00:07so says Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadija Amin.
00:11The minister toured what she referred to as high-risk areas in Princess Town and Mayaru on Tuesday.
00:19One of the most affected areas is the Robert Village North Road,
00:22where a landslip has been worsening for over seven years, impacting hundreds of students of the nearby Hindu school.
00:30Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. Aina Ali, was present for the tour, and she spoke with the media.
00:39And this is a very important road, because if this road is cut off from the main road,
00:45we lose access to the Robert Village Hindu school.
00:48This school has over 500 students.
00:51The students will not be able to attend school, and this road is not only important to these villagers,
00:57but also people in the surrounding areas, because people visit here, people send their kids to school here.
01:02So this is very essential for us to get started and get the work done.
01:08In Poole Village, Mayaru, Rio Claro, disaster struck just days ago
01:12when a resident's vehicle plunged off the edge of a collapsed roadway.
01:16Minister Khadija Amin claims that many rural communities have suffered years of neglect under the previous administration.
01:24She now plans to meet regularly with local corporations to ensure urgent repairs are made,
01:29and such incidents are not repeated.
01:32We had a resident whose car went down the precipice because the entire roadway has now been eroded, collapsed,
01:39and the MP4 mayoral, Mr. Nicholas Morris, has made a request to have some remedial work done there.
