00:00Godzilla's first full-on fighting game in over a decade.
00:03You know Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is looking pretty dang good.
00:08I'd say for the most part everyone's positive and at the very least curious to get their
00:13hands on this new, sorta fighting game in the world of Kaiju and Godzilla.
00:17But I'm not gonna deny that I've been hard on it, so has Alistair and a good portion
00:22of the fandom actually.
00:23But enough of that because Pipeworks, I like this studio even with their questionable art
00:28direction choices.
00:29They don't seem to say much online and I get the sense they are a smaller team in
00:33the grand scheme of things and might not even be at the status they were 20 years ago when
00:38it comes to making big games.
00:40I honestly had no idea they were still around until this remaster was announced actually.
00:45But that's not necessarily a bad thing because behind the scenes they really do seem to be
00:51listening to feedback and finding ways they can improve their game while still keeping
00:56the energy of the remaster where they want it to be as well.
00:59It looks like there's a good chance that a studio and a community are actually working
01:04together to get the most from a product and that's worth celebrating.
01:09Good on you Godzilla community for helping to make a difference here.
01:12So a couple weeks back steam low key revealed multiple new high res images taken from the
01:18game without any of the UI or effects getting in the way.
01:21I know I'm super late but we've been pressed with minus zero news lately and we're just
01:26two guys here at Dangerville.
01:28Go ahead and subscribe to show some support for the channel.
01:30And after seeing these shots from the game I know that Pipeworks isn't just settling for
01:35good enough and are still improving their game weeks before release.
01:40I'm talking a pretty huge leap from the first teaser a few months back so let's not waste
01:45any more time.
01:46Let's get to it.
01:47The best one to start off with is this image of Mecha King Ghidorah.
01:51With this one we can get the most clear look at the upgrades the game has gotten since it
01:55was first revealed.
01:56We have a reference point.
01:58The detail is less fuzzy, everything is contrasting nicely making it all look more 3D and alive
02:04and you can just see an overall enhancement across the board here.
02:08A lot of this could have to do with the map and time of the day but it's still very
02:13clear
02:13that they have really worked on making the game look better.
02:17Still not the look I personally want but hey, you gotta give props to a game studio who keeps
02:22working to make their game as good as possible.
02:25Here's another image showcasing the upgrades with Orga which looks like the same scene we
02:30saw of the monster in the trailer.
02:32Not a massive leap but the difference is pretty obvious.
02:36Destroyah looked good in the trailer but he looks even better here.
02:39This might be the best image yet to show that a lot of work has been put into the Kaiju
02:44models
02:44in the remaster and I gotta give praise here.
02:48This is kick ass, looks gnarly in all the right ways.
02:51The lighting in the remaster might just be the most advanced bit of CGI tech that the
02:56game has to offer.
02:57In this next image we see Destroyah about to throw a building at Mechagodzilla or Kiryu
03:03over here.
03:04And you can see how the light is casting shadows like the sun is actually there and slowly
03:08going down causing its rays of light to hit the monsters, even the buildings, and stretch
03:13far out.
03:14But as good as the lighting and models do look for the most part, the map's details do suffer
03:19some drawbacks if you pay enough attention to them.
03:22If you look at this objectively and not like we've been starved for a real Godzilla game
03:27for half my life, the details in the map kinda look like a 10 year anniversary, not 25 years
03:34after the game first come out.
03:35I don't think it needs to be photo real by any means but I think in 2026 we can make
03:41some buildings that look a little more detailed than this.
03:45In the end though, I know I won't care about the detail as much when I'm actually playing.
03:50I do think you should notice this though.
03:52Look how badass my boy Anguirus is right here, looking like Rocky trying to toss Hulk Hogan
03:57over here.
03:58I gotta give my respect to Anguirus whenever I can since Toho or the Monsterverse doesn't
04:03seem to want to.
04:04I really like how they made the nighttime maps look in this remaster.
04:08It's dark but not too dark, and you get that nice ambient moonlight that allows for
04:13more badass shadows to appear.
04:15The shadows in this game might really be the best thing about it and I don't know
04:20why I'm excited for that, but I am.
04:23It's an odd thought to think some parts of the game can bother you so much but then others
04:28can just wow you.
04:30Like Gigan here.
04:31Gigan looks great and it's nice to see the monster back in action, but go ahead and take
04:36a bigger look at the greater scene here.
04:38This is a top tier visual scene playing out.
04:42And once again the lighting and skybox for this game steal the show I think.
04:47Seriously, did Pipeworks disappear to go perfect clouds the last two decades or what?
04:52You guys want to see Godzilla now?
04:53Pipeworks made a point to not use their Millennium Goji in these images.
04:58Please fix him.
04:59He's my favorite Toho Godzilla design.
05:01But here the G-Man looks good and the lighting.
05:04I should have just called this video Why Jacob Likes Lights at this point, but I'm
05:09just having fun with this casual breakdown and I hope you are too having a listen to me
05:13go on.
05:14Let me know if you want more videos like this.
05:16As long as you don't hyper focus on the details like how Godzilla is kind of just floating
05:22on the ground, then visually this all looks good.
05:25As good as it should be after 25 years, like I've said this looks like it was a remaster
05:32from 2012 or so, just with modern lighting, color grading and skyboxes.
05:38It does look good in its own way though I guess.
05:40I do want to quickly mention how much better the golden hour shots look than when they were
05:46first shown.
05:47It's a much more natural and cinematic look than it was before and manages to let some
05:53color into the scene this time around.
05:55If any of you are listening over there at the studio, seriously good work there and please
05:59keep it up.
06:00This final image is actually the one that stands out the most to me and it kind of made my
06:04fears
06:05that the game will be a visual headache kind of chill out.
06:09Without the random comic book UI and silly cartoon effects, this game just looks solid and
06:15more than good enough.
06:17Look at the depth of field of the city.
06:19Look how good Kiryu's metal looks shining in the sun.
06:22Look at just how full the map is with structures, trees and objects.
06:27And look at Godzilla for no reason other than it's Godzilla man.
06:30I do like that little pose though, reminds me of one of them 1920s boxers.
06:34Put em up eh?
06:36The fact that it's not night time, there's no golden hour colors or any weather effects
06:40other than some smog.
06:42HEDORA CONFIRMED!
06:43I'm not sure if it's just me or not, but this image makes the game look way better
06:47than anything else we've seen so far.
06:49This is pretty dang close to what I would come to expect from a remaster 25 years later.
06:55This is the direction the game should aim for at this point in its life cycle.
06:59And notice how you don't see that noisy barrier wall?
07:02Yeah, we don't need it to be this distracting.
07:05Give players more credit than that, we're gonna be able to learn that the maps have barriers.
07:09We don't need this massive visual display to tell us that.
07:13The old walls were much less noticeable and way easier on the eyes.
07:17So I'm still not sure who decided to go in this direction, but hopefully it can be tweaked
07:22before or even after the game comes out.
07:24The barrier walls are just objectively worse than the original, no matter if you like the
07:29comic book styling or not the remaster is bringing to the table.
07:33In the end, these images kinda dampened the sort of negativity I had towards the game
07:37after seeing the UI and comic book direction Pipeworks elected to go with instead of just
07:42updating the original.
07:44Still a bad decision though, I'm not gonna change my mind there, I'm sorry.
07:47But now I'm remembering just how fun this game or the old game was.
07:51I didn't worry about how things looked back then and had a ton of fun so now seeing that
07:56the game at its core, under the stylistic flair of the game, seeing it look this well put
08:02together and structured, has me ready to just have fun.
08:06Which is what it's all about, right?
08:08Before I go, I want to quickly mention that Talon and the Champions of Sarithia has officially
08:14started its kickstarter to get episode 2 and the rest of season 1 into full on production.
08:19We got some behind the scenes insight into Talon straight from the creator of the series
08:24herself so make sure and keep an eye out on Dangerville and our new uploads.
08:28So there you have it, another casual chat with you guys, share this video to any of your friends
08:33you're trying to convince to get the remaster, I know it's gonna be a hard sell to non-Godzilla
08:38fans, but let's do our part.
08:40This has been Jacob, and I'll see y'all in the next one.
