09 June - National morning forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Hello, some beautiful skyscapes to look at through the rest of today.
00:04The weather's going to be chopping and changing, some impressive cumulonimbus clouds,
00:08some heavy downpours, but also some sunshine to be had too.
00:12The messy nature clear from the satellite image, lines of showers,
00:16and then the speckled nature showing showers feeding in from the west of the Republic of Ireland,
00:22all thanks to low pressure dominating sitting up near Iceland.
00:25But throwing these bands of showers our way, we've seen some heavy ones already,
00:29and we'll see more of them developing through the afternoon.
00:31So, yes, as I said, one of those days where you look out the window one minute,
00:35ten minutes later it's a completely different scene.
00:38Heavy showers likely over Northern Ireland, England and Wales, the heaviest downpours,
00:42probably over eastern parts of England into southeast Scotland.
00:45Some thunderstorms likely here, hail along with the odd rumble and flash of lightning.
00:51The breeze fairly noticeable, so it does mean those showers will chug through quite rapidly,
00:55hence the changing nature of the skies.
00:58And perhaps not too many showers across the south this afternoon, decent chance of some sunny spells here.
01:03With lighter winds, the showers could be quite slow moving over northeast Scotland,
01:06so if you get caught under one here, it might last for quite some time.
01:10Wherever you are, it's going to be on the cool side for mid-June.
01:13We might squeak up to 18 or 19 with some sunshine across the southeast.
01:17Most places only in the low to mid-teens, and feeling cooler when the showers come along,
01:22of which there'll still be plenty through this evening's rush shower, quite a bit of spray,
01:25quite a bit of surface water on the roads for that.
01:27But they do tend to fade, the showers, across these eastern areas, certainly overnight.
01:32It turns a little drier with some clearer skies,
01:34but showers continuing to come into these western parts right throughout the night.
01:39Temperature-wise, well, with some clearer skies across Scotland, northern England, northern Ireland,
01:43we are likely to dip down into single figures.
01:46On to Wednesday, and it's more of the same again.
01:48Another day for puddle jumping, dodging the showers, there'll be plenty of them around,
01:53some heavy ones in places, particularly early on over northwest England.
01:56But showers will develop through the day after a largely sunny start over eastern Scotland and eastern England.
02:02We'll see those showers becoming more widespread.
02:04I'm reasonably optimistic we'll see the showers fading more rapidly in Wales and southwest England,
02:09so some longer spells of dry and sunnier weather developing here.
02:13But at the same time, come the afternoon, the showers again in this zone over eastern England
02:18and central and eastern Scotland like to be heavy and turn in places into thunderstorms, generating some hail.
02:26Again, tending to move through on a fairly brisk breeze.
02:28So, again, the weather chopping and changing quite a bit,
02:31but temperatures not changing that much, getting up to 15, 16, maybe 17 or 18,
02:36with some brighter skies in places, but still on the cool side for this time of the year.
02:42And still plenty of those heavy showers around with a few thunderstorms for Wednesday evening across the east,
02:48turning a little drier further west, but that isn't going to last long.
02:52Here you can see another spell of rain and strengthening winds, weather front moving in.
02:57That's going to bring more persistent rain in from the west as we go through Thursday.
03:02A soggy day for many, perhaps getting a little brighter behind that.
03:05But then down to the south, high pressure moving in, a change in our weather through Friday.
03:11More noticeable into the weekend as this high edges northwards.
03:15Things are going to turn drier and warmer.
03:18And so probably a good deal sunnier as well for Saturday and Sunday.
03:22A bit of a question mark about how warm it's going to get at this stage,
03:26but certainly some drier, calmer weather on the way as we head into the weekend.
03:30For more on that, you can watch this week's Met Office Deep Dive.
03:34That'll be available on our YouTube channel on Tuesday afternoon.
