Trinidad and Tobago will be fielding a young team for the Caribbean Badminton Championships as well as the International Open. Chequeda De Boulet is one of the more experienced athletes representing the country. She will be hoping to shine amidst regional and international competition.
00:00Badminton player Shaquida Debouleh has tasted senior competition before and now for the Caribbean Badminton Championships, she's hoping to take her game to a new level.
00:10I'm most looking forward to the competition, playing against a lot of other countries, as well as for the international, a lot of countries from, well a lot of players from Europe and so on.
00:23So how would you describe training so far for this competition?
00:26Preparation has been going well and I'm just excited to see how it all comes together.
00:35The time is fast approaching for the competition and there's only so much that can be done from now until the start from next week Wednesday until the following Sunday.
00:4415-year-old Ethan Ramchiran is looking forward to the experience. He is the current national under-19 champion.
00:52For Kaibaku seniors, I hope to win gold in singles as I've been working hard with and in the international. I hope to reach as far as I could and play to the best of my ability.
01:07This will be a new experience for the athlete who says he is satisfied with his progress in the sport.
01:12I think I've improved steadily over the period of time I've been playing and I hope that I can reach further in the sport in the future.
01:21Amara Urquhart will also be stepping up to the senior level. She believes it will boost her confidence but she's feeling some pressure.
01:29Awesome. I mean, I was the three-time Kaibaku juniors champion for singles. So I feel a little bit of pressure now that I'm going into the senior level.
01:39She's willing to embrace the experience of learning more about herself.
01:44Well, I think it's really going to boost my confidence because I'm still a junior growing into seniors.
01:49So I think this will do a lot for me. It'll also help me learn more about myself and the difference between me and seniors and what I need to keep doing to get better.
02:00How would you describe training so far?
02:02Training, it's been tough, but that's good. I think I've been training hard and my preparation will take me there.
