00:00One wave in, and Dick Grayson's already gotten a double dipping.
00:03Here's your look at the brand new Mattel DC Core Robin action figure.
00:22Explore the world of DC Comics with the new Robin figure from Mattel.
00:25Each figure is fully articulated and includes character-specific accessories.
00:29Let's see that we got a second helping of a sidekick.
00:31Although, to be fair, though, I really probably should have looked at this Robin first before the one that came
00:35in clue with his own cycle.
00:37Still, though, this one was finally found over on Amazon.
00:40Took a while for them to actually stock it.
00:42Picked it up, and of course, that's not why we're looking at it right now in this review.
00:46We still have yet to look at the Joker.
00:48He also arrived at the same time as Robin, so we're also going to be looking at him as well.
00:53For how tall Robin's going to be, whoa, let's not let this get ahead of me.
00:57Let's grab first the tape measure, and it's going to tell us Robin seems to stand at six inches in
01:02height, or give or take about 14 and a half centimeters tall.
01:06First doesn't seem to be the only one that likes his collection of Robins, having already, though, collected and reviewed
01:11the Robin that came alone with a standalone cycle.
01:14The mold is going to be exactly the same.
01:16The only thing, clearly, that's done differently is cosmetic changes.
01:19If you like, though, the more modern look to Robin with, like, dark more blacks and a little bit of
01:24the red accents, this might be the better one to go with.
01:26I think most people, I think, I can only really speak for myself, I really like more the classic look
01:31of Robin and definitely wanted to pick this one up as well.
01:34Speaking of a guy who likes, again, his Robins, here's what the figure looks like.
01:37With the Wave 1 Core Batman, we've also, of course, had a look at the Core Flash.
01:41And even though he's not technically really part of this Wave, he can't stand in for the same size of
01:45Supes.
01:46Here's also what the figure looks like with a standalone Superman that had sound effects as well.
01:51I gotta come clean. I actually did cheat a little bit at the beginning of this review.
01:54Robin was looking at his weapons rack, but the weapons rack didn't technically belong to him.
01:59Technically, though, that was Batman's, but though technically, it can also attach to the one that comes in clear with
02:04Robin as well.
02:05Well, they seem so far to be the only figures in the Core Class figure line that has actually a
02:10weapons rack that can clip together.
02:12So if you happen half, first, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
02:14Let's put everything off to the side.
02:15Grab the paper pamphlets that comes included with it.
02:19To be fair, though, everything that's going to be mentioned in the pamphlet is going to be the same stuff
02:22that I'm going to mention as well.
02:23But it does show you, though, that the weapons rack attaches onto the bottom of the base.
02:26I was about to do that.
02:27It shows you, though, that you can attach the two weapons racks together, which was something I was about to
02:32do.
02:32And it also shows you, as well, how to clip them off, which is something, again, I'm about to do.
02:37We're going to first take the weapons rack.
02:40And we want to make sure, of course, we've got it facing the right way.
02:42I do actually like the fact that the top of it kind of looks like a bat emblem, although it's
02:46got a little more squared-off wings.
02:48The bottoms have pegs, and then the bottom of the base does have these open slots.
02:53Take the two together, snap them together, and now you've got yourself a weapons rack.
02:57Now, I've noticed it makes things a little bit easier if you actually just lift this up just a little
03:01bit.
03:02Just a little bit.
03:05And why I don't put it in all the way is I find it does help to stabilize this and
03:09stand it a little bit better.
03:11Although, if you happen to have yourself one from Batman, what you'll have to do is, on one side,
03:17let's actually get this now completely on the display base.
03:20Snap, snap, snap, snap, there you go.
03:22On one side, you can probably already see there's these clamps.
03:25The other side has almost looked like handles.
03:28I wonder if you could carry this around like a giant briefcase.
03:31Batman just kind of calls Robin from afar.
03:33Can you just bring in the bat cage of weapons?
03:36Robin's running in, carrying around like this suitcase.
03:38But what we're going to do, though, is we're going to take the two halves, snap it together on the
03:42top, snap it together on the bottom,
03:44and then I prefer to have this slightly turned.
03:47Now, you could, if you had more of these, turn this around the other way and just rinse and repeat
03:52the steps.
03:53Of course, you would then require two others, so maybe eventually we might get ourselves a core Batgirl.
03:57Oh, I'm trying to think of who else. Maybe a Nightwing? Maybe a Nightwing.
04:00Yeah, and those could clamp here and right here, and you'd have yourself a total pillar of souls.
04:05Oh, wait, that's Hellraiser.
04:07I think what I would do instead is angle it this way.
04:10I kind of like that it would be something in the corner of the Batcave that, of course,
04:13Batman, Robin, whoever else knows the whereabouts of the Batcave would just walk themselves over and pick out the weapons
04:19that they need.
04:19Speaking about the weapons that they need, I have yet to take these off,
04:24and I want to draw your attention also to this as well.
04:26It might just be me, but it seems like the sprue, the model sprue, seems looser.
04:32I think a lot of it may have contributed to the fact that maybe the things that are actually on
04:37it are things that are going to be removed.
04:38Like, for example, he does have the staffs that have the blades.
04:41He's got a couple of Ninja Star Shurikens there as well.
04:44It looks like bat cuffs, too.
04:47There's also a knife.
04:48I thought down below here these were combi sticks.
04:51Realizing, though, by the fact that these stick out, I don't think that they're supposed to be combi sticks.
04:56I guess if you wanted to, at least for right now, these do have technically handles on them,
05:01so maybe they could be makeshift combi sticks until eventually we get the one with Nightwing.
05:05By the way, while I'm talking about this as well, I'm going to grab in my clippers here.
05:09I'm going to clip off some of these just to show you how I'm going to be doing it.
05:12You could really as well just twist these off.
05:15Twist these off.
05:19Sometimes, though, this takes a little bit more time because you have to twist them off.
05:21But there you go.
05:22There's one of the weapons.
05:23But again, it seems like the plastic is a little bit more mime-able.
05:28I don't know.
05:30If you want to do it, though, the more cleaner way, you just take yourself your clips,
05:33which, again, these are designed specifically for model building,
05:36and we just attack the sprue.
05:39We're just going to attack the sprue.
05:40Is this the taming of the sprue?
05:43Shut up.
05:43That was a stupid joke.
05:44Anyways, let's just clip these all off.
05:47And to benefit, at least, of these clippers, make that they're flat on the one side.
05:51You can actually clean off the part of the weapon that just sticks up.
05:55Because you're going to probably have little excess pieces of plastic.
05:57We don't want excess pieces of plastic.
06:00We're not going to waste the entire review.
06:02Could you just imagine if the next 15 minutes of this video is just me doing what I'm doing right
06:07now?
06:07You guys would turn away.
06:09Hey, I thought you liked this guy's videos.
06:11I do normally, but this guy spent much more time than was needed clipping off these blasted things.
06:18Mom, of course, says, is that a model sprue?
06:21And then, of course, you could look up to mom and say, you know what?
06:23That's why I love you as my mom.
06:25You know exactly what a model sprue would be.
06:28Anyways, though, all of these, by the way, have the open slots on the back.
06:31So the one that has the staff with the blade does have that.
06:35So you can clip that.
06:36Where do we want to put this?
06:37I would probably put it here on the side.
06:40So let me just kind of line everything up here.
06:44Again, I know I'm not going to waste the time to show you guys every single weapon and where I
06:48have plans to put it.
06:50But we're just going to kind of clip these on for right now.
06:52And, of course, also, too, you can put them on his utility belt the same way that Batman does as
06:56well.
06:57You could also really use Batman's accessories.
06:59Nobody says they has to be what Robin's weapons.
07:02Although maybe Batman would prefer that Robin uses his and Batman uses his own.
07:08The last thing I'm going to do, I'm just kind of interested about the cuffs here.
07:12So we're just going to kind of carefully clip these off.
07:15Same thing on this side, too.
07:17You just finished saying you weren't going to be.
07:19I'm not.
07:19I'm just just bear with me, please.
07:22One last time just to do this here.
07:24We're going to clip these off and that off as well.
07:27I don't want to break the cuffs.
07:29That's why.
07:30First of all, I'm also talking, too.
07:31So it just doesn't seem like there's silence.
07:33There's absolutely no dialogue happening here.
07:36But there's also the back cuffs.
07:38Kind of like the look of these back cuffs.
07:39When eventually, do we get around to looking at Joker?
07:42Yeah, I'm probably going to be bringing back these back cuffs.
07:44By the way, though, do they fit on Robin?
07:46And it seems strange that Robin would be walking around with back cuffs.
07:51Just weird one of those kinky things, I guess.
07:53I don't know.
07:54Anyways, let's clip that on.
07:55We'll do the same thing on this side.
07:59I'm more now curious than anything else just to see if the back cuffs actually do hold on properly.
08:04And they do.
08:05So eventually, when we do get a couple more criminals,
08:07I feel really that we need to have a lot more criminals than what we do.
08:10I mean, like a Batman, a Flash, now two Robins, and only just the standalone Joker.
08:15Got to beef it up just a little bit with the bad guys.
08:18Just saying.
08:19Any one of these weapons, by the way, much like Batman.
08:22Let go, let go.
08:24If you flip around the back of their bodies, there is a spot in the utility belt.
08:29The problem with the utility belt and the problem with back cuffs probably would be that,
08:32yeah, it's going to occupy the entire space.
08:35Robin chose poorly.
08:36Robin chose very poorly.
08:40Let's grab at least a weapon that's small enough.
08:42We'll grab...
08:42I mean, nothing really on Robin is small when it comes to his accessories.
08:45They all seem like they're giant.
08:48Again, you could use Batman, but Batman doesn't really want him using his weapons.
08:51Let's be fair.
08:53After what happened, though, with his Batmobile,
08:55he wants Robin to have nothing to do with anything that he has his name on.
08:59And by his name, it's basically just, you know, the bat symbol.
09:01So that clips onto the back of his body.
09:04You could go a little modest, I suppose.
09:06A lot more modest with the way that you probably have these on the back of his body.
09:10It's unfortunate, though, that with these bat figures,
09:12and again, I say that with Batman and Robin specifically,
09:15that they have to have a hole through their cape.
09:18It's more there, I guess, because eventually when they get around to having backpacks,
09:21I mean, just how awkward that would that be.
09:23Robin has like a backpack or winged pack or something on the back of his body.
09:27And then he has to have that cape just blown around to the front of his body,
09:30just so the cape would, you know, not get in the way of things.
09:33So they do this deliberately.
09:34So eventually when there's pack things to go on the backs of their torso,
09:38I know I'm stating the obvious.
09:40Well, the cape's not going to have to be in the way of things.
09:43Getting, though, a closer look at Robin now that we've eaten way too much time talking about bat racks.
09:47Excuse me.
09:48Bat racks.
09:49Let's get a closer look now at Robin.
09:51Now, I said already that this is pretty much the same Robin.
09:53I kind of worked the opposite order.
09:55This is the same Robin that came included as well with his bat cycle.
09:58Now, with that logic, though, if you happen to have still the Robin cycle,
10:03this Robin would fit perfectly fine inside the cockpit,
10:05just because, again, it's the exact same figure.
10:07Molding-wise, excuse me, the molding doesn't seem to be any bit different.
10:11The shoulders are exactly the same, the same for his arms.
10:14I mean, clearly, though, with this one, his arms would be all black.
10:17Robin here likes to have bear arms and then sort of like elf gloves.
10:21Speaking elf, by the way, he does also have still his elf shoes,
10:24although the other one looked a little bit more subtle than the more, in-your-face, brighter green that he
10:30has in this case.
10:31Now, I was curious when we looked at this Robin if the heads could be swapped around.
10:35Clearly, because they're using the same body and ball pegs,
10:38you could technically pop this head off this one and use it with this one.
10:42I like the green for the mask.
10:44I think it still works well for Robin.
10:46One thing at least, though, is it matches the colors for the shoulders,
10:49matches the colors for the gloves,
10:50and matches the colors down below for his elf shoes.
10:53But let's just say you're somebody who likes black masks on your Robin.
10:56I'm just going to pop the head off the ball joint.
10:58Do the same on this side as well.
11:00And let's replace the head and see if it makes it any bit better.
11:04Now, I have a feeling it's already going to be better.
11:07I say that because I've already tried this.
11:09I think the black mask honestly does improve things a little bit better.
11:13The downside, though, to that now is because I don't have another Robin.
11:16Well, I don't have another black mask Robin.
11:19The only alternative, then, would be to use the green mask with the all-black outfit.
11:24I've looked at this already.
11:26I don't know.
11:27Does it look okay?
11:28I mean, there's not really green anywhere else on his body.
11:31Maybe the green does stand out.
11:32Maybe green for a mask on him does look better standing out like this.
11:37But, again, if you wanted to, I mean, it doesn't look like the skin color for his arms is any
11:41bit different, really, than his head.
11:42So, you probably could swap the heads around if you like a black mask Robin with a regular classic suit.
11:50We'll just pop this back off again because that's not where we found things.
11:53We always want to put things back the way that we found things.
11:56So, we just pop the head off.
11:58Pop the original head back in place.
12:01Ah, there we go.
12:02Almost.
12:04There we go.
12:04All right.
12:06As for the rest of Robin's outfit, obviously, the one thing that's different, too, is that he has the...
12:10Well, the R is the same.
12:11So, let's just put...
12:12I don't feel right not having Robin with a head on top of his body.
12:15Just pop that back into place.
12:18Ah, there we go.
12:20Okay.
12:20So, the differences of the outfits is the R's...
12:23Well, one's a little bit larger here in the classic outfit.
12:25Of course, he does have the stitching on the front, like the classic costume.
12:29This one's a little bit more modern.
12:31The utility belts do seem like they're the same.
12:33Although, this one looks like it's a little bit more of a brighter orange or a stronger orange.
12:38The capes.
12:39We flip this around.
12:40Now, that's one thing, actually, I probably should have mentioned when we looked at this Robin.
12:43I think he probably could have worked better, I think, having a black cape rather than a yellow cape.
12:49Yellow cape doesn't bother me at all, having it on the classic suit.
12:51But maybe it looks a little out of place when you're designing it and having it displayed with this Robin.
12:56Again, the legs are exactly the same.
12:58Backs are exactly the same.
13:00Head sculpts.
13:01Samesies.
13:02Samesies.
13:03For Robin's articulation, the head sculpt's going to be in a ball joint.
13:06I guess by now we've re-established that.
13:09Head can look up and down.
13:11It does move up, but I find, like, with Robin's head, it hits a point where, like, when you're going
13:16to move the head,
13:17it hits one thing that you have to kind of push a little harder to bring it up.
13:22I think it's probably just the fact that the back of the neck maybe gets stuck a little bit.
13:26But the head looks up really high.
13:27It looks really down low.
13:29Head can also rock back and forth as well.
13:31Of course, you can also rotate it all the way around, too.
13:33This arm does rotate all the way around.
13:35You can hinge it out comfortably, easily enough, at 90 degrees.
13:40There is no bicep swivel.
13:41None of these figures have had them so far.
13:44However, though, he has a swivel here in his forearm.
13:47He does have a single hinge in his elbow.
13:50And the hands do rotate all the way around.
13:54There's also a hinge there, too.
13:56Waist swivel.
13:57Standard waist swivel.
13:58Ball joint legs.
14:00Legs go forward and back.
14:02Swivel there.
14:03Three cords the way up the thigh.
14:05Double hinge on the knee, like with the previous Robin.
14:07And he only has standard swivels in his boots.
14:09No ankle articulation.
14:10Well, I guess he has ankle movement, but it doesn't move back and forth.
14:14It's a good-looking Robin.
14:15Robin, yeah, it is.
14:16Again, like if he had probably been planning to pick up a Robin, I don't know.
14:20Maybe there would be some interested people out there that probably would still probably
14:23want to get this Robin as their displayed way of displaying, you know, of course, Batman's
14:28sidekick.
14:28I do think, though, that the classic suit looks a little bit better on Robin, especially if
14:33you like, you know, again, like your characters that have, like, Batman's got all blue and
14:37gray.
14:37So if you like, you know, Robin as B sticking with those same sort of familiar colors, I
14:42think probably most people would gravitate more to this one.
14:44I still don't know why Mattel chose to have two Robins released in the exact same wave.
14:49I mean, yeah, I know one comes with the Robin cycle, which I just have right over here.
14:55So I guess if you wanted to, you could have this Robin also riding this cycle.
14:59But I think if anything, I probably would end up displaying Robin alongside Batman.
15:02That's the way it really should be.
15:04Batman and Robin, the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder.
15:07And of course, now that you've collected both of the core class figures, we have a corner
15:11centerpiece, which again, you could flip around and have it more like a box.
15:15Eventually, though, when we do get a Nightwing, now there is a Nightwing, there is a Batman
15:18and a Bane that's part of a three pack sold on Amazon.
15:22Forget about it.
15:23It had already sold out.
15:25So I'm going to kind of keep my eyes on that to see when it eventually drops again in stock,
15:29similar to the Robin, similar to the Joker.
15:32Both Joker and Robin seem to be the one hard figures to find.
15:36Batman wasn't so hard to find, nor could it be said for the Flash.
15:39I mean, either one of those figures were easily enough able to find.
15:42Yet Robin, though, and Joker still show his pre-orders on online sites.
15:47Up to about a week ago, they were still out of stock on Amazon.
15:51The inventory popped in.
15:52I jumped over to it and quickly added them to my cart.
15:55When Robin did eventually drop on Amazon, he dropped for the price of $19.78.
16:01That's not the price I paid!
16:02Well, no.
16:03No, if you lived in the U.S., likely that you probably would have paid a lot less than
16:07this Canadian collector.
16:08But still, though, under $20 for a full poseable figure like this, yes, he does have things
16:14that he lacks in.
16:15Like, he doesn't have, like, torso crunches.
16:17He doesn't have, for example, like ankle articulation in the way that you could move
16:20it like a ball joint.
16:21But still, though, pretty poseable figures.
16:24And just think, the DC Core, as far as I know, is still one that's going to be geared
16:27towards kids.
16:28We can only then expect that the premiere collection, when eventually Mattel drops any
16:32info on that, are going to be even cooler figures, with a much more posability that collectors
16:37have been sorely lacking.
16:39Overall, though, it's a nice-looking figure.
16:41Second time around, though, that we've gotten ourselves a Dick Grayson.
16:44It could also have been Tim Drake.
16:45Don't think it's probably Jason Todd.
16:47No, it's not Jason Todd.
16:49But whatever Robin you would think that this would be.
16:52It's the second time, though, that we've gotten both that character and that mold.
16:55The first time being around, even though I did do it the opposite way, I really, in
16:59hindsight, really should have waited, looked at this Robin first, then looked at the other
17:03one, being technically just a re-release of this one here.
17:07But just the way that it worked, and just the way that Amazon didn't have it in stock
17:10at the time, we're looking at it, crisscross, applesauce, we're working our way backwards.
17:17Still, though, nice-looking Robin.
17:18The cool thing, though, about the Joker that we're going to be having a look at in the upcoming
17:21review is that he also has then Jokerized head sculpt swaps.
17:25Head sculpt swaps.
17:27So you could swap it out technically with this Robin and have a Jokerized version of
17:30the character.
17:32Ooh.
17:32You know, now that I think about that, if there is a Jokerized version of Robin, I wonder
17:37then, maybe I could use the black mask Robin from the one that came in clue with his cycle
17:41and then put the Jokerized head on the other Robin.
17:45This is all ideas.
17:46Of course, that's just brewing in my head right now.
17:48I mean, none of it will come to fruition until eventually we get around to looking at Joker.
17:51And yes, yes, yes, Joker will be coming up shortly.
17:57If, in the meantime, though, you guys did enjoy this video, please do it, of course,
17:59the solid and hit it with a like.
18:01You guys want to stick around for more?
18:02So I do hope so.
18:04Got more content.
