00:00Despite the best efforts to make this a joyous season, there's a certain darkness
00:10that is hanging over the nation and lingering persistently in certain
00:18corners of our society. We've passed the grim milestone of 600 murders in the
00:27country. Tobago has seen its record high rate of now 26 murders. Mr. George said
00:39the crime situation in the country is appalling and the authorities need to do
00:44some introspection as 2025 approaches. His call comes as 21-year-old Zachary
00:51Lindo was shot dead in Bacolet by gunmen. He would have celebrated his 22nd
00:57birthday on Boxing Day. These statistics are appalling and galling and we of the
01:06Tobago Business Chamber continue to pledge our support for the TTPS and the
01:15executive of the THA and the central government of the country in the efforts
01:22against crime. But we ask at this Christmas time that there be some sober
01:29mature rational introspection by our leaders in government, our leaders in
01:40national security, our leaders in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and
01:46ask yourselves are you really getting the job done? George said the Ministry of
01:54National Security needs to take a frontal approach where crime is
01:58concerned, stop politicizing crime and to stop the blame game. We urge our leaders
02:06in the TTPS, in the Ministry of National Security and in the government for the
02:12new year 2025. You cannot keep doing the same things and expecting different
02:21results. If changes need to be made then let's be honest enough and forthright
02:28enough and transparent enough to make those changes. If we have to bite the
02:34bullet to say look let heads roll then let's do so and let's stop with the
02:40politicking of crime and making it a political football and the endless blame
02:47game and finger pointing. He said the fabric of the nation is being torn apart
02:52in this bloody mayhem. Elizabeth Williams, TV six News.
