00:02Preparations are in progress for the 2026 Trinidad and Tobago Great Race, which takes place on August 15th.
00:08At Tuesday's presser at the Yacht Club in Glencoe, TTPBA President Stephan Scott Lewis said he was looking forward to
00:15another year of exciting races.
00:17The Great Race is more than just a high speed journey from Trinidad and Tobago.
00:22It's a national tradition, a symbol of innovation, endurance and an unbreakable spirit of competition.
00:31Afterwards, some of the participants spoke with the media.
00:35Mr. Solo 2 driver Hayden Charles said there were some issues with his vessel which had to be addressed going
00:40into the Great Race.
00:41During the course of the year we have regatas and so that help, well first of all we try to
00:47attend,
00:47but it also is a good way to make sure that the preparation of the boat is good for the
00:53Great Race.
00:55And that turned out to be true this year because we entered one regatta we got in,
00:59the other two we entered but we weren't able to compete because of small issues that we had to fix.
01:08And luckily for us, because of the regatas, we found them in time so we could fix it in time
01:13for the Great Race and get to Tobago there.
01:15Hayden's son Christopher Charles is also taking part in the Great Race but in the cruiser class as the driver
01:21of the vessel Big Yellow.
01:23Well, I mean it is my first time driving to Tobago, you know, I'm just excited, I don't really have
01:29any expectations, you know.
01:30I wasn't really expecting to even get this opportunity but Devo, someone who I'll be racing with, texted me and
01:37he asked me if I wanted to race and I said of course.
01:39So, I'm taking out the boat for the first time.
01:43Also participating at this year's Great Race are defending champions extreme measures racing in the 70 mile class.
01:49Driver Jonathan Moutier said he hoped for good conditions and some stiff competition.
01:53Well, for the past two years it was relatively calm, I'm hoping for the same thing this year, but it's
02:00always unpredictable and we only know what we're facing when we reach out there.
02:04Well, they always say they come in to beat us but they haven't achieved that yet, but we're hoping that
02:11they're a little more, you know, on the ball this year.
02:13As is the case every year, it starts off with a boat show, with the date being August 1st at
02:19Adam Smith Square in Woodbrook from 1pm to 6pm.
02:22Then two weeks later, the Great Race commences from 7.15am at the foreshore and ends in Storbein, Tobago.
