NECA Friday the 13th Ultimate NES Jason Voorhees Figure Review

FunTranscript
00:00I wouldn't even bother asking LJN if Jason Voorhees is dead, because apparently they're not telling.
00:04Here's your look at the NECA toys, Friday the 13th, the game, Jason Voorhees, reissue figure.
00:19It all takes place out in Camp Crystal Lake, the pleasant little camp where happy children of all ages go
00:24to spend a fun-filled summer.
00:25But summer will be different. The fun will have to wait.
00:27But Jason's decided to come to camp, and Terror is the only game they'll be playing.
00:31Don't think that hiding in a cabin or staying adrift in a canoe will help you keep you safe.
00:35The only way to survive this summer is to challenge Jason face-to-face and destroy him.
00:39Don't worry, that hasn't been done before. There is always a first time.
00:43Well, not always.
00:44Originally, I didn't have plans to make this review today, because me and my friends were going out for a
00:47barbecue.
00:48Then I got a message saying that me and my friends are apparently dead.
00:51What am I going to do with all this potato salad?
00:53Needless though to say, we're going to be looking now at the reissue of NES Jason.
00:56Now, this is technically the third time, I suppose, we've gotten this figure.
00:59Have they made enough improvements to warrant picking this guy up?
01:03I actually did grab this from NECA's direct site.
01:06Unfortunately, though, I ordered this in, like, late April, and it arrived early June.
01:10So I had to wait a little while, and that's what brought us to the dance a little tad later.
01:15As for how tall the figure's going to stand,
01:17tape manager is telling us that the figure of Jason stands 7 inches in height,
01:21working then roughly out to be a figure that's 17 and a half centimeters tall.
01:25In a second, I'll bring in the boxes that go with these figures.
01:28But we did first get an NES Jason way back in 2013 as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive.
01:33This figure did benefit from having glow-in-the-dark masks, hands, and footwear,
01:38and also his weapons as well that he wielded were all glow-in-the-dark as well.
01:42We then waited a few years after that.
01:44In 2015, they did release the figure again.
01:46They added some additional lines, as you can see already in his top and in his bottoms.
01:50They then painted the mask in an opaque plastic or opaque color,
01:54and they also did the same for the hands and boots.
01:57The benefit then of also the Jason that got reissued in 2015
02:00was that they also included the floating head of Pamela Voorhees.
02:03If you were lucky, though, enough to get the 2015 Jason Voorhees,
02:06one thing it did also have as well was a sound clip.
02:09Granted, though, my sound clip has died over the years of me constantly opening and closing.
02:13I don't know if there is really a way to go in there and change the batteries,
02:16but you can see, though, it's dated lot number from 2015.
02:20Put that box right over there.
02:22I'll bring in also the San Diego Comic-Con exclusive from 2013.
02:26Box-wise, it does look like somewhat almost exactly the same.
02:29The only thing that's different, though, is they did also add, of course,
02:32the little convention exclusive sticker there on the top,
02:34but it didn't have the sound clip effect piece.
02:37The reissue, though, dated then now 2025, does bring back the sound clip,
02:43and luckily, though, for all you guys and myself, the sound clip is still intact.
02:49This will, of course, play the sound clip, the theme, from the video game of Friday the 13th.
02:57Again, I'm not sure, though, if there's a way to change the battery.
02:59I would think you probably would have to rip apart the box to actually get in there
03:02and change what I'm guessing to be a button cell battery.
03:06Box-wise, though, on the back of the boxes, by the way,
03:08you can see that, well, this one is probably the closest one to that, the 2015.
03:14It's a little bit lighter of a green here on this side.
03:16Of course, everything that's borderlining the boxes here on the sides
03:19looks like it's also a lighter green, whereas this one would have been a blue.
03:22The San Diego Comic-Con had actually more of the closer colors to this one,
03:25but, again, it only advertises just the fact that there's the glow-in-the-dark weapons
03:29and the fact that the mask does the same.
03:31Arriving to shore now are Jason Voorhees' accessories.
03:33The figure does include an axe.
03:35Now, I'm going to bring in the axe here that came and included the convention-exclusive.
03:39Mold-wise, I don't think there's anything different
03:40other than just the fact that this original one was more of a translucent kind of plastic,
03:44whereas now, of course, this one here is painted.
03:47This is the one that we got here from 2015.
03:50This would probably be the closer way to compare them
03:52because both of them also, as you can see, that have the head of the axe are all both painted.
03:56Although, the one in the middle here has a more lighter brown.
03:59The one from 2015 has a darker handle.
04:01And I guess, like this one, they're all kind of really a different brown.
04:04They've yet to really make all the browns exactly the same.
04:09Same kind of rule applies also when we look at the machete.
04:11Now, just to bring in the machete from the convention-exclusive,
04:14again, you've got the translucent plastic.
04:17Of course, looking at the handles there as well.
04:19They look okay.
04:20Okay, and let's also, for this, bring in the 2015.
04:24Now, I noticed that the 2015, I see it even more now with the machete,
04:27is that the 2015 seems a little bit more of a darker white.
04:30This now seems a much more brighter white.
04:33Flipped around the blades.
04:35Probably not a good idea to hold, really, a machete by its blade,
04:37but just to show you guys the difference of the handles.
04:41Yeah, again, like a much more brighter chestnut brown here for the 2015.
04:45The other one had, again, a brown for the convention-exclusive.
04:49And the one meeting in the middle, that's the one that we're now getting for the 2025 release.
04:53The thing, unfortunately, about this is Jason Voorhees has still yet to have two gripping hands.
04:57Every figure that we've gotten for the Nintendo tie-in toy has always had a gestured hand on one side,
05:03a gripping on the other.
05:05So, unfortunately, the figure is only going to ever be able to hold one accessory at a time.
05:08And just to show you, let's grab the axe, slide the axe into his hand.
05:15Works the way that a gripping hand should be.
05:17And then, of course, we'll do the exact same with the machete.
05:19Machete slides in there, too.
05:20Pretty good.
05:21I mean, it stays enough in there.
05:22I don't have to worry that it's going to be falling out of his hand.
05:24But, you know, again, like, unfortunately, he will always have,
05:27no matter what Jason you get from the old Nintendo days,
05:30he'll always have a gripping or gestured hand.
05:33So, there's not really much that you can really do over here,
05:34other than maybe Jason asking for change,
05:37asking for some of that potato salad that I made so much of.
05:39I know I did.
05:40I made so much potato salad.
05:42Anyways, let's get the accessories out of his hand.
05:44We'll put the figure down here for a second.
05:45He does, of course, now include the floating head of Pamela.
05:48She can be detached.
05:50I guess if you had strings, for example,
05:51you can have just her dangling,
05:53as opposed to attaching her onto the clear acrylic display stand.
05:57But, just to bring in here,
05:58this is the original one,
05:59or the one from 2015.
06:02So, difference-wise,
06:03there's actually a lot more different here for Pamela.
06:06You can see that she has kind of more of a darker purple for her hair,
06:09but she has much more of a teal color for the face.
06:12She's a little bit more lighter now for the newer one.
06:16I would be argued, I'm sure,
06:18if I was to say there was anything different at all to the mold.
06:20They look exactly the same.
06:23Maybe like this one,
06:24like the details are a little bit more smoother.
06:26But, again, we're dealing with a mold anyways
06:28that's, what, over 10 years old.
06:30So, they really haven't changed it at all.
06:32It doesn't really look at all like they changed anything to display stands either.
06:35They look to be exactly the same.
06:37Again, the convention version of Jason Voorhees never had that.
06:40Let's move that all out of the way,
06:41get a closer look now at Jason.
06:43Now, again, I've already brought in,
06:44this was the convention-exclusive version of him,
06:46so he had the translucent blue mask.
06:48First time we got this figure.
06:49I still like this figure.
06:51I mean, there's something to be said for him being paint,
06:53at least for the mask.
06:55Having translucency for the mask,
06:56it really doesn't look like something that Jason would necessarily have done.
06:59Of course, he also has translucency here in the hands
07:01and also in his feet as well.
07:03The figure has held up pretty good.
07:05He's still loose, unfortunately, though,
07:06in the tops of his legs.
07:07But, again, like the molding-wise,
07:09it's basically just pulled,
07:10I think from Friday the 13th Part 3,
07:11Jason's mold,
07:12including, of course,
07:13the face sculpt that's underneath.
07:14Just take the mask off right now.
07:16There's what the mask looks like.
07:18Again, translucent,
07:19kind of a bluish clear plastic,
07:21and that's his face underneath.
07:24And you can also see, too,
07:26like he doesn't have the gash there on the top of his head.
07:28Face is fine.
07:29No issue's really there at all.
07:31And we'll just put the figure down here for a second.
07:35Reach then off to the side.
07:36We'll grab in the one from 2015.
07:38Now, the 2015,
07:40I almost feel like I like the coloring more for the mask,
07:43but I like the shape mask better for the 2025 issue.
07:47So, again, just to show you guys the differences there.
07:49It's definitely more refined,
07:52more finessed on the newer one.
07:54You can make out better that there's the holes,
07:56the eye sockets look a little clearer.
07:58And actually, even like the mask itself
08:00is a little more tapered.
08:01It's not as wide.
08:03This was a much wider-looking mask.
08:06But it doesn't,
08:06I don't think it looks as finished.
08:08It doesn't look as professional.
08:10I don't want to say professional.
08:11It doesn't look as polished as the one from 2015.
08:15One thing, though, that 2015 did do,
08:17and also the 2025 has also followed suit.
08:20They've gone in there and panel lined.
08:22This one never had that.
08:23This one had it.
08:242025's got it as well.
08:25Coloring, though, for the body,
08:27it does look like the purple is a little bit more muted.
08:30The plastic also does seem like it's a little shinier
08:32for the 2015 release
08:34and a little, again, less shiny
08:36when it comes to 2025.
08:37I do think, like, the mask is considerably better
08:39on this one.
08:41But I feel, though, like the coloring on this,
08:43if only they could have used this color
08:45and this mask,
08:46because, again, I feel like this mask
08:48is a little too pastel.
08:50Hands, again, are exactly the same.
08:51The footwear doesn't at all change, really,
08:53other than the fact that, yeah,
08:54you can probably see it much better here
08:56with the shoes,
08:57how that's much more of a teal-colored blue,
08:59and that's a little bit more of a pastel blue.
09:02Face-wise, we'll go ahead
09:04and just peel this one off.
09:05Now, one of the benefits also
09:06that the 2015 did benefit from
09:08was that they also went in there
09:09and painted the eyes.
09:11Did some nice shadowing also around that as well,
09:13so it just made the eyes pop a little bit more.
09:16And again, with the 2015,
09:18we'll just remove the mask quickly here.
09:21This one does the same,
09:23although the eyes are much brighter here
09:26on the 2015 or 2025,
09:28so 10 years past,
09:29they've gone and definitely improved the paint.
09:31It glows a lot more.
09:33Face sculpts, again, look exactly the same.
09:35So there's nothing really much that's different
09:37other than just new cosmetic changes.
09:39And I guess really the biggest change
09:40is that also the mask.
09:42We get a much better-looking mask.
09:43Just to show you, though, for a second,
09:45I don't want to just put in the 2015 mask
09:47on the 2025 body.
09:49Yeah, you know, I like the blue,
09:51I think, a little bit more.
09:53And here again is the 2025 mask.
09:56You let me know down below.
09:58Do you like this coloring,
09:58or do you think that the pastel blue
10:00works a little bit better?
10:01For the articulation, though, on the figure,
10:03I mean, if you're familiar at all
10:04with the Ultimate Jason's,
10:05or even, for that matter,
10:06if you've just been collecting the NES Jason's,
10:08not really sure why you would,
10:10the articulation, obviously,
10:11is going to be retained
10:11with all the three figures.
10:13There's nothing, really,
10:13that's been improved on one.
10:15They're all basically following the same format.
10:17For Jason's articulation,
10:19obviously, the head's going to be on a ball joint.
10:20It allows the head to move back and forth.
10:22It does also move up and down there as well.
10:24Just, though, be careful
10:25when you are moving it
10:25that you don't break
10:26and pull the straps by mistake.
10:28Of course, the arms do rotate
10:29all the way around as well.
10:30They'll still make, granted,
10:31that sound, that squeaky sound,
10:33because obviously it's just hitting
10:35the softer plastic for his torso.
10:37The arms can come out.
10:39I wouldn't necessarily say at 90 degrees,
10:41but it does pull out at least a 45.
10:43There's a swivel here.
10:44Now, the figure obviously
10:45is not going to have a swivel
10:47in his bicep,
10:48but he does have at least, though,
10:49a swivel in his forearm.
10:51He's bent at the elbow.
10:52Hands rotate all the way around.
10:53You can hinge those back and forth there, too.
10:55Upper torso is a little tight,
10:57but it does do the job
10:58of rotating all the way around.
10:59It's going to make off some of the noise
11:01when you're doing that, too.
11:02Legs split,
11:02and they split pretty far.
11:04You move forward and back,
11:05and still, again,
11:06you're going to get a lot of that sound
11:07while it's rubbing up against itself.
11:09What?
11:10Swivel at the top of the thigh.
11:11Single hinge for the knee.
11:13Knees, I've noticed on mine,
11:14are a little on the tighter side.
11:15Lower leg does rotate.
11:16Hinge up and down on the feet,
11:17and they also rock back and forth.
11:19In case you are curious,
11:20in case anybody cares,
11:22the figure does also have pickles
11:23on the bottoms of his feet.
11:25So there are changes that are made.
11:27I mean, again,
11:28I think for the most part,
11:29there are more positives made
11:30to the changes to the reissued
11:31than there are the negatives.
11:33Again, just to bring back in here,
11:34the 2015.
11:37One thing I will say
11:38that the 2015,
11:39I think,
11:39does a little bit better
11:41is the coloring.
11:42I like, I think,
11:43the purple more on this one.
11:45I think I like the blue better
11:46on the 2015.
11:47And, of course,
11:48we can also bring in
11:48the convention-exclusive version
11:50here as well.
11:51One thing I really think
11:52that's cool is that
11:53NECA found a way
11:54to bring back
11:54the sound chip feature.
11:56So, again,
11:56when you open and close the flap,
11:58it's going to make,
12:00of course,
12:00the sound effects.
12:01And, of course,
12:02they also did bring back
12:03Pamela Voorhees.
12:03So, again,
12:04there's the Pamela Voorhees
12:04from 2015.
12:06There's the one from 2025.
12:08I think, like,
12:09the mask is better
12:09on this one.
12:11I think the paint also
12:12is better on the unmasked
12:13head portrait
12:14that's underneath.
12:15But I still feel
12:16the one thing
12:17that this one
12:17still does better
12:18is the coloring
12:19for his mask.
12:20And everything
12:20that's basically
12:21in this blue
12:22does a better blue
12:23than the one
12:24that we're now
12:24getting in the reissue.
12:25I'm so relieved
12:26I didn't have to go
12:26through any confusing
12:27cabins like in the game
12:28in order to find this figure.
12:30NECA had it advertised
12:31only on their site.
12:32I don't know if he was
12:32actually available
12:33in any other format
12:34or any other outlets
12:35than that.
12:36But that's unfortunately
12:37where I had to pick up
12:38the figure.
12:38I say unfortunately,
12:39though,
12:39because, you know,
12:40if you've already now
12:40seen two videos this week,
12:42you'll know.
12:42Order a whole bunch
12:43of stuff from NECA
12:44like near the end of April.
12:45And we're now,
12:46like,
12:46I'm looking at my
12:47outdated calendar
12:47and we're into the first
12:48week of June
12:49and these figures
12:49finally did arrive.
12:50Despite some delay,
12:52and that's a bit
12:52of an understatement,
12:54finally now happy
12:54to have Jason Voorhees
12:55with a reissue.
12:56This one, again,
12:57is dated from 2025.
12:58You can definitely
12:59see improvements
13:00at least for the mask.
13:01Body's going to be
13:02exactly the same.
13:02There's nothing at all
13:03that's been changed there.
13:04The floating Pamela Voorhees
13:06head is also,
13:07again, the same.
13:07But there's been
13:08refinements made
13:09to the mask.
13:09It looks a little sharper.
13:10It looks a little cleaner
13:11and it looks a little
13:12bit more finished.
13:13Yet, though,
13:14I still feel like
13:14the coloring is better
13:15on the one from 2013
13:17or 2015.
13:18I'm even confusing
13:19my dates.
13:20Ten years have passed
13:21and yet I feel like
13:22the coloring is better
13:23for the second release one
13:25that also had the sound chip.
13:26Speaking of sound chips,
13:27relieved, though,
13:28that NECA found the way
13:28to bring back the sound chip.
13:30I don't know, again,
13:31like how long that's
13:31going to last.
13:32I guess it depends
13:32on how many times
13:33you're opening and closing it.
13:34And plus, too,
13:35batteries just eventually
13:36have their shelf life,
13:38their lifespan,
13:39and eventually that battery,
13:40I'm sure, will die.
13:40But in the meantime,
13:41if you want to annoy
13:42other people in your house,
13:43just open up the flap
13:45and walk from room to room
13:46playing the theme song
13:48from the NES Friday the 13th.
13:50Like I said,
13:50this one is available
13:51right now on NECA's site.
13:53I think as far as I know,
13:54it's still in stock.
13:55If you have picked
13:55this one up for yourself
13:56and maybe you already own
13:57the other two Jasons,
13:58is there, again,
13:59enough changes
14:00that have been made
14:00to this reissue?
14:02Even then,
14:03having those other two,
14:03you're not disappointed
14:04at all that you
14:05picked this one up.
14:06If you guys also
14:07did enjoy this video,
14:08you can do a solid
14:09throw it, yeah, like.
14:10There's going to be
14:10more videos coming your way,
14:12so make sure you're
14:12coming back to this channel.
