00:00And with over $42 million in drugs, guns and ammunition found along Pigeon Point Beach
00:08in Tobago, senior officers during a media conference on Tuesday told members of the
00:14media all efforts will be made to treat with the crime situation in Tobago.
00:20During a media conference on Tuesday, Senior Superintendent of Police Earl Eli said an
00:25intelligence-led anti-crime operation involving officers of the Tobago Divisional Task Force
00:31assisted in the biggest drug bust in the history of Tobago.
00:35What we are here witnessing today is a result of painstaking inquiries and investigation
00:43and also painstaking surveillance work which was done by members of the Tobago Divisional
00:48Task Force during the hours of yesterday daylight into last night.
00:55The result of that operation would be what you are seeing here, which could be dubbed
01:02one of the largest narcotic hauls in the history of Tobago.
01:07During the exercise, the officers intercepted a white and blue pirogue with two male occupants.
01:13A search of the vessel resulted in the discovery of 231.7 kilograms of marijuana, 13 kilograms
01:21of cocaine, one Beretta M12 pistol, three Beretta M12 magazines, one Glock 17 pistol
01:29fitted with a magazine, one Glock 19 pistol fitted with a magazine, and 167 rounds of
01:37assorted ammunition.
01:39The drugs have an estimated street value of $42,214,350.
01:48Intelligence suggests to us that this shipment was not destined for Tobago.
01:53As a matter of fact, the destination would have been, should have been, another Caribbean
02:02island in which those two gentlemen, based on intelligence, would have previously, as
02:08a matter of fact, recently been released from serving three years imprisonment for similar
02:14offenses.
02:15Officer Eli said criminal elements in Trinidad are joining forces with criminal elements
02:21in Tobago to commit crime on the island.
02:24Not just in the narcotic trade, but in all the other offenses, from robberies, the larcenies,
02:30and all the other offenses, we are seeing that combination of Trinidadians and Tobagoians
02:34working.
02:35In fact, the majority of crimes for the last, that were detected for the last month would
02:41have included Trinidadians.
02:43And to would-be criminals, Officer Eli is warning them to stay out of Tobago.
02:48Well, Tobago is no longer a safe haven for you, right?
02:51Tobago is no longer a safe haven for you.
02:54First of all, I would like to ask you all to stop committing crime.
02:58Yeah?
02:59Stop committing crime.
03:00And most importantly, don't commit crime in Tobago, right?
03:05Those persons who are hell-bent on committing those offenses, I'm saying it openly, you
03:09are not welcome in Tobago, right?
03:12Stay where you are, right?
03:14You are not welcome in Tobago.
03:16Once you come here and we get the evidence, we will treat you.
