00:00Only an interim report has been received on the riot that broke out at the maximum security prison on the weekend,
00:08claiming the life of inmate Brent Batiste, so says prison's commissioner Carlos Carraspe.
00:14Speaking on the morning edition, he tells us the lockdown at the facility begun to ease as of yesterday.
00:21However, they are still monitoring reports of a planned escape, given the loaded firearm that was also discovered during a search.
00:32The harm and hurt that could cause the staff, the other inmates, and I dare say if it is used to facilitate an escape,
00:40then of course that brings a danger to the public and the national security landscape.
00:46So it is a matter of extreme concern to us.
00:50Commissioner Carraspe admits that drones are being used to bring items into the prison illegally.
00:57However, he is uncertain as to how the loaded gun was brought in.
01:02It is either through the unmanned aircraft, the drone as you spoke about, which we have,
01:09that is a significant challenge to our security landscape,
01:12and we continue to engage the national security ministry in terms of identifying the technological capabilities that are out there,
01:23to improving our ability to detect.
01:26He further notes that there are still rogue elements among the ranks, allowing the use of drones.
01:32So that we have seen that unlawful conduct has moved from the situation where the officer is actually bringing the item into the space,
01:40to where the officer is facilitating the inmates to access it.
