00:00Jets rookie wide receiver, Arian Smith.
00:03My man is turning some heads in training camp,
00:05and I think his speed might be the infinity stone needed
00:08to unlock Justin Fields in the Jets' offenses passing game,
00:12potentially.
00:13Because look, it looks like the game is finally slowing down
00:16for this kid, and he's speeding up.
00:18He's put his 4-3-6 speed on tape a couple of times already
00:22in some of the practices.
00:24On Friday, he beat Sauce Gardner clean
00:26and caught a deep ball from Justin Fields down the right sideline.
00:30And in that same practice, caught a 25-yard dime from Tyrod Taylor,
00:35and it was a touchdown.
00:36Players, coaches, fans, media, everyone's taking notice.
00:41Being someone that's played the position before, though,
00:43the one thing that I think stands out most in the reports
00:46on this kid out of camp, he's turning red flags
00:50into a non-talking point.
00:52The biggest knock on this kid coming into the draft
00:55were his hands.
00:57He dropped the ball way too much at Georgia.
00:59In fact, Pro Football Focus had him with nine drops
01:03on 63 targets his senior year.
01:05That's a 17.6% drop rate.
01:08Both of those were top five and top ten in the country.
01:11Speed receivers usually don't catch the ball as well
01:14or as consistently as other receivers
01:17with different skill sets.
01:19Everybody knows that.
01:20Argue with your mama on that.
01:21It's a well-known fact.
01:22But Aaron Glenn says that he continues to improve
01:25and even showed him some love with his ability to catch in traffic.
01:29If the head coach is taking notice and showing you love,
01:33that means you're doing something right.
01:35Now, the Jets are still searching for a true wide receiver, too,
01:38to compliment Garrett Wilson.
01:40And I think right now it looks like Josh Reynolds will take that job.
01:44But I'm just saying, and listen here,
01:46don't sleep on Arian Smith.
01:47A couple of big plays and some consistency in some preseason games
01:51or maybe even at the start of the season.
01:54And I think that might be his job
01:55because like they say in the NFL,
01:57you can't teach speed.
