take
00:50place and this contributed to the development of additional showers and thunderstorms during
00:56the afternoon, the early afternoon, particularly across northern and northwestern Channadar.
01:08The Shabika wave has moved off to the west, it's moving away from us, but we do expect conditions
01:15over Channadar to gradually become more settled overall.
01:34Also today though, we have the intertropical congregants who are trailing this wave that affected us today.
01:43So there is some potential for some just lingering showers and isolated thunderstorms from a low chance,
01:50and this is because we have a mild to marginally moderate Saharanda in the atmosphere.
