00:00And to celebrate the release of the new Nightmare on Elm Street movie in theaters,
00:04today's Toy Spot we're going to be looking at the NECA, a Nightmare on Elm Street remake, Fred Krueger.
00:22So far there's only been two figures released from the new Nightmare on Elm Street figure collection.
00:28Of course we have Fred Krueger here.
00:31And finally we have Freddy Krueger, the before and after.
00:36I figure first, in the two videos I'm doing here, I figure first let's just actually look at Fred Krueger.
00:44After all he does start as Fred Krueger in the movie, I want to actually start Fred Krueger at the
00:49review.
00:50Makes sense.
00:51The figure package itself, there's not really a lot to it.
00:56But certainly NECA has gone with a more slender package as opposed to the package where you have the figure
01:03and then the card or the clamshell is a little bit wider and then there's the artwork there.
01:09Instead they've actually just put the artwork of the poster actually behind the figure.
01:15It's not bad, but I mean, certainly you can't quite really make out what's going on in the back aside
01:21from, you know,
01:22Freddy's claws going on there.
01:25Down below we have a picture of Freddy Krueger.
01:29On the back, now granted, the only downside though, with the Fred Krueger figure at least,
01:35is it seems to have used the Freddy Krueger back card.
01:40So there's not really a picture of Freddy Krueger, there's a picture of Freddy Krueger.
01:44The read-up says, a group of suburban teenagers share one common bond.
01:51They're all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them down in their dreams.
01:57As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another, but when they sleep, there is no escape.
02:04Very, very cool.
02:06I am excited, I am extremely excited to go see the new Nightmare on Elm Street movie.
02:11And I'm also excited to get this figure opened up.
02:14So let's not wait any longer.
02:16What we'll do is we'll get old Fred Krueger out of his package.
02:19And what we'll do is we'll have a better look at the figure.

02:24And now that we have Fred Krueger out of his package, let's get a better look at the figure.
02:30There's really not a lot going on with this figure.
02:32Although, for what little it has going on, it surprisingly does it very well.
02:39It does look like, from what I've seen of the Freddy Krueger figure in his package,
02:46it does actually look like it shares the exact same body mold.
02:50The pants, as well as the boots, or the shoes, do look exactly the same as the Freddy Krueger figure.
02:59You'll see that more, I'll do a comparison when I get the other figure opened up.
03:03I believe JTrain997 commented on this, and I actually have to agree with him.
03:08It does look, in fact, like they've used the top torso of the Freddy Krueger figure as well.
03:14And they've merely added this additional rubber torso to simulate the zipper jacket that he seems to wear in the
03:25beginning of the movie,
03:26or at least based on the trailer.
03:30It would have been nice, almost, that this jacket could have been a piece you could open up,
03:36but then it wouldn't stay as closed as you see now.
03:40It would probably be very prone to just kind of be loose and stay open,
03:48even though you maybe necessarily want it closed.
03:51But the figure itself is very nice.
03:54It is very nice.
03:55I don't know if it's deliberate, but the jacket is very hunched.
04:01In fact, he actually looks like he's quite hunched over.
04:04It might just be that he's wearing an oversized jacket.
04:07It could also just be because of the molding of the mold,
04:11just the fact that they put this extra piece over top of his existing torso.
04:17The one thing I do like about the figure as well is the sculpt actually on the head.
04:23It looks exactly like Jackie Earle.
04:27Hair-wise, it's a little bit different than, oh, maybe how he looked in Watchmen, for example,
04:34where he had more of a brush cut.
04:37But based on what I've seen in the trailer so far,
04:40granted by the time you're watching this,
04:42I probably still have not seen the movie.
04:43I'm going to see if I can get the wife out to it.
04:47The face is very, very nice.
04:49It is very nice.
04:52And I actually like the fact that if you actually look at the hands,
04:56the hands actually were done really well too.
04:58They're not youthful looking hands.
05:01They actually look very old.
05:03Very old and wrinkly.
05:06I am very impressed with this figure though.
05:08Very, very impressed.
05:10He only actually comes with one accessory.
05:13Which actually is interesting.
05:16Because again, if you haven't seen the movie,
05:18where as you're watching this right now,
05:20I have not seen the movie yet.
05:22But he comes with a garden tool.
05:27And it's actually,
05:30it's inside a hand.
05:31You actually got a separate hand holding it.
05:34You can take the hand out.
05:36And I want to make sure I got the right hand here.
05:39Take the hand out.
05:40Just a little via peg there.
05:43And peg it into place.
05:46And there you have Fred Krueger with...
05:51Is he going to go garden?
05:53I really don't know.
05:54I'm almost thinking no.
05:56And it could be maybe the early evolution of Freddy.
06:04Maybe he uses this early on in his killings.
06:09And then later on adopts the infamous Freddy glove.
06:15It's pretty neat.
06:16I don't know if...
06:17Again, I might keep this figure with this on once I see the movie.
06:21Once maybe it makes more sense.
06:23As it stands right now though,
06:24I probably would just keep the normal human hand pegged into place instead.
06:31Now in the way of his articulation,
06:33he has a full range of movement in his head.
06:37He's got the ball jointed head.
06:38He has the ball jointed shoulders.
06:43And despite the fact they've added this additional piece,
06:45you still get lots of movement from it.
06:48He has...
06:49I tried to bend it earlier.
06:51It didn't seem like it wanted to.
06:52But he does have a jointed elbow.
06:55That you can also rotate as well.
06:58And being that the hand,
07:00even though it just fell out here,
07:01being that it is on a peg,
07:03you can actually rotate the hand.
07:05Not very well, unfortunately, with this hand.
07:07But the other hand is a little bit easier.
07:09He has what seems to be waist articulation.
07:13Really not by much though.
07:15And finally he has a rotation in his feet.
07:23The real problem I have with this figure,
07:25and it's not so much a problem,
07:27because the figure itself is gorgeous.
07:31I don't know if I would have actually sold this figure on his own.
07:37If you've seen the example of the Friday the 13th 2-pack
07:42that came with Pamela Voorhees and Jason Voorhees,
07:45probably the same argument I have with this figure here.
07:49Yes, it is a nice figure,
07:53but I know most kids,
07:56and probably most...
07:57Unless you're a diehard collector,
07:58and you really would want to get both figures,
08:01unless you're a diehard collector,
08:02I don't see many people picking up the Fred Kruger on his own.
08:07It leads me really to believe
08:09that if you were to pick up the Fred Kruger,
08:11it's only because you already have the Freddy Kruger,
08:13or because you've bought them at the same time.
08:16I don't know if anyone would actually go out of their way
08:19and buy Fred Kruger again,
08:21unless they already had the Freddy.
08:24For that reason,
08:25I almost see poor Fred here.
08:27Poor Fred in his zipper jacket.
08:29I almost see him as a peg warmer.
08:33Most people, I'm sure,
08:34would go in,
08:35scoop up,
08:36and pick up all the Freddies,
08:37and leave poor Fred all on his own.
08:40So really,
08:41that's the only thing I would have said about this figure.
08:43It's a really, really nice figure,
08:45but as a collector,
08:47I'm more inclined to probably pick up this figure anyways,
08:50as with most horror movie collectors out there.
08:53As a casual collector,
08:56probably nobody would pick up a Fred Kruger,
08:58but would very, very likely pick up a Freddy Kruger.
09:02For that reason,
09:03I almost think NECA really should have packaged
09:06a Fred and Freddy as a two-pack,
09:09and maybe offer a Freddy as a separate single figure,
09:13but the only way to get the Fred was maybe to get the two-pack.
09:16That way,
09:17most collectors would probably get this guy and the Freddy anyways,
09:20and most casual collectors could go and buy the Freddy.
09:25Doesn't take anything away from the figure.
09:27The figure is really, really nice.
09:29I just don't think it's going to sell well,
09:32unless you're a real diehard collector
09:34who wants to get this guy also.
09:37That being said, though,
09:38the figure I'd probably give a seven.
09:42A really high figure.
09:43Like I said, well sculpted.
09:45The paint is really nice,
09:46and it definitely looks like Jackie Earle,
09:48but I don't know selling it in a single pack
09:52would have been a smart choice.
09:54But that was a toy spot.
