Businesswoman Janet Parks is worried about the escalating crime situation in Tobago and is tonight calling out the State and the THA for contributing to the problem. In fact, through the group, Mobalise Tobago, a church service, motorcade and mass rally are planned in collaboration with eleven churches across Tobago on Friday, to highlight the situation.

The partnership of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is also engaged. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00 We're really using this as well to call on the authorities that all the business sector,
00:05 I'm not going to call it a name, they know themselves very well,
00:07 they need to understand that they're part of the problem because if they're not paying people in a timely manner
00:13 then they are pushing people to do the unscrupulous. As business owners, we will continue to
00:20 exercise integrity and do what is right and so on.
00:23 But at the end of the day, people want to live. People have their children to feed,
00:29 people have their lives, their bills to be paid and so on. So that's why it's a collective effort.
00:34 It's not just a one-man show.
00:35 Businesswoman Janet Parks told TV6 News that the crime situation in Tobago has come at a cost to her,
00:43 causing her to increase security as times have changed.
00:46 She said she beefed up security flowing following robberies reported on Monday and Tuesday of this week in Tobago.
00:54 The persons who enter my business place, I scope them out
00:57 in terms of the physical assets of the place to make sure they're secured.
01:01 I speak to my staff regularly in terms of their own personal safety, coming to work, going home and so on, to be observant, people at your door.
01:08 So it's just not business as usual.
01:11 Mrs. Parks said increased security measures in Tobago remain paramount.
01:17 As a businesswoman, it has put us under tremendous pressure as well because while we have security systems and so on,
01:22 obviously we have to revisit everything to make sure that all areas are covered, you know, but
01:28 whether it's covered or not, I am covered. I believe in God and but you can't be foolish as a Christian.
01:34 You have to be wise in these times, Liz. So it's very, very frustrating for us.
01:39 Saying it's time to fight back,
01:41 she says Mobilize Tobago will on Friday hold a massive church service motorcade and rally under the theme
01:48 "Come Out, Let's Restore Tobago," an island-wide call for prayer and solutions,
01:54 partnering with the TTBS. So we also are having a mass rally where we're going to share
02:00 different presentations with the population,
02:02 personal security, community safety,
02:05 providing alternatives. So we have invited some NGOs to come, like the Life at the Crossroads program,
02:12 there's a program in the high schools, moral education, to show youths in particular that there's an alternative
02:18 to crime. So the police shoot clubs and so on will be there, you know, so it's a holistic approach.
02:24 Mrs. Parks said the church must be more engaged in our communities so that they can make a difference.
02:30 Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
