Transcript
00:01The West Indies have won four consecutive bilateral ODI series at home.
00:05Their next assignment is against Sri Lanka in three one-day internationals, starting Wednesday in Jamaica.
00:11Windy skipper Shehope is pleased with his team's preparations, saying the focus is now on qualifying for the 2027 World
00:18Cup.
00:19There's always expectations. Whenever you want to play a series against a strong side, you want to be victorious.
00:25So the key is to say, sir, we're playing the best cricket we can and try to get as many
00:29wins as we possibly can.
00:30We understand the importance of that March deadline in 2027.
00:36So play good cricket and let's hopefully hope that the results take care of itself in the back end.
00:42Hope has faith that the West Indies batters can put runs on the board against the Asians.
00:46He says the team has been consistent for some years now in that department, as the men in Maroon eye
00:52a fifth straight series win at home.
00:54The way how we've been batting for the last year or two, probably even longer, with the top six, Barney,
01:01the opening pair every now and again, we've been pretty solid and consistent.
01:05Casey has been prolific in his number three position, Sherfane doing the same thing.
01:09So we've had a pretty strong top six in the last couple of years and the data has shown that
01:16we've improved in many areas, especially in the middle overs, when we usually face a lot of spin.
01:21And we've been finding ways to combat that. So I must commend the guys on that front.
01:25He says the bowlers have also been exceptional, with a lot of emphasis being placed on Jaden Seals, who wreaked
01:32havoc against Pakistan last year in Terubah.
01:34Regarding the skipper himself, he just wants to give it his all in order for the team to be successful.
01:40Contribute wherever I can. Like I always say, even if I have to bowl, I'm going to try to do
01:45so the best of my ability.
01:48But yeah, it's just about being as consistent as I can be. The prep has been done.
01:53So it's not all about crossing that line and executing the best way I can and as we can as
01:58a unit.
01:59Again, just trying to leave from the front in all departments who have called upon.
02:04The second and third ODI matches also take place at Sabina Park on June 6th and the 8th.
02:11Vinod Nowani, Chiefs Export.
