00:00Hi there.
00:01This time last week, temperatures were over 30 degrees Celsius in some spots, but the
00:05late May heat wave is a distant memory now for many.
00:08And if you have a look at the bigger picture from space, we can see an area of cloud approaching
00:12for tomorrow, this one here.
00:14And this swirl of cloud here is associated with quite a deep area of low pressure for
00:18the time of year.
00:19And those closely packed isobars are really bringing some quite unseasonably strong winds
00:23to the southwest of England and along the south coast this morning.
00:26But we've also got quite a bit of rain as the radar shows.
00:29So it's been a wet start to Saturday as well for many of us.
00:32And whilst there will be some dry interludes out there through the course of this afternoon,
00:35we'll continue to see outbreaks of rain or showers for many.
00:39Now, it won't be raining the entire day.
00:40There will be some dry interludes and perhaps even a few glimmers of sunshine for some.
00:44Probably the best of the weather, generally speaking, across parts of Scotland through
00:47the course of this afternoon.
00:48Some longer spells of rain, though, pushing in across more southern parts of Wales and
00:52the south of England as well.
00:54But generally a fairly unsettled picture wherever you are this afternoon and therefore feeling
00:58quite cool for the time of year as well.
01:00Highs of 16 to 18 degrees, generally speaking, possibly reaching 19 or 20 perhaps across some
01:06central parts of England and parts of Wales as we go into this afternoon if we see any
01:11sunshine.
01:12But let's just focus in on the winds through the course of this afternoon.
01:15We do have a yellow wind warning in place and we will see some pretty unseasonably strong
01:19winds and also quite large waves coming in.
01:22So parts of Cornwall and Devon could see some impacts.
01:25Certainly take note if you are travelling through the course of this afternoon.
01:28Now, winds could gust 50, perhaps even 55 miles per hour as we go through the course of this
01:33afternoon and into this evening.
01:34The strongest winds transferring their way eastwards, so into parts of Sussex and Kent
01:38by this evening as well.
01:40So, as I say, the potential is there for some small branches and twigs, et cetera, to come
01:44down off trees and there could well be some localised disruption in places too.
01:50But further north, the winds will be quite a bit lighter and that could just allow one
01:53or two heavy showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, this evening across parts of central
01:56Britain.
01:57Otherwise, as we go through the course of the night, generally it will start to turn a little
02:01bit drier.
02:02There will be some showers around, but by the end of the night, most of the showery
02:05rain confined to the northeast of Scotland, with perhaps some longer and heavier spells
02:09of rain returning to Northern Ireland.
02:11Here it will stay quite breezy, the winds coming in from a fairly mild southwesterly direction
02:16through the course of tonight.
02:17So, temperatures aren't going to fall away too far.
02:19Generally speaking, they'll hold up into double figures.
02:22We might just dip into the high single figures further east, and it's here where we'll actually
02:26hold on to some clearer skies.
02:27So, a bright start to the day for eastern parts of Scotland and eastern England on Sunday.
02:32Some early morning sunshine.
02:33It will turn a little bit hazier as we go into the afternoon, but it should stay largely
02:37dry and bright for many.
02:39Further north and west, though, some spells of rain at times.
02:42It seems occasionally heavy, particularly for northern or western parts of Scotland and
02:46northern Ireland, where we could see some really quite intense bursts of rain at times
02:50as well, and associated with quite a brisk southerly to southwesterly wind here.
02:54It's not going to feel that wonderful.
02:56Some rain pushing into parts of northern England, parts of Wales as well.
02:59So, quite a wet picture for the far northwest of Wales and Cumbria, for example, as we go
03:05into the afternoon.
03:06But, holding on to some hazy sunshine in the east and the southeast of England, and here
03:09temperatures could rise possibly as high as 24 degrees Celsius, so a much warmer day for
03:14many compared to on Saturday.
03:17And certainly, if you have some sunshine, it should feel fairly pleasant.
03:21Now, through Sunday evening, the rain continues to make its way quite erratically and slowly
03:26southeastwards into more of England and Wales as we go towards Monday morning.
03:30So, quite a wet picture for some.
03:32The heaviest rain tend to be over the high grounds of Cumbria, southwest Scotland as well, with
03:37some clearer, more showery conditions following to the far northwest of Scotland.
03:40But it does mean that Monday is going to be a pretty wet day for many parts of England
03:44and Wales, the rain gradually easing from the northwest later.
03:47Sunny spells and showers, though, following on from the north and the west, and quite blustery
03:52winds as well.
03:52So, the potential for, once again, some pretty heavy downpours and thunderstorms and temperatures.
03:58Look at these.
03:58Only 15 or 16 degrees for some places, so a little bit below par for the time of year
04:03and feeling on the cool side.
