00:00It is being stated by some that the arrests of five men on Saturday during a
00:04COVID operation is linked to the thwarted drone drop at a Port of Spain
00:08prison in March. Deputy Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin tells TV6 News
00:13that a matter is being thoroughly investigated.
00:16So at this point in time we are unable to deny or even to say exactly whether or not it is
00:24connected to the prison but nevertheless we are going to be exploring all options
00:29and we are going to ensure that we leave absolutely no stone unturned.
00:34However DCP Benjamin confirms that connection to the drone drop is one of
00:39the possibilities being looked at in relation to the arrests. Furthermore he
00:44is giving an assurance that some of the best investigators are at present
00:48looking into the matter. During the drone drop a package was confiscated. It was
00:54later found to be containing 269 grams of plant-like material. Prisons
00:59Commissioner Deoposad Ramuta raised concerns over what he called regular
01:04drone incidents. As for the contents found in the vehicle including
01:09contraband and marijuana, nylon thread, a walkie-talkie and a drone we posed the
01:14question to the DCP. Is that something that you would you know find if you were
01:21to conduct an operation such as a drone drop?
01:24Well again when you look at the items probably you can certainly say that they seem connected to that drone drop or things of that nature but
01:35nevertheless we are with an open mind. We are going to look at the situation
01:41based on its merits. We're going to ensure that again when we look at the facts
01:45that it's the facts that must speak to us as to exactly what we go to the
01:50direction that we should supposed to be looking at. DCP Benjamin is praising the
01:55officers of the Northern Division for the work they did it that led to the
01:58arrests. He states that such efforts can help in solving a lot of the crimes that
02:04a country is facing. I want to commend them highly and just say that the police
02:08service is on a zero tolerance initiative and we are hoping as we
02:13continue in this drive that we're going to see more and more police visibility.
02:17We're going to solve some more crimes and we're going to see at the end that
02:21with the efforts of the officers that we will seek to fulfill one of our goals
02:26which is to see a great reduction in the serious crimes in Trinidad and Tobago.
