00:00A senior prison officer was one of three persons detained under the preventative detention order that was issued in a police exercise executed yesterday.
00:09It was the same senior prison officer that the Sunday Express had alluded to during an exclusive Sunday Express article entitled Judge DPP on Murder List on July 27th this year.
00:20The 50-year-old prison officer, along with a police corporal and another person, were held by officers of the Special Investigations Unit after conducting the exercise across Port of Spain, Northeastern and Northern Divisions.
00:33This was the first time since the preventative detention orders were issued that two law enforcement officers were detained under the Emergency Powers Regulations 2025.
00:44The exercises were confirmed in the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service media release.
00:48However, they did not mention that two of the detainees were law enforcement.
00:52The Sunday Express article had indicated that there was a long-standing involvement of this senior prison officer who had been linked to one of the incarcerated gang bosses.
01:00The two are said to have known each other before the officer joined the prison service with allegations that he had carried out favors for the gang leader over the years.
01:09TV6 News understands that within the last few weeks, the senior prison officer had been sent on leave before his detention.
01:16Sources say the reason for his detention may be linked to gang-related activities.
01:21However, sources say he is expected to challenge his PDO before the tribunal.
01:25He is currently being detained at the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitative Center.
01:29In the media release, Commissioner of Police Alistair Guevara commended the exercise, noting that it underscores the strength of the TTPS intelligence apparatus and its capacity to act decisively against those seeking to destabilize the country.
01:45Guevara confirmed the detention of the senior prison officer and said, quote,
01:48We will not bury our heads in the sand and deny that there are challenges in all arms of law enforcement.
01:55Yesterday, the country awoke to news that a police officer was arrested and placed on a PDO today.
02:01Today, it is a senior prison officer.
02:03Let this save us a clear warning.
02:06If you are part of the problem, tomorrow we may be coming for you, end quote.
