The contentious radar installed by the US government in Tobago has been instrumental according to Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro in helping law enforcement intercept a huge drug haul worth one hundred and seventy one million dollars in Colombian creepy marijuana overnight.

00:00This was the $171 million haul of Colombian creepy marijuana
00:05discovered by several specialized units of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
00:09during an overnight operation in the Cairni Swamp.
00:13The find credited by Commissioner of Police Alistair Guevara
00:15to the newly installed radar system by the U.S. in Tobago
00:19that has drawn criticism from opposing political parties on the Sister Isle.
00:23The haul of 1,560 kilograms was taken by boat to the Chagaramas area
00:28where it was offloaded.
00:30Commissioner of Police Alistair Guevara, while acknowledging the hard work of the various units
00:35said there was very little he could share with the public on the optics of the exercise.
00:39And behind me is the culmination of that successful exercise.
00:45And what I am pleased to announce is the first successful operation
00:49utilizing the newly installed radar system.
00:53So, Trinidad and Tobago, I will not be able to give you much information about the technology
00:57nor the nature of the operations
00:59but rather show you the success that came from that operation
01:03and this was found at the Cairni River.
01:09Alright, so that is all I will be able to share with you at this point in time.

01:18and while he was thankful for the work of the TTPS
01:20he said he was also extremely grateful for the help of the U.S. government
01:24in this fight against the narco trafficking trade.
01:27It speaks to police officers, motivated police officers
01:32police officers willing to go to the extra mile
01:34because I understand what took place here according to the operation
01:37and we also want to thank our foreign counterparts
01:41who saw it fit with the application coming from the Prime Minister
01:47to provide us with some technology
01:50that we are able to implement now for success.
01:54Inspector Ronnie Rampelard from the Coastal and Air Support Unit of the TTPS
01:59who spearheaded the operation from above
02:01said the terrain was especially challenging for the officers working in the dark
02:05but they were able to adapt.
02:07These efforts sometimes go unnoticed
02:10but I can tell you from being there on the ground
02:12it was extremely harsh terrain, hostile territory
02:16and you know, the men and women who took part in this exercise
02:19I want to applaud them for the human service that was presented here today.
02:24Commissioner Guevara in ending warned all criminals involved in the drug trade to desist
02:28and he gave the assurance that those that don't listen
02:32will feel the full brunt of the law.
