00:00Chairman of the Tobago Arm of the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Curtis Williams, told TV6 News there are some instances of crime that are of concern to the Chamber.
00:13We want to ask now upon the ACP, the new ACP and his team, listen to me, we need to keep the space safe. You do what you have to do. Get the resources on island.
00:23I don't know whether it's white shirt, blue shirt or black shirt. You just get the resources on the island to keep our visitors and community safe throughout this period and going all the way to Christmas.
00:34We see the one and two little incident happening. It's a bit concerning for us, but we know that the ACP assured us that his team is on the ground and they're going to bear fruit. So we're looking forward to that.
00:47The chamber chairman said visitors are looking forward to straight flights via the air bridge from the United States and Canada to Tobago.
00:56So I've seen we did some international advertisement. I saw these on Facebook and other social media and looks really, really good.
01:05My folks call me from New York. They're all excited to come down. They were hoping that a flight could come straight from New York to Tobago and also Canada.
01:13Mr. Williams is calling on Caribbean Airlines to advertise the availability of flights in a more predictable manner.
01:20So we still have in conversation with Carl. We know at the end of it, Carl always tell us there are empty seats. You know, they will always give that report about empty seats.
01:29So we asked him, Carl, just don't put the flights off on in quietness, but at least advertises a bit to say that you're putting on additional five flights for the for the season and coming up to the carnival.
01:41So that we and our friends and family visitors can take full advantage of the opportunity to come across to be going to enjoy the carnival.
01:49He said the accommodation sector is doing well in terms of bookings to Tobago.
01:55We spoke to the villa renters. The villas are 95 percent filled. The small hotels are 100 percent filled. It's just the larger properties are the ones that have space at the moment.
02:06So we are asking all the folks who want to come across, all the visitors and friends, please come across to the carnival. We still have some space.
02:12I know there's a bit of challenge in the air bridge. And as we can see, we want the additional flights. As soon as these flights go into the system, they are all taken up.
02:21Yes, it's excitement for everyone. The sea bridge is available. There's still space on the sea bridge.
02:27Meantime, he is calling on some stakeholders to stop the dependency syndrome with respect to funding from the THC.
02:36And I see coming out from the interview I did yesterday with Mr. Cohn, that he had the corporate given two point five million dollars in sponsorship.
02:44And that is what we want the Tobago Carnival Committee to look forward to, to corporate and business sponsorship.
02:51And we're not going to depend on the THC. Whatever the THC may do through the festival committee, that may aid in marketing, et cetera.
02:59But we want the private sector to take this carnival and move with it.
