This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the week ahead 30/03/2026. A mostly fine few days and feeling warmer compared with the weekend. However, ill-timed changes are expected with the weather as the long weekend begins. Bringing you this week’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hi there and welcome to the latest Met Office week ahead forecast.
00:03And it looks like a mostly fine week, that is, until the two bank holidays make an appearance.
00:10More on that in a moment.
00:12First this week we've got high pressure nearby to the south-west, switching the winds from
00:16the chilly north-westerlies that we experienced at the weekend to flow from the mid-Atlantic,
00:21a milder air source in other words, and we're in between a warm front and a cold front, warm
00:27sector conditions, but with this mild Atlantic air brings a lot of moisture, a lot of cloud
00:32cover across the UK, some breaks in the east and north-east, but otherwise it's mostly
00:37grey skies, the clouds thick enough in places to give some light showers, just about anywhere
00:42prone to these.
00:43They'll be most frequent, however, across western Scotland, northern parts of Northern
00:46Ireland.
00:47Not amounting to a great deal, but grey and damp in places nevertheless.
00:53However, it is going to feel less cold.
00:57Now where we get some breaks in the cloud to the east, temperatures up to 16-17 Celsius
01:03could get an isolated 18 Celsius, otherwise we're looking at generally 13-14 degrees,
01:09a few degrees up compared with where we're at the weekend.
01:13Wednesday starts off similar, generally frost free, a lot of cloud cover, a better chance
01:17early in the day of some cloud breaks across parts of centre and eastern England.
01:21But for Scotland and Northern Ireland, the cloud turns thicker, the breeze starts to increase
01:27and heavier.
01:28More persistent rain starts to move in, especially for central and northern Scotland, that falling
01:33is snow over the hills and mountains of Scotland generally above 400-500 metres.
01:39Ahead of that, it stays mild but not quite as mild as Tuesday, 15 or 16 Celsius.
01:45This front that's bringing the persistent rain and hill snow to northern parts of the UK,
01:49well that topples south-eastwards overnight and behind it we've got colder air returning
01:55once again from a north-westerly direction.
01:58And so there will be a touch of frost first thing across northern and western parts of
02:01the UK.
02:02That's where the clearer skies will be the best chance of some brighter weather first thing,
02:05a marked contrast to Tuesday and Wednesday.
02:07We keep sunny spells into the afternoon in many places but cloud will begin to fill in.
02:12A few showers down the east coast first thing, then it turns drier for many.
02:16It will feel fresher once again, 11 or 12 Celsius in the south, 7 to 8 further north.
02:23And then by the end of the afternoon, another spell of wet weather moves into western Scotland
02:27and Northern Ireland again with some snow over Scotland's hills and mountains.
02:31Speaking of cold air, we do have a cold plunge midweek on the other side of the Atlantic through
02:37the Davis strakes in this deep blue colour emerging.
02:41And that will come up against mild air across the mid-Atlantic, strengthening the temperature
02:46contrast and as a result firing up the jet stream.
02:48The jet stream becomes active and shifted a bit further south compared with earlier in
02:52the week.
02:52That then in turn picking up a weather front and turning it into a fairly deep low for Good
02:58Friday and it looks like that low will pass northern parts of the UK, most likely on
03:03a track across northern Scotland.
03:05So Good Friday increasingly turns wet and windy from the word go, perhaps dry at first in
03:10the south east, but spells of rain soon arrive across the UK.
03:14Heaviest are most persistent in the north and northwest.
03:17The winds really strengthening through the day, most likely peaking during the second half
03:22of Good Friday.
03:23And gales expected widely across the north and the west with the risk of the strongest
03:28winds.
03:29The north and northwest of Scotland, 60, perhaps 70 mile per hour wind gusts, but a lot hinges
03:35on the depth of the low and its precise track will firm up on the details over the next few
03:40days.
03:41But it looks likely that low pressure will be in charge as we end the week, bringing
03:45smells of rain, increasingly strong winds in many places.
03:48Not the nicest start to the bank holiday weekend.
03:52And it doesn't improve much during the rest of the weekend because the jet stream remains
03:57in charge.
03:58It's likely to pick up further weather systems from the west.
04:02Uncertainty on the exact details of how these systems will be picked up and deepened and
04:06their track they'll take.
04:07But it looks likely that on Saturday, Easter day and Easter Monday we'll see changeable
04:12weather.
04:13Not raining all the time.
04:14It won't be windy either all the time, but it's likely that the weather will be chopping
04:19and changing from rain to showers and it will often be very blustery.
04:24So we'll keep you updated on all of that, of course, with two important bank holidays
04:28coming up.
04:28But for now, make sure you subscribe to our YouTube so you never miss an update.
04:33Bye bye.
