00:00Tessica Lawrence is the daughter of journalist Kwame Lawrence. You've already
00:04met her brother, the cyclist Devante Lawrence, another powerful prospect in
00:09the sport. Tessica is showing signs of finesse in gymnastics and she's
00:13comfortable in front of the camera. No question she has journalism in her
00:17ancestry. She speaks well, is well mannered and has good composure. Do you
00:22have any intentions of being a reporter? No. What do you think about the coverage of
00:28gymnastics on a whole in Trinidad and Tobago by the media? I feel like there's not much
00:32like spotlight put on gymnastics so that could definitely be worked on but I
00:39think Express is doing a good job. And how can the media improve coverage of
00:47gymnastics? What are your suggestions? Maybe like ask more questions, like look
00:54closer into the sport because they probably don't cover it enough because
00:59they don't know what's going on so just if they were to delve more into our
01:04world. She attends Bishop Anstey High School, Port of Spain and sees her career
01:09going down a different pathway. I think I'll definitely like pursue a career
01:14outside of sports but I'll continue with sports as long as I could. She first
01:19traveled with the national team at the Carifta Championships where she won
01:23silver in the vault, bronze on the beam and she came third overall based on her
01:28scores. She too is hoping to make her parents happy. He was very proud you can
01:34see it in his face and well he said congrats you know he's very happy for me
01:38you know I worked hard. So you support your brother in cycling? Yes I do, I go to
01:45every competition. So how come you're not a cyclist? Gymnastics is more fun. Okay so
01:55what do you enjoy most about gymnastics and do you encourage him to do
01:58gymnastics as well? I don't think I would encourage him to do gymnastics but I
02:03enjoy the fact that there's so much you can do like it's not like any regular
02:10sport where it's just one thing all the time there's always a new skill you can
02:14try and there are four apparatus. Tessica is 17 years old and it pays
02:21close attention to the dynamics involved in gymnastics. She knows it's important
02:26as she progresses in the sport. So what do you hope the competition is for? Maybe more
02:34international competitions perhaps bigger than Carifta Games. For now though
02:41Tessica is applying focus to the vault while balancing life and school as she
02:46too believes in the gymnastics proverb which states dream big because dreams do
02:51happen. Sergio Dufort TV6 Sport
