00:00Heavy rainfall left homes and roadways flooded across parts of Sea Trust on Saturday.
00:05The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government says several households were affected, with water entering some homes.
00:14There were reports of flooding, so we have about 15 in Bonas Village, including the Manmohan Singh Street and Edward
00:22Street.
00:22In Fullerton area, which is close to the beachfront, we had about six on the lower side and about five
00:30closer to the beach in Fullerton Village.
00:33We also have about eight reports in Limefield Village, including the Campbell Street area.
00:39And there is the St. Mary's Housing Development along the Perseverance Road as well, in that sea dress community where
00:47about 10 households were affected with water going into the homes.
00:52So our teams have been dispatched.
00:55The minister says disaster management personnel from the Separia Regional Corporation were deployed, with additional personnel being brought in from
01:03neighboring regions as needed.
01:05The Ministry of Works is also assisting with drainage and cleanup efforts, while teams assess the damage to affected homes.
01:12Ameen says the flooding was worsened by the combination of intense rainfall and high tide, particularly in areas close to
01:21the coast.
01:22A lot of the drains that cause this is drains that are close to the seaside.
01:29So this morning we had high tide and the runoff was not as quick as if the tide is lower.
01:38So that combination of very intense torrential rain and the high tide would have caused a lot of the flooding.
01:47River levels are also being monitored in the Akakas area, where the ministry says rivers are at bankful capacity.
01:55Ameen is urging residents in affected areas to take precautions and avoid driving through floodwaters, warning that the depth and
02:05strength of the water may not be immediately apparent.
