00:00With the Senior Open Championship set for this weekend, prepared to see some new faces.
00:04Field athlete Adriana Kwamina will be gracing the competition for the first time since turning 18 years old.
00:11She competes in the short put and discuss and has a personal best of 12.70 meters in the short put and 47.11 meters in the discuss.
00:20Well, I've been doing both of them for a long time and I think I've kept increasing, kept growing.
00:28I started before when I was like 12 or 13 and I've been to about three workouts, Jamaica, one in 2022 which was Grenada and this year which was in Trinidad right here.
00:44I think I've been doing really good. I won a bronze medal in Jamaica and I just continue to look for success.
00:54She will be doing both a discuss and a short put at the Open Championships and she says her objective is to get as close to or break the junior record in her more favoured event, the discuss.
01:04I mean it's merely just to PB and I want to get, I want to get as close to the junior record as I can. I believe it's 49.02 with us and I know PB is 47.11 so I'm hoping to get as close as possible to that junior record.
01:21She trains with the W Progressive Athletic Club and she's coached by her father, Santo Peter Kwamina.
01:27I think I'm somebody who's very driven, very consistent. I've been through failures but I don't give up. I just keep going.
01:37What is your long-term goal for this sport?
01:41It's ready to see how far to go and if I'm going to Olympics and Olympics are happy.
