02:57Who's you?
02:59It's me, Larry, from online.
03:23Welcome to Beyond the Tape.
03:29Welcome to our viewers across Trinidad and Tobago and, of course, across the globe.
03:35I'm your host, Marc Bessant.
03:37It's certainly been a very eventful weekend.
03:39Of course, a number of crimes committed and so on.
03:43And, of course, today, being Monday, we have with us Captain Valence Rambarat from the
03:49Hunter Search and Rescue Team.
03:51Welcome, Mr. Rambarat.
03:52How are you?
03:53And how was the weekend?
03:54Well, Marc, first of all, good evening to our viewers and to you as well.
03:59It's a pleasure to be on Beyond the Tape again.
04:02Our weekend was extremely tough.
04:05We had training, and then we had searches to conduct down in the penal district, as
04:12well as we had a drowning down in Palo Seco.
04:15And I'll go into those details shortly.
04:18But this week, in particular, Marc, we've been overwhelmed with requests for searches
04:24of persons whose loved ones go missing.
04:27And it seems as if it's a daily occurrence.
04:30And I think it's important, you know, that members of the public know that we have volunteers
04:38at the end of the day.
04:40And it's so much we could do, and we have limited resources.
04:45But we continue to assist these families when their loved ones go missing.
04:50And very early in the morning, we push out to Palo Seco again to look for Justin Thomas,
04:56who had some difficulty while bathing down at the Palo Seco Beach Camp Beach area.
05:04Yes.
05:05All right.
05:06And today is also day 29 of the state of emergency.
05:09And before we continue our discussion with Captain Rambarat, we just want to bring you
05:13up to date with the state of emergency figures up to day 29.
05:23So the number of operations conducted, 1,617.
05:27Priority offenders, 1,393.
05:31Searches conducted to date, 9,973.
05:35Traffic operations, 1,387.
05:39Total persons arrested, 1,278.
05:43Traffic offenses detected, 4,529.
05:47Firearms recovered to date, 53.
05:49Ammunition recovered, 1,275 assorted ammunition.
05:53And dangerous drugs seized to date, 157,109 grams of cannabis and approximately 864 grams of cocaine.
06:05So Sydney, as the state of emergency continues, now enter almost its second month in about two weeks from now.
06:13That is basically the updates in terms of the arrests or contraband they've seized so far.
06:20So if you have approximately, still in January, and I'm seeing the figure for firearms recovered, 53.
06:26And I think, I know they're pushing in that area to get guns off the street.
06:32But having recovered 53, I think that's an excellent effort thus far to get rid of guns from the streets.
06:41Certainly hopeful that, you know, as you said, that is the weapon of choice when it comes to committing crimes.
06:48Crimes, yeah.
06:49And, you know, so we're hopeful that that figure will obviously go up as time passes by.
06:55And I know that you have some important information to share as it relates to at least two of the persons that you continue to track
07:02that have been missing over the last couple of months or weeks rather, Justin Thomas and Marika Harry.
07:09Right, so Marika Harry continues to engage our attention.
07:13We're in constant contact with the Barakpore Police Station as well as the Pinel Police Station.
07:20And Marika's mother, Brenda, was in the media highlighting the fact that the police were not assisting.
07:28On our end, we could say that when we required their assistance, they are with us.
07:34Quietly, of course, we don't like to publish the fact about our searches with police officers.
07:41But we were there in the police district, in the Pinel David district, and we conducted several searches for her.
07:49The number one person that the police requires to speak with is a gentleman by the name of Ernst.
07:57His correct name could be Wendell Cordner or Kristen Cordner.
08:03And here it is. You can see we were visiting a few houses in the Pinel district during the week.
08:13And these searches have been going on constantly during the week.
08:18This is one search we're not giving up on, and it will continue into this week as well.
08:25And you can see the police officers are in the house there conducting their searches based on a sighting.
08:31We would have received information on a sighting.
08:35Sighting as in reference to the missing person or sighting as in reference to the suspects?
08:40No, the missing person.
08:42And at this particular house, we were able to pick up some valuable information as well.
08:49And so the police are continuing the investigations, and we are continuing our field searches to find America Harry.
08:58And we find it a bit strange that after 27 days she has not been located.
09:06And that shows that we have risen the red flag on this case.
09:11We want to continue to bring it to the attention of the public because there's somebody out there who knows more about this than we do.
09:20Yeah, and your associates out there, of course, if you have information that can assist the police in finding Miss Harry, please bring it to the attention of the authorities.
09:31If there's somebody who you know might have been responsible, please bring it to the authorities' attention.
09:37Yeah, and then we had Justin Thomas.
09:39Now, over the weekend, we had a very tough training exercise on with the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services.
09:46And it was held close to where Justin Thomas went missing.
09:51He got into difficulty while bathing in Palo Seco Beach.
09:54And immediately after we came out from the training, we just had something to eat and we went to look for him.
10:02We conducted some shore patrols on the beach there.
10:07And tonight, the family is going to work in another direction.
10:12And very early in the morning, Hunter Search and Rescue Team will be there.
10:16Just in case nothing is found, we intend to conduct a few sea patrols in that area.
10:23That area is very remote.
10:25There are no houses between Siparia and Lucy Road.
10:29That's about 10 kilometers off beach front.
10:33There are no houses.
10:34You have steep cliffs, rocky terrain, and it's very difficult to search.
10:41But we've just committed to resume the search in the morning to try and get Justin Thomas.
10:50At least recovered?
10:52Recovered, yes.
10:53Yes, as the newspaper reported today that they believe he might have drowned.
10:58Disappeared yesterday morning around 10.50 a.m. while swimming with friends.
11:02And we know that beach, it's pretty rough waters.
11:06Yeah, rough waters.
11:07And I think over the weekend, we did have some rough waters.
11:10Remember the incident with the Coast Guard and the boat and the tow line snapping.
11:14The seas were indeed rough.
11:16All right, let's take a look at our headlines now.
11:23[♪dramatic music playing♪♪.
11:50So those are some of the headlines within the past 24 hours.
11:53And, of course, just on the doorsteps of the Express House, not far away from here,
11:57maybe about a block and a half, two blocks away, there was an incident this morning
12:04in which there's some footage here from our cameraman Devon Parker and Brandon Benoit.
12:11Apparently, three suspects, we understand, went to a casino on Charlotte Street
12:18and attempted to rob the casino.
12:21And in so doing, of course, one of the two suspects met his demise.
12:27He was shot, apparently, by a security on duty there.
12:31We also understand that the second assailant in that particular robbery,
12:37sorry, it was two suspects, I understand, not three.
12:41He was also shot and he escaped, but police also believe he was shot multiple times, I believe,
12:49and is probably nursing gunshot wounds.
12:52So it's only a matter of time before he's found.
12:55And it's a clear indication that crime does not pay.
13:00And we consider that time immemorial because this is in the heart of downtown Port-au-Prince, right?
13:09These casinos obviously have their security and so on.
13:12So trying to go into a casino, which is obviously there are a number of cameras,
13:17they have their security and so on, they will have those precepted guards as well.
13:23So that any attempt made by anybody with ill intentions,
13:29like this individual lying on the pavement there,
13:32and the other one who was shot and is still at large,
13:36this will be the end result for people who are going down that road.
13:41Yeah, and I think these guys are taking some,
13:43they're not calculating the risk involved in committing these crimes
13:48and they're just simply throwing away their lives.
13:50They're not thinking through things.
13:52I mean, this was a high-risk robbery.
13:56And I am assuming now they would have thought about the risk.
14:02But we're seeing that all over where they don't care for their lives
14:05and they're just willing to take the risk to get money.
14:08And we're seeing the consequences of that.
14:11They end up being dead all over the place.
14:14So I think the crime was ill thought of,
14:20but they continue to carry out these high-risk robberies.
14:26Yeah, and you're saying that the gentleman, the suspect, sorry,
14:30he was just 21 years of age, now living life,
14:35from the Matarita area that is just after Arima.
14:40So clearly he came from afar to put down this job with his friend,
14:47who is now on the run and missing gunshot wounds as well.
14:50Yeah, and when we look at Arima, for instance,
14:55we see a lot of criminal activity there and criminals there.
14:59So they're migrating to Port of Spain to conduct these robberies.
15:03So yeah, it's a situation we know about.
15:0721 is young, young, and these young guys are throwing away their lives,
15:12taking high risks.
15:15And in some cases they will not succeed, and this is the end result.
15:21Surely, and if they do succeed later on, that life catches up with you.
15:26We're going to take a short break, and we'll be back.
15:28Stay with us.

18:05Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
18:06I'm your host, Marco San, joined today by Captain Valens Ramarat
18:09from the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
18:12Just a reminder of the numbers to call.
18:14623-1711, extensions 1996 and 1997.
18:20And I know this is a time where we give an update about the missing persons
18:25for the month of January and what you might have had previously.
18:31So what we do, we had 24 reports of missing persons for January 2025,
18:38and this is kind of keeping up with one of the average we have had for January
18:43in the past and for the year.
18:46We have Marika Harry, who is still outstanding
18:50and who I spoke about at the start of the program.
18:53We find it strange that we've not been able to locate Marika Harry,
18:57and if she had gone missing or run away, we would have gotten her back by now.
19:03But we have raised the red flag on this one,
19:06and we are continuing the search for her in the Penal Debate District.
19:12Then we have also outstanding is Kimaya Bishop.
19:16We know her well.
19:18She's a repeated runaway teenager, and we're working with her mother to get her back.
19:23She also went missing on the 1st of January.
19:27Then we have Destiny Matthews, another repeated runaway teenager, 16,
19:35and we're working with her parents to get her back as well.
19:39So we know these girls well.
19:42But in Keston Koto's case, we're suspecting now that we may be dealing with a crime here
19:53and that he could have been possibly murdered.
19:56That is why he has not been found thus far,
19:59and we continue to work with the Tanapulina Police to try to find Keston Koto.
20:06Kiana Vidal, we have very little information on her whereabouts thus far,
20:12but she's from the Barataria District.
20:16She's new to us, and we're working with her family, her relatives, to try to get her back.
20:25Onika Holder came on our radar this week.
20:30She's from the Belmont District, and we contacted her relatives and the police.
20:36We feel strongly in a couple of days we will be able to get back Onika home.
20:42All right, I don't want to say much about Onika.
20:45As well as Maile Castillo from Bagalu Trace Enterprise, we have some information on her as well.
20:53Don't want to discuss it on the air,
20:56but we feel strongly that we will be able to locate Maile Castillo in a couple of days' time as well.
21:05Then Emily Ramtisun, we have little information on her in terms of information,
21:11so we're asking members of the public, if you have information on Emily Ramtisun,
21:16please contact 799-1453 and get in contact with us.
21:21We need to get her home.
21:23Vishnu Puranlal came on the radar this morning.
21:26I just want to say that we're in contact with the family.
21:30We are splitting our team in two tomorrow.
21:33One team will be heading to Devil's Woodyard in Newgrange to assist the family,
21:38and the other one down in Palasiko tomorrow.
21:41So we have two searches on in the morning.
21:44So he was last seen, or he's from Devil's Woodyard?
21:47Yeah, he's from Devil's Woodyard.
21:49But he went missing from that area?
21:51He went missing last Friday.
21:54We believe that a search is necessary to try to locate Vishnu.
21:59We are in contact with his family.
22:01In fact, I met his brother Ramesh on a previous visit to the area just about a month ago.
22:07So we're familiar with the family, and we're going to try and get Vishnu tomorrow.
22:18Christine Rasool, we just got a contact number from her relatives,
22:23and maybe on our way down we'll pass through Barclay in Claxton Bay.
22:28When we see that age, 36, and she's missing, it becomes worrisome.
22:33So maybe we will be going there to make sure that we have all the information available on her.
22:41I did just see the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
22:46It's pertaining to her, so I said that had to be fairly new.
22:50But when we look at the ages, Mark, we know when to raise a bit of a red flag, a bit of a concern.
22:56We have to move that from the back burner to the front burner.
22:59So we will be visiting this family in a short while.
23:02We got the contact number for the relatives,
23:05and I'll speak to them on the way down and possibly visit the family.
23:10And then we have Justin Thomas.
23:13Justin went swimming. He's a good swimmer. He went to Palo Seco.
23:18We met his friends there yesterday.
23:20One of them was saying he probably made a joke to say that he was going to try to swim to Venezuela.
23:26We don't really believe such.
23:30But when we visited the area, the seas were rough, extremely rough,
23:36and there are some rocks in the area.
23:38Some little mishap would have gotten Justin into difficulty while swimming.
23:45And we resumed the search for him in the morning.
23:49We will resume only if the parents don't get anything tonight.
23:53Now, Mark, when we search, we search on the low tide.
23:57So it's highly impossible to search that area on the high tide
24:03because the water reaches to the base of the cliffs and we can't walk there.
24:07So we are doing these searches on the low tide as well.
24:11So those were the missing persons for January who are still outstanding in January 2025.
24:20All right. So we're just going to move to something a little bit unrelated, of course.
24:25Some very sad news, of course.
24:27Yesterday involving a murder-suicide in the hard-barging Gasparillo area.
24:35Yesterday where Michael Ram, 67, shot and killed his wife, Sunita Ram, age 56.
24:45That's Sunita there.
24:48And apparently after he turned the gun on himself.
24:53where the incident would have occurred in hard-barging Gasparillo yesterday.
24:59And I think that might have pushed the country's murder count to either 24 or 25.
25:06And what we also understand was that people who were also in the vicinity
25:13apparently had to run for their lives because he also fired shots at these other persons.
25:21I don't know what might have triggered.
25:24I don't know if you heard anything on your side through the police or what might have triggered that incident.
25:29Well, no, we don't have much information on this case.
25:33But what bothers me and I will say publicly is that the type of gun used in this scenario was a shotgun.
25:42Now shotguns are given to hunters for the purpose of recreational hunting.
25:47And I just want to remind hunters that the purpose of receiving a shotgun is strictly for the purposes of hunting.
25:57And it really disturbs me when a hunter could use his shotgun for the purpose of killing another person.
26:07This could have easily been a triple murder-suicide on our hands.
26:12Yes, a really sad situation there.
26:15And we send out the sympathies to the Ram family on this untimely passing of Mrs. Ram, of course, and her husband.
26:25All right, we're going to take a short break and we'll be back. Stay with us.
26:42New Charles chocolate with zero sugar added.
26:52Charles Gillsbury chocolate goodness.

29:21Welcome back to Beyond the Tape.
29:22I am your host Mark Bassan.
29:24by Captain Valence Rambarat of the hunters search and rescue team. Now over
29:29the last 24 to 48 hours of course there was a video circulating on social media
29:36involving a robbery at a supermarket in Tobago which involves of course somebody
29:43wearing camouflage entire camouflage uniform let's take a look
30:43So an individual walks into a supermarket in Tobago dressed in full army gear
30:51yeah camouflage and you know proceeded to rob the cashiers at the supermarket
30:59of cash we understand about $10,000 in cash and he makes no amends or no
31:05apologies telling everybody if they don't do what he does he will shoot
31:09everybody in here right just like the fact that everything that you have done
31:14there you are now being detained and you will have to take every charge that the
31:18police lay on you yes and towards the end of the video he casually asked he
31:23says I am taking a bottle of punch and I don't know if you pick up that right I
31:28actually missed that but I know that following the incident a police officer
31:33gave chase and he shot at the police officer who was injured in the elbow now
31:39police had initially said that this individual was support as that's very
31:46typically that he is supposedly a member of the Trinidad and Tobago regiment of
31:52course today the Trinidad and Tobago regiment issued a media release
31:58indicating that that person seen in the video clip is not a member of the
32:07Trinidad and Tobago regiment so I don't know if there was some kind of cross or
32:11misinformation between the police then and there that would have said certain
32:16things or we're not certain but they did confirm today in a media release sent
32:21out sometime during the course of the day that the person in that video is not
32:27a member of the Trinidad and Tobago regime right and there is a number of
32:32questions of course that we will we will talk about but I think we have a call on
32:36the line. Caller, good evening. Hello. Good evening caller, go ahead, you're live.
32:43A pleasant good evening. I would like for a member, a senior member of the military to confirm or let the members of the public know, tell us, if this person is or was a serving member of the military, right, because that is, that is very embarrassing.
32:58Right, as small as the salary may be, there are some persons who don't have anything at all, right, and some of us,
33:05some of us want to live above our means and to see those two young ladies there, and as we've all been talking about these things for the longest time, where there's no protection.
33:15These business places, there's no protection around the cashier, it's just an open space, so it's very, look where the cashiers are to where the door is.
33:24One, two, I would like to share my disgust as it relates to the Coast Guard and that missing vessel with the bodies.
33:33How come, I don't understand that, if you're talking, if you're pulling a boat, remember, this is, these are bodies, dead bodies that were on that boat.
33:41How come you didn't have a backup vessel, a vessel to the back of that one that is pulling?
33:46You know, it's very strange and I would like a full investigation. I'm very sure one will happen.
33:51One, there will be an investigation, but it's very strange and I believe that those officers were very negligent in their duty.
33:59Thank you very much and great job, great program. Thank you.
34:02Thanks a lot, Carla, and if you would, just before you made the call, I did say that the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment sent out a media release today,
34:11indicating that the person in that video is not a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment,
34:18so those claims that were made or whatever would have circulated, he's not a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment.
34:27And on the second issue of the Coast Guard matter involving the boats, of course, there was also questions raised about why there was not an accompaniment,
34:38perhaps of air support in some measure, and the problem sometimes is that things like this will happen,
34:47but the accountability, when you ask questions to the various bodies, they either refuse to answer or they give you a very laconic or short response to your questions.
35:00And I think they need to be held accountable, right? Mark, yesterday while we were in Palo Seco, I spotted the National Guard aircraft.
35:11It was too soon after the drowning to assume that they were searching for Justin Thomas, and so I linked that to the missing or the sunken vessel,
35:22because I think they were doing some aerial sweeps just to try and see if they could have spotted the vessel.
35:29But another issue, I don't want to defend the Coast Guard, but because we have some maritime experience, the seas were extremely rough.
35:39The tow line was attached to that boat, and it's either of two things. It's either the tow line broke the boat in half, or the tow line snapped because it was of inadequate strength to tow that boat in.
35:55But the seas were extremely rough yesterday, and I could understand the technicalities and how difficult it would have been to actually get onto the boat to attach the tow line.
36:08It would have been extremely risky.
36:10Yeah, and based on information, I actually got a lot of the images and so on, long before it actually hit social media from somebody working in a very elite unit.
36:20And he was telling me that based on information, of course, we know that it's likely a boat that drifted from Africa with these five unaccounted or unidentified bodies on it.
36:34And based on reporting, also reading in newspapers today, we had a similar incident when we found the boats in Tobago, and I don't think they were able to identify the bodies.
36:46One was identified, and his remains were buried in Trinidad.
36:51Yes.
36:52Yeah, and I don't think they would have just been, what, five persons on board as the boat moved and drifted.
36:59They would have tossed these decomposing bodies overboard.
37:03But I think the effort to retrieve the boat is so sad that we were not able to retrieve the boat.
37:14All right, we're going to take a short break, and we'll be back after this with your quotes. Stay with us.
37:22What you staring at all day on that thing, Susan?
37:35I've been looking into solar power options and learning plenty, too.
37:40Boy, you making joke. When it rains, tell me how solar power will work.
37:45Moms, it working day and night. It working rain or shine.
37:48Solar power batteries working all the time.
37:51But it probably expensive.
37:53No, mom, you're wrong. When people bill going up, my bill going down.
37:58Free electricity straight from the sun.
38:00Solar power to the people.
38:04The moment my children came into my life, I do everything I can for them to live healthy, enjoyable lives.

41:52Welcome to Beyond the Tape.
41:53I am Mark Basan joining today by Captain Valens Rambarat from the Hunter Search and
41:54Rescue Team.
41:55I think we have a call on the line.
41:56Good evening.
41:57Good evening Mr Basan and a very good evening to Mr Rambarat from the rescue and search
41:58Good evening to Mr. Rambara from the Rescue on Switch organization.
42:04I want to personally thank you, Anna, on my extension.
42:10You are doing that for the human service.
42:12Your organization has been doing fortunate other people.
42:19I think we, as a country, have to find some way of beginning up.
42:25I don't want to say anything further, but I have, if it was me, I know what I've done.
42:30But you brought to my attention, and this is probably not what you meant, but this is
42:38what I'm seeing, deficiency in the Coast Guard.
42:42And I'm going to put a big question mark there, and I want to extrapolate that into
42:47other deficiencies we have in Trinidad with respect to marine activity.
42:54I'm going to go back to the Parry Act, four deaths.
42:58We had a lot of money spent on a commission and inquiry, and a lot of things came out
43:06of that.
43:07I don't know where we are, and I'm going to juxtapose that to the death of the gentleman
43:14on the platform, Well Services, but to be something, we still cannot recover that body.
43:26Now, first point I want to say, the fact that we had a commission of inquiry into the Parry
43:34Act, and we ended up with another death for the activity in the Well Services Company,
43:42I want to ask the question, where are our authorities in making sure we have preventive
43:49action, we have contingency, we have health and safety protocols?
43:53Because to have an operation like that, and you can't recover a body after 35 days, that
43:58organization should not exist, and they're supposed to close down that.
44:03Because they told me, it tells me the management of that company has to stand the ultimate
44:12responsibility for that thing, because if they had proper health and safety, they would
44:17have had a plan of action to recover that.
44:20The fact that they say it's corrupt and they can't do nothing else, and it's all over the
44:25place, tells me they don't know what they're doing.
44:28Now let's get back to the Coast Guard.
44:31You have two scenarios there, the boat breaking up, and the two lines shattering.
44:39I'm hearing from the Minister of National Security, indicating that the boat has broken
44:45up and it sank, but that is such a forfeit idea, you know why?
44:51If the boat broke up, it's supposed to be attached to the, a part of it to the two line,
44:57so all he has to do is to give us a photo of that, and I more believe that it is the
45:04two line that, as Mr. Ramaratne said, the load on it is such that they shatter.
45:10You know what is in my back of mind?
45:13They say a dead body is coming from some part of Africa.
45:18We have lots of nefarious activities.
45:23What cargo other than the human being was on that?
45:27And are we sure it was coming from Africa?
45:29That is the question I want.
45:31Have we got those things happening here to find a big drama, or in some way, are we sure
45:35to deflect?
45:36Have a nice evening.
45:39Well, we were having a discussion, Kola, but let me just say, based on what the Coast Guard
45:44said, and I'm reading here from a release that they sent out yesterday in the Express
45:48newspaper, it was a patrol boat that went to do that retrieval, and they said that the
45:54two lines separated from the vessel.
45:56Now, Captain Ramaratne and I were having a discussion during the break that speaks to
46:03if the two line, this is a patrol boat, so it's not a small interceptor vessel.
46:07It is a patrol boat.
46:08It's a much larger vessel.
46:11Yes?
46:11So you have a two line that is attached to that small pirogue, if you want to call it
46:17that, which about 16 people could fit in it.
46:20And it stands to reason, and Captain Ramaratne said that the two line, maybe because of the,
46:28I don't know, the rigidity of the two line, and as it started to pull the vessel on the
46:35rough waters, because they did say that there was some really rough waters yesterday in
46:42the Atlantic Ocean, and they say that the two line separated from the vessel.
46:47So it's either two things.
46:49Was the two line so attached that when it pulled, it virtually shattered the wooden
46:55structure of the boat, or was it that the two line in itself was faulty and detached
47:02from the actual patrol vessel?
47:05They don't say exactly what, they tell you what happened, but they don't give an explanation.
47:09An explanation.
47:10Why and how it might have happened.
47:13So it's a question of physics.
47:14We know the power of the vessel.
47:16We know the strength of the two line.
47:18The invariable here is really the weight of the boat and what force was necessary.
47:25Then you have to add to that the rough seas, so that the Coast Guard, I feel, is sometimes
47:32a cloistered organization, and I have problems with them as well with respect to accounting
47:37for their operations in search and rescue.
47:41Mark, I could understand national security issues.
47:45What I cannot understand is search and rescue operations.
47:49Remember, we have a guy outstanding from Tobago, Roxborough, a missing fisherman.
47:54We cannot up to now know how many aerial sweeps were done and how many attempts to conduct
48:01patrols were made in that area to look for that gentleman.
48:04And if we could get that information, we could say, listen, we all tried our best for the
48:10family of that missing fisherman.
48:12So here it is, and they may know they were there, and therefore they owe the country
48:20a proper explanation to this incident.
48:22This is a time, perhaps, for the chief of defense staff, who I'm sure might be listening,
48:27to perhaps shed some light on that incident.
48:32But on a more upbeat note, I know that you guys had some training with fire officers
48:37over the weekend.
48:39So one of the things, and we're proud of the fact that the Trinidad and Tobago Fire
48:43Services sought our assistance to train 20 firemen in wilderness risk management.
48:52Now, entering our forest in Trinidad and Tobago is not something for the faint-hearted, and
48:59you should not just enter our forest without any safety or knowledge about what lies in.
49:06We did 13 risk management issues on this walk to Point Anglia's mud volcano in Palo
49:14Seco on Sunday.
49:16On Saturday, we took the entire day to prepare the entire trail and to put down the risks
49:24involved.
49:24Simple things like crossing a log in the forest, you have to know how to navigate that.
49:30What you do when you encounter hunters, and we had an actual hunter on a scaffolding,
49:36how you manage slippery slopes and riverbanks, and Mark, how to manage trap guns.
49:44We had a simulated exercise with a prototype trap gun set up, and the first fire officer
49:51was able to trigger the device, which meant that he would have been hurt if it was a
50:00real-life scenario.
50:02At the end of this, this is where we got to the Point Anglia's mud volcano, a pretty large
50:09mud volcano, and the members there, the firemen, were in trouble to see it.
50:16But on our way back, we simulated a rescue operation where we heard someone calling out
50:23into the forest for help.
50:25When we encountered him, he had a broken leg and a broken arm, and we fixed him up.
50:30We improvised materials, and we were able to ask the firemen to bring him out, again,
50:36simulating an ambulance at the end of the exercise.
50:39But it was worth the effort, and we're really proud of the fact that the fire services had
50:45reached out to us to do this training.
50:47Just to wrap up, anybody who wants to get this type of training, just call 799-1453.
50:54All right, we're going to take a short break, and we'll be back.
50:56Stay with us.

54:14Welcome back to Beyond the Tape, I'm your host Marc Bessin,
54:16joined today by Captain Valence Ramarat of the Hunter's Search and Rescue Team.
54:20We wanted to take you quickly to an accident in East Trinidad that I believe happened in the last 24 hours.
54:29It seems that this is on the bus route or crossing the vehicle.
54:34I don't know what's the particulars, of course, but you know who was right or wrong,
54:40but two vehicles involved in the collision,
54:44an SUV and a black vehicle, that seemed to be really...
54:50Yeah, we're seeing images of accidents plastered across social media and I'm seeing the figures,
54:58but I believe there is an increase and I know you continue to point out the fact that pedestrians
55:05are involved in some of these motor vehicle accidents,
55:10but we urge our users on our roads to be very, very cautious and careful.
55:16Yeah, because there was also another accident I think today on the highway heading southbound
55:24along the Uriah Butler Highway before Chagonas where I saw some video of two cars in the median
55:32between the lanes. One probably hit the railing on the other side. They didn't lay down,
55:37they haven't laid down railings on this particular side yet, so one of the vehicles was in the middle
55:43of the grassy area, the median, and the other one was a little way off of it. So, you know,
55:50you have to proceed with caution, you know, with roadworks going on around that Chagonas area,
55:55they say they are 70 percent done. Yeah. And it's, you know, you always have to proceed there
56:01with caution. Even up to yesterday I was heading down to Central and there was traffic just before
56:06Chagonas proper because they were cutting some trees, they were doing some cleaning of the clock
56:11in the middle of the median there, so everybody was stuck in traffic for about three to five
56:17minutes before it got clear there and then you still have to proceed with caution. We're seeing
56:22a lot of spills in the median which means that people are getting themselves in problems while
56:28driving and it's causing a tremendous amount of traffic on all roads. Yeah, well, just have a
56:36couple of minutes left. Yeah, I just want to update you all. I did ask for the public's
56:42assistance in locating Emily Ramke-Soon. I've just been informed by our team that
56:47she was safely located, so it's nice to have Emily back home. If you have any issues with missing
56:54persons in Trinidad and Tobago, please call 799-1453. On the other end of the phone you
57:01will get a help in air and we can assist you in locating your missing loved ones. Right, producer,
57:07I don't know if you have the photo of Emily Ramke-Soon there that we would have shown earlier
57:13on in the show, but you know, just to let you guys know that she was found. There she is and we're
57:19happy to report that she's back with her family now. Yeah, so she's back with her family and we
57:25are thankful for a very happy ending to that matter. Very happy ending and we're still seeking a happy
57:31ending from America Harry. Well, we are certain that aunts and associates will be the ones to
57:38assist the police in this particular investigation and we are hopeful that
57:42you are cooperative and you give the police your undivided attention and trying to secure, you know,
57:50this Harry's return to her family. And we do have the assistance of the police in both Pinar and Barako.
57:57All right, we're gonna have to leave it there. Remember, we run tonight at 11 30.
58:02We run tomorrow at 11 o'clock. The TV6 News is up next. Stay with us.
