00:09one week ago we talked about the jets offense leaving nashville with something to build on
00:14an offensive line that set the terms a running game that controlled possession and a quarterback
00:19who never hit the ground the jets they looked physical they looked comfortable and for one week
00:23it looked like they had found an offensive formula they could lean on well seven days later with a
00:2910.4th quarter lead they needed that formula again this time it was nowhere to be found no doubt
00:35aaron glenn is going to be questioned about his late game decisions following this one and he should
00:41but in a 20 to 17 overtime loss to green bay my biggest issue was simpler the jets offense had
00:47multiple chances to put this game away they couldn't do it the packers they finished with just 199 yards
00:53of offense jordan love threw for only 145 and green bay converted just one of nine third downs
00:58now the defense for the jets wasn't perfect there were way too many penalties and late breakdowns but
01:04it gave the jets an opportunity to win this game and after new york turned a fourth quarter takeaway
01:10into a field goal the jets they were up 17 to 7 with just over 11 minutes to go that
01:15should have been
01:15the moment the offense helped close the door instead three gangrene possessions three opportunities to
01:23extend the lead eat clock or at least change field position zero points for the jets after green bay
01:29cut the lead to three the jets they got the football back couldn't produce a first down before punting
01:34and the packers then got a 63 yard punt return that set up the tying field goal of course that
01:40return
01:41it's not on the offense however one sustained drive there changes the entire shape of the ending
01:47and that's what stood out to me the most compared to week one against the titans the jets could line
01:53up run the football keep a drive alive even when the defense knew exactly what was coming against
01:58green bay notably a much tougher opponent they just couldn't find that gear the gangrene running game
02:04was a non-factor in this one as they couldn't get anything going at all in week two breeze hall
02:1029 yards on 16 carries braylon allen seven yards on five that's not gonna get it done
02:16and then came the possession that may have best summed up the problem tie game under two minutes
02:21third and two near midfield hall gets one yard fourth and one the jets put braylon allen in
02:27shotgun green bay stuffs him turnover on downs sure you can question the formation you can question the
02:35play call and glenn he's gonna get scrutiny for the decision but the larger offensive problem is this
02:40the jets just didn't execute gangrene needed one yard to keep control of their own destiny
02:46and he couldn't get it it was tough but i still have a lot of trust in our run game
02:49and at that situation man i want to go try to win the game you know win a position to
02:55try to win it
02:55and then there's geno smith the box score doesn't look terrible 27 to 41 247 yards a touchdown no picks
03:03but there's another quarterback stat that matters here sacks in week one geno wasn't sacked once this
03:11week four times for a loss of 29 yards and two of them came on the first two plays of
03:17overtime and i
03:18want to be clear this isn't just on the offensive line who got a lot of love from me in
03:23week one
03:23sacks their quarterback stat too that doesn't mean every sack is geno's fault protection matters
03:29coverage matters and play design matters too but so does pocket management processing and knowing when
03:37the play is over and in overtime when the floundering jets offense couldn't afford negative plays
03:42they got them immediately in the extra session the jets they won the toss they elected to take the
03:47ball first and with a chance to take back control of a game that they let slip away the possession
03:52went
03:53backwards two sacks a false start third and 30 short completion and there was another punt and just
04:01like that the packers took the ball the other way and they won the game that sequence right there
04:06when the jets needed something positive tells me way more about this offensive performance than
04:12geno's 247 passing yards ever could and here's the irony when you look at the final box score you will
04:19see that the jets possessed the football for more than 37 minutes they outgained green bay they ran more
04:24plays and they didn't turn the ball over all facts but there's a difference between having possession
04:32and controlling the game when it came down to winning time the jets they stopped doing the things that
04:38had given them control it was all good just a week ago when the run game could sustain possessions
04:43geno stayed upright and the offensive line gave the jets a foundation sunday when they needed that
04:49foundation to protect the 10.4th quarter lead the running game couldn't move the chains geno took four sacks
04:55and the final three possessions produced the punt turnoff and downs and another punt now following this
05:02game there's going to be a lot of talk about aaron glenn's clock management and that conversation it's
05:07more than fair but after further review i don't think the jets should need their defense to make one
05:13more stop in a game where they held green bay under 200 yards the offense they had the lead they
05:19had the
05:19ball and they had multiple chances to finish the job now they have to learn how to close the door
05:25and win rather than leave it open for the opposition to take the game in week one the jets often
05:32showed
05:32us how it could control a game in week two showed us what happens when it can't
