00:00Hello and welcome along to your weather forecast for the second full week of June, which shows signs of things
00:07warming up and drying up towards the end of the week.
00:10But before we get there, there is plenty more rain to tell you about.
00:14Low pressure is the dominant feature and that of course is being controlled by the jet stream, which is again
00:19south shifted and in this U shape.
00:23We call this a trough and this trough isn't moving very far very quickly.
00:28It allows low pressure systems just to kind of sit close by to the UK, generating heavy showers and a
00:34few thunderstorms through Wednesday and Tuesday.
00:37By the time we get to Thursday, there are signs of the jet pushing further north, but another weather system
00:42will move through.
00:44And then high pressure is trying its best to edge up from the south by the end of the week.
00:51More on that in a moment, though. Let's go through the next few days one at a time because we
00:56start off with low pressure and weather fronts.
00:58This band of showery rain will be swinging across the country from west to east on Tuesday morning.
01:03So some heavy downpours around it then turns brighter for a time, some sunny spells.
01:07But look at this. You can tell low pressure is nearby.
01:11The air just rushing up, the showers forming heavy, thundery downpours.
01:15One of those days where you get a biblical downpour one minute and 15 minutes later, the sun is out
01:21again.
01:21These showers will be intense, providing heavy bursts of rain, hail, thunder and lightning are all possible as well.
01:28Perhaps not as many showers in the south through the afternoon, a little bit more in the way of sunshine.
01:33But it is going to be on the cool side. Temperatures around or a little bit below average for the
01:38time of year.
01:39With some sunny spells across the southeast, we might get up into the high teens.
01:43Tuesday's weather charts still with that south shifted jet, still this U-shape, this trough, allowing these low pressure systems
01:51to mill around.
01:52Not a great deal of change in the bigger picture.
01:54If anything, the jet stream just edging a little bit more in, which means come the afternoon, a bit more
02:00ridging in the southwest.
02:01So showers here in the morning, but perhaps turning a bit drier come the afternoon.
02:04But otherwise, again, it'll be a case of, well, you may wake up to sunshine, but the showers, the clouds
02:09will soon start to bubble up.
02:10Some beautiful cloudscapes again this week.
02:12And the showers, again, like to be heavy and frequent over central and eastern England and across Scotland.
02:17Once more hail and thunder is possible, but perhaps not as many showers in Wales and southwest England for the
02:23afternoon.
02:23A bit more in the way of sunny spells here.
02:26Very brisk breeze and, again, that cool feel with temperatures in the mid to high teens.
02:30Generally about three to five degrees below the average for the middle of the month.
02:35A bit of a change for Thursday.
02:38There's that high.
02:39Still not really with us.
02:40Another low out to the northwest, but a real tangle of weather front.
02:43So rather than showers, a more persistent zone of rain will swing through on Thursday.
02:48A dull, damp start for many.
02:49Getting quite windy again, particularly around western coast.
02:52Some of that rain could be on the heavy side as it moves through.
02:54It should clear from northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England to, well, just then turn more showery come the afternoon.
03:02But it does mean at least some drier spells across parts of the Midlands and the southwestern corner of the
03:08UK, along with northern Ireland for the afternoon.
03:10But there'll still be showers moving in on a fairly brisk wind and probably not much sunshine.
03:14Staying pretty grey, pretty cloudy for most of the day.
03:17And again, those temperatures mostly in the mid to high teens bracket.
03:21Perhaps feeling a bit more humid, because in here that's a warm sector in there.
03:25Now, weather system does try and move through.
03:28Kind of drapes itself backwards for Friday morning, providing some outbreaks of cloud.
03:33But the pressure is slowly starting to build at this stage as the jet stream pushes further north.
03:39Still plenty of showers on Friday across the west of Scotland.
03:41But I suspect many places much drier on Friday, better chance of seeing some bright and sunny spells coming through.
03:48And look at the temperatures ticking up to 20 degrees Celsius, so much closer to the average for the middle
03:54part of June.
03:56So showing signs of getting a little warmer, but probably staying fairly cloudy through the course of Friday.
04:01Weather front getting squeezed down, wrung out by the high pressure creeping up from the southwest.
04:07Another weather front, another low pressure, trying to push in, but coming in now from a different angle.
04:12Everything pushing a little further north, which allows warmer air to waft up with this area of high pressure.
04:18So there are strong signals that this high will bring some drier and warmer weather as we head into the
04:24weekend.
04:24And slowly likely to turn sunnier as well.
