Police commissioner Allister Guevarro says an attack on one person in law enforcement, is an attack on all. His statement is in response to the attack on the prison officer in Piarco last night.

00:00In a media statement today, the police commissioner called the incident a reprehensible act of violence.
00:06He says the TTPS has approved a range of operational measures, which he did not disclose citing tactical reasons,
00:14but said they are treating the case with the utmost seriousness.
00:18Commissioner Guevara says anyone who chooses to confront law enforcement officers with violence
00:23will be met with proportionate and lawful force, as TTPS officers are well trained under the use of force policy to neutralize threats to life.
00:33He adds that they act not only with professionalism, but with resolve, and they do so with his full and unequivocal support.
00:41The police commissioner then urged all criminal elements to desist now, as the path they are on leads to only one end,
00:49and it is one that will not be in their favor.
00:51He says the TTPS will not retreat and they will not relent, saying he knows firsthand the burden of walking into danger,
01:00as he has faced the fire of a weapon drawn in hostility and had to defend himself and others.
01:07He says his comments and position comes from a place of lived experience and deep respect,
01:13and encouraged law enforcement personnel to remain vigilant and united.
