The West Indies are hoping to finally end their three-decade Test drought in New Zealand.

And despite managing just one win in the white-ball leg of the tour, head coach Daren Sammy insists his players have arrived with one intention, to win.

00:00It's been 30 years since the West Indies last won a test match in New Zealand.
00:05Tours to the Black Caps have always been a challenge for the Caribbean men,
00:08and it will certainly be again, especially missing two of their faster and more experienced bowlers.
00:14Despite the challenge, head coach Darren Sami is adamant about what they're there to do.
00:19Obviously to win, we come here to win, and like I said earlier, to win you must compete.
00:25And winning has some characteristics that you need to have in order to be able to win.
00:33Performance is one of that.
00:36Well, good performances, you know, you need from everyone on board.
00:43Understanding the threat that New Zealand posts at home, like we said,
00:48it's the reason why we've not won here for a long time, but it's not impossible.
00:51And that's the mission, that's the word I'm going to drive with the men.
00:56Preparation, backed by attitude and mentality, could create performance.
01:01And that's what we're trying to do.
01:02The former captain shared some of the keys to success in the test series.
01:06I thought the difference in the games we've played so far has been the new ball.
01:13The new ball, we challenge them with the new ball, and they challenge us even more with the new ball.
01:20So, as a batting group, we must be able to force the new ball, force a second new ball.
01:26You're doing that in any test match cricket.
01:31You set a platform.
01:33You know, getting that big first inning score is also important.
01:37So, you're not catching or trying to catch the eight ball in the second inning.
01:42So, a big first inning score is important.
01:44And with the ball, you must be able to take 20 wickets.
01:47That's the first objective, and trusting the process.
01:51New Zealand welcomes back Daryl Mitchell to their test squad and will also be boosted by the presence of veteran Kane Williamson.
01:58And Sami says they have plans not only for the threat of Williamson.
02:02I mean, he's a quality player.
02:05You know, and these guys, you've got to be very diligent and precise on the plan, but most importantly, the execution.
02:15You know, and we're ready for the challenge.
02:19You know, I think he's going to be a top, top player.
02:24You know, scores in all conditions.
02:26But, you know, New Zealand, we're not going to focus on one person.
02:30We need to get 20 wickets.
02:32Kane Williamson is only one.
02:35We need 19 more in order to win the test match.
