This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the week ahead 08/06/2026. Heavy hefty showers for all this week before signs of something drier and warmer and eventually sunnier appear at the end of the week. Bringing you this week’s weather forecast is Alex Deakin.

00:00Hello and welcome along to your weather forecast for the second full week of June, which shows signs of things
00:07warming up and drying up towards the end of the week.
00:10But before we get there, there is plenty more rain to tell you about.
00:14Low pressure is the dominant feature and that of course is being controlled by the jet stream, which is again
00:19south shifted and in this U shape.
00:23We call this a trough and this trough isn't moving very far very quickly.
00:28It allows low pressure systems just to kind of sit close by to the UK, generating heavy showers and a
00:34few thunderstorms through Wednesday and Tuesday.
00:37By the time we get to Thursday, there are signs of the jet pushing further north, but another weather system
00:42will move through.
00:44And then high pressure is trying its best to edge up from the south by the end of the week.
00:51More on that in a moment, though. Let's go through the next few days one at a time because we
00:56start off with low pressure and weather fronts.
00:58This band of showery rain will be swinging across the country from west to east on Tuesday morning.
01:03So some heavy downpours around it then turns brighter for a time, some sunny spells.
01:07But look at this. You can tell low pressure is nearby.
01:11The air just rushing up, the showers forming heavy, thundery downpours.
01:15One of those days where you get a biblical downpour one minute and 15 minutes later, the sun is out
01:21again.
01:21These showers will be intense, providing heavy bursts of rain, hail, thunder and lightning are all possible as well.
01:28Perhaps not as many showers in the south through the afternoon, a little bit more in the way of sunshine.
01:33But it is going to be on the cool side. Temperatures around or a little bit below average for the
01:38time of year.
01:39With some sunny spells across the southeast, we might get up into the high teens.
01:43Tuesday's weather charts still with that south shifted jet, still this U-shape, this trough, allowing these low pressure systems
01:51to mill around.
01:52Not a great deal of change in the bigger picture.
01:54If anything, the jet stream just edging a little bit more in, which means come the afternoon, a bit more
02:00ridging in the southwest.
02:01So showers here in the morning, but perhaps turning a bit drier come the afternoon.
02:04But otherwise, again, it'll be a case of, well, you may wake up to sunshine, but the showers, the clouds
02:09will soon start to bubble up.
02:10Some beautiful cloudscapes again this week.
02:12And the showers, again, like to be heavy and frequent over central and eastern England and across Scotland.
02:17Once more hail and thunder is possible, but perhaps not as many showers in Wales and southwest England for the
02:23afternoon.
02:23A bit more in the way of sunny spells here.
02:26Very brisk breeze and, again, that cool feel with temperatures in the mid to high teens.
02:30Generally about three to five degrees below the average for the middle of the month.
02:35A bit of a change for Thursday.
02:38There's that high.
02:39Still not really with us.
02:40Another low out to the northwest, but a real tangle of weather front.
02:43So rather than showers, a more persistent zone of rain will swing through on Thursday.
02:48A dull, damp start for many.
02:49Getting quite windy again, particularly around western coast.
02:52Some of that rain could be on the heavy side as it moves through.
02:54It should clear from northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England to, well, just then turn more showery come the afternoon.
03:02But it does mean at least some drier spells across parts of the Midlands and the southwestern corner of the
03:08UK, along with northern Ireland for the afternoon.
03:10But there'll still be showers moving in on a fairly brisk wind and probably not much sunshine.
03:14Staying pretty grey, pretty cloudy for most of the day.
03:17And again, those temperatures mostly in the mid to high teens bracket.
03:21Perhaps feeling a bit more humid, because in here that's a warm sector in there.
03:25Now, weather system does try and move through.
03:28Kind of drapes itself backwards for Friday morning, providing some outbreaks of cloud.
03:33But the pressure is slowly starting to build at this stage as the jet stream pushes further north.
03:39Still plenty of showers on Friday across the west of Scotland.
03:41But I suspect many places much drier on Friday, better chance of seeing some bright and sunny spells coming through.
03:48And look at the temperatures ticking up to 20 degrees Celsius, so much closer to the average for the middle
03:54part of June.
03:56So showing signs of getting a little warmer, but probably staying fairly cloudy through the course of Friday.
04:01Weather front getting squeezed down, wrung out by the high pressure creeping up from the southwest.
04:07Another weather front, another low pressure, trying to push in, but coming in now from a different angle.
04:12Everything pushing a little further north, which allows warmer air to waft up with this area of high pressure.
04:18So there are strong signals that this high will bring some drier and warmer weather as we head into the
04:24weekend.
04:24And slowly likely to turn sunnier as well.
