00:00 Hi there, welcome to the Met Office forecast for the weekend. The spring
00:04 equinox may have just occurred but the winds of winter return this weekend. It's
00:08 going to feel cold as this cold front crosses the country on Thursday and
00:12 into Friday morning. The winds switch to west north westerlies, low pressure close
00:17 to the north of Scotland bringing very strong winds here, gales in places and
00:20 the blue colours returning across the UK. So a very different feel to the weather
00:24 as we begin the weekend compared with recent days. It's gonna feel much colder
00:29 and gardeners beware, there will be a frost in places on Saturday morning.
00:32 Temperatures in main urban areas around 2 to 4 Celsius but I think in rural
00:38 spots out of the wind down to minus 1 or minus 2 degrees. As we go through
00:43 Saturday then we're going to see quite a lot of showers arrive on this west
00:47 northwesterly wind. The most frequent showers will be towards the west and the
00:51 northwest with the air cold enough for those showers to be falling as snow above
00:55 say 400-500 metres across northern England and Scotland. Some hail to lower
01:00 levels as well. These showers will be lively, they could affect just about
01:04 anyone by the afternoon. Perhaps the odd rumble of thunder as well in some of the
01:08 heavier downpours but it won't be raining all the time. There will be some
01:12 gaps in between the showers, some brighter in sluice however you'll notice
01:17 the difference in temperatures. Now in the north we've had temperatures close
01:20 to these values during recent days but in the south with temperatures of 17, 18
01:25 close to 19 Celsius this will feel like a significant drop and that wind's going
01:30 to feel cold. These are the feels like temperatures more like 4 to 6 Celsius
01:35 feeling more like winter. To quote Dickens it'll be one of those March days
01:40 where the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold. Top marks in the comments if
01:45 you can name the novel that quote comes from. But as we go into Saturday night
01:50 the wind starts to relent, the low pressure moving into the North Sea, the
01:55 ice bars beginning to open out especially towards the West, a ridge of
01:58 high pressure beginning to arrive only ahead of the next system though waiting
02:02 the wings for later Sunday. So a more settled day on Sunday but still the
02:07 chance of showers developing. Now it will be a frosty start once again, possibly
02:11 more frosty compared with Saturday morning because of the lighter winds
02:14 overnight and a greater chance of clear skies. By the afternoon the cloud fills
02:18 in and as you can see still some spots of blue there, still the potential for
02:22 some showers here and there particularly across central, northern and eastern
02:25 parts of the country. Best chance of drier spells for a time on Sunday will
02:29 be towards the West, some decent sunshine early on before the cloud builds later
02:32 and then the signs of that next frontal system arriving into the west of
02:36 Northern Ireland and the far southwest of Cornwall by the end of the afternoon.
02:40 But for most, well we avoid that rain until after dark. 12 to 13 Celsius in
02:47 the south and southwest, perhaps a little bit less chilly compared with Saturday.
02:50 Still that cold wind blowing down the North Sea coast though making it feel
02:54 once again like winter has arrived. Now that rain I mentioned in the West
02:59 crosses the country on Monday followed by further showers so low pressure still
03:03 well and truly in charge at the start of next week.
