01 October - National weather forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast. It stays mixed over the coming days,
00:06in fact week ahead as at least initially low pressure dominates the weather pattern. A
00:11large area of low pressure sat to the north-west of the UK, weather fronts draped over the
00:16UK bringing outbreaks of rain at times. And if we move the sequence on, we'll see further
00:20systems moving across as we move through the week and then a ridge of high pressure builds
00:25in from the south, allowing some dry weather here but further outbreaks of heavy rain are
00:29likely, particularly towards the end of the week across the north-west of the UK. But
00:33at the same time, this then starts to draw in some warm if not very warm air from the
00:38south-west towards the end of the week and into next weekend with temperatures likely
00:43to be well above average for the time of year. So back to the evening time this Sunday, a
00:49lot of cloud across parts of England and Wales, some drizzle in there, perhaps some mist and
00:54murk developing as we move into the early hours. Clearer skies further north, Northern
00:58Ireland, Northern England, Scotland seeing some clear spells with a scattering of showers,
01:03the winds just starting to pick up across north-west Scotland could bring some heavier
01:07showers in here by the end of the night. And temperatures where we have the clearest skies
01:12dipping just about in two single figures, so a fresh night here. But under the cloud
01:16patchy rain further south, 13 to 16 Celsius to take us into Monday morning. So quite a
01:23grey picture, particularly across southern counties of England and Wales, some drizzle
01:27in places too. Elsewhere generally quite bright, though sunshine hazy at times, a mixture of
01:32sunny spells and showers into the afternoon for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England.
01:36But generally much of England and Wales a cloudy picture, some outbreaks of rain developing
01:41which could be heavy at times later on in the day. We could just see a few glimmers
01:45of sunshine, particularly towards the far south-east and this will help lift temperatures
01:50around 22 or 23 Celsius, so quite a muggy feel. A little fresher further north, temperatures
01:55here 16 or 17 Celsius. On the evening time we'll continue to see further rain across
02:02England and Wales, particularly in the east it will be heavy at times, could lead to some
02:05local travel disruption. The odd rumble of thunder is possible and then that slowly pushes
02:10south-eastwards into the early hours. Elsewhere generally a mixture of clear spells and showers
02:16and temperatures similar once again 9 to 13 Celsius, 14 or 15 under the cloud and rain
02:23across the south-east. That will be with us Tuesday morning but it won't be long before
02:27this pulls away and then it's a bright day for everyone on Tuesday. A mixture of sunny
02:32spells and scattered showers. Showers most frequent across the northern half of the UK,
02:37some of these could be heavy at times, being blown in on quite a brisk westerly breeze,
02:42turning drier across central and south-eastern areas, sunny spells here. And for everyone
02:47on Tuesday, a fresher feeling day, generally temperatures 15 to 20 Celsius, so actually
02:53still just above average for the time of year. Then as we move forward into the middle of the
02:59week onwards, we'll see high pressure building in across southern parts of the UK, giving some
03:04drier interludes but further rain is expected across the north and the west. Rainfall totals
03:09building up particularly across western Scotland and then the potential of some
03:13very warm weather arriving as we head towards the weekend. I'll see you again soon.
