00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05We have drier skies in the south and rain across the northwest pushing ever southwards and eastwards fairly slowly.
00:12Here's that weather front.
00:13Now the air was relatively mild yesterday.
00:16Today we hang on to some drier weather until later across the south.
00:20And this ridge of high pressure brings colder weather into Thursday with a frost.
00:24But into Good Friday and the weekend, it turns unsettled with rain and strong winds tracking in from the Atlantic.
00:34For the time being though, we do have some wet weather around.
00:37Orkney, Shetland, Caithness, seeing that rain just edging in here.
00:40Certainly the Western Isles, Western Fringes of Scotland, rain pushing in also across Northern Ireland.
00:46Cloud rolling ahead of it.
00:47Some clearer skies to start the day.
00:49Eastern Scotland for England and Wales, a mix of cloud as well as some clearer skies.
00:55But where the clouds thick enough, particularly down towards the West Country, perhaps Cumbria and Lancashire as well, you could
01:01see spits and spots of rain.
01:02The cloud will remain broken off and on through the day across England and Wales.
01:06So you will see some brighter weather, some brighter breaks coming through.
01:11This rain is associated with strong winds.
01:14So wet and windy weather arrives across Western and Central Scotland through the morning.
01:19Northern Ireland as well.
01:20A central belt then seeing that wet weather through the morning into the afternoon as it slowly slides down to
01:26Southern Scotland.
01:27But before clearing most of Northern Ireland by around mid-afternoon.
01:32But by this point, the Isle of Man, Cumbria and Lancashire seeing some outbreaks of rain.
01:37And spits and spots of rain can't be ruled out for Gwynedd as well as Anglesey.
01:41Now towards the north there, the winds are turned round to a northerly.
01:45So for places such as the Western Isles, Sutherland, Argyll and Butte, you'll see the highest temperatures earlier on in
01:53the day.
01:53By around mid-afternoon, they're falling away with that colder air streaming in.
01:59And a similar situation certainly for Northern Ireland as well, exposed to the winds along that north coast feeling particularly
02:05chilly.
02:06Ahead of this rain band, a fair amount of cloud, a few breaks still coming through.
02:11And then this rain here could be quite heavy in places.
02:14Still some mountain snow possible as it gradually clears towards more northern areas as we head into Wednesday afternoon and
02:22evening time.
02:23Ahead of the rain band, temperatures 13 or 14 Celsius, much colder behind.
02:28So through evening time, we watch as this rain clears the north as it slides down to Northern England as
02:34well as Wales.
02:35And it will tend to weaken all the while.
02:38One or two more moderate bursts for a time, but notice it's slowly becoming more fragmented as it clears Scotland.
02:45But still a keen breeze along this eastern side of Scotland and England into Thursday morning.
02:51Thursday morning will dawn cold for most though with some clearer skies.
02:56And look at these temperatures, a widespread frost for Scotland, Northern Ireland as well, the far north of England.
03:01And even further south, in Shelter, where we see those clearer skies, you could see a touch of frost and
03:08a cold wind along this eastern side where temperatures will hold up, even with one or two showers just filing
03:14in from the North Sea.
03:16But some hazy sunshine to start the day across western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:20Some fine weather elsewhere.
03:22Wrap up warm if you're stepping out first thing.
03:24It will be chilly.
03:25Through the morning, we gradually lose the wind along that east coast and also any showers.
03:31But further west, more in the way of clouds and also some rain just creeping in across more western parts
03:38of Northern Ireland through the afternoon, the Western Isles as well.
03:42Temperatures after a chilly one then coming in nine or ten across Scotland and Northern Ireland and struggling to ten,
03:48eleven, twelve, thirteen across England and Wales.
03:51But for most of the country, it's a dry end to the afternoon.
03:56But this band of cloud and rain here will gradually push in across the country as we lose Thursday and
04:02we gain a good Friday.
04:04And Friday, yes, will be with sporadic bursts of rain and showers to follow and the winds will be strong
04:10as well.
04:11So all in all, we are looking at some unsettled weather through the bank holiday weekend.
04:16Certainly on Thursday into Friday, we'll see that weather front clear first of all and then this one move in
04:23and track across the country.
04:24So some windy weather to come with rain, showers behind and then more wet and windy weather tracks in from
04:30the Atlantic through Saturday and into Easter day.
04:33The winds will be even stronger and the rain could be heavier.
04:36So stay tuned to the forecast. For more details of the weekend ahead, check out our deep dive that was
04:44issued yesterday with Alex Burkill.
04:46And today is the 10 day trend. I'll see you later.
