00:00 Hello, you've probably heard we have some colder weather on the way this weekend.
00:04 But how cold?
00:05 Well, some places will be 10 degrees lower than they were last weekend.
00:09 Starting off looking at Friday quickly, and we have a wet picture because of a weather
00:12 system crossing England and Wales, bringing some wind and rain.
00:16 And low pressure towards the north will bring some blustery showers across parts of Scotland.
00:21 But it's because of this low pressure towards the northeast and then high pressure towards
00:25 the west and the fact that we end up sandwiched in between those two, we are going to drag
00:30 in some northerly winds.
00:32 And it's on those cold northerly Arctic winds that we're going to see our temperatures plummeting
00:37 as cold air pushes its way southwards into the weekend.
00:41 Looking at the details for Saturday, and it's a bright sunny picture for many of us to start,
00:45 but showers feeding in on that cold northerly wind.
00:48 Some hefty ones across parts of north northeastern Scotland, risk of some thunder here, and otherwise
00:53 showers feeding in through the Irish Sea.
00:55 But they are going to become more widespread and penetrate further inland as we go through
01:01 the afternoon.
01:02 Still quite scattered though.
01:03 I think many places will see some showers, but they'll be fairly hit or miss and there'll
01:07 be some decent bright sunny spells in between those showers.
01:10 Across parts of Scotland, we could see some wintryness over the higher ground in particular,
01:15 but perhaps even some wet snow reaching lower levels of Orkney and Shetland.
01:19 And here it's going to be windy.
01:20 You could see gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour.
01:23 And generally across Scotland, it's going to be a windy picture and that will add to
01:27 the cold feel.
01:28 So feeling pretty chilly as some places see temperatures struggle into single figures.
01:33 A little bit milder further south and lighter winds here, but notice those temperatures
01:38 much lower than they were this time last weekend.
01:41 As we go into Sunday, we're going to continue to see high pressure starting to edge its
01:45 way in from the west.
01:46 We continue with that northerly wind and so it is going to stay cold, continuing to bring
01:50 our air in down from the Arctic.
01:52 But that high pressure will start to settle things down a bit more.
01:56 As a result, Sunday morning, lots of clear skies and it is going to be quite chilly as
02:00 a result of that.
02:01 So a touch of frost quite likely, especially in some northern areas, but plenty of bright
02:06 sunny skies first thing on Sunday morning.
02:09 There will be a few showers around, particularly across parts of Wales, perhaps Northern Ireland
02:13 too, and a system toppling to the north of that high pressure will bring some cloud and
02:18 showery rain across parts of Scotland, continuing as we go through the day, perhaps edging a
02:22 little bit further southwards.
02:24 Otherwise, because of the high pressure, many places going to have a fine settled day, much
02:29 fewer showers than on Saturday.
02:30 In fact, many places not seeing any showers at all.
02:33 Plenty of sunshine, though it could be a little bit hazy at times and a bit more cloud perhaps
02:38 towards the west and southwest of the UK.
02:41 Despite the sunshine, temperatures aren't going to rise particularly high.
02:44 In fact, for some of us, they could be a little bit lower than Saturday in the south, looking
02:48 at highs around 12 or 13 Celsius.
02:50 And again, some places in the north likely to stay in single figures, though the winds
02:55 here not quite as strong, not as blustery as it will be on Saturday.
03:00 We continue with the largely clear skies as we go through Sunday night and overnight into
03:04 Monday.
03:05 Still a bit of cloud and some showery rain, perhaps a bit of sleet or snow over parts
03:09 of Scotland.
03:10 And across the bulk of England and Wales and parts of Northern Ireland, often clear skies.
03:15 As a result, we could see a bit of mist and fog developing, particularly towards some
03:18 coastal areas.
03:19 And you can't rule out one or two coastal showers, but for many it will stay dry.
03:24 Under those clear skies, though, it's going to be chilly, probably a little bit chillier
03:28 than Saturday night.
03:30 And so first thing Monday morning, you'll really notice it.
03:33 You may need to scrape your windscreen on your cars because it is going to be a chilly,
03:37 perhaps even frosty start.
03:39 As we look ahead to next week and well, high pressure to start off with, so largely fine
03:43 but cold.
03:44 Before then, I am expecting something a little bit more mobile to push its way in from the
03:49 west so we could see some rain arriving, particularly towards southwestern parts as we go through
03:53 the week.
03:54 And that will also lead to our temperatures rising.
03:56 We'll have more information on the forecast through the weekend and for next week across
04:01 our social media channels on our website and our app.
04:04 I'll see you later.
