00:00When it comes to Godzilla, it'd be pretty hard to find a more iconic and awesome-looking monster,
00:05or for that matter, any character, monster or not.
00:09Godzilla's silhouette just stands out, and yeah, a lot of that has to do with him being hundreds of feet
00:13tall,
00:13but also because his design has been crafted and perfected for nearly a century.
00:18A character who has had countless generations give their own ideas for how the king of the monsters could be.
00:23And with Godzilla Minus Zero next in line, this new modern Godzilla design may just give all that came before
00:30it a run for their money.
00:31The mission for this video is simple.
00:33We're going to compare the designs of Godzilla from Minus One to Minus Zero,
00:38going over things that have remained the same, the differences, and why this mutation makes a ton of sense.
00:43For the most part, it seemed fans and audiences were happy with how Godzilla looked in Minus One.
00:48There were very few complaints that I can recall hearing about.
00:52But Takashi and his crew with the backing of Toho just found a way to make this design even more
00:57badass.
00:58Tell me what you think.
00:59Thanks to SH Monster Arts, we have what I think is the best look at the new design that has
01:04been revealed so far.
01:05So let's go ahead and compare the new design with the old one,
01:08and then I'll explain why I think the changes are happening.
01:11Here I have some images of both the SH Monster Arts Godzilla from Minus One,
01:16and their upcoming figure for Minus Zero.
01:19I actually really think both of these are awesome looking.
01:22But yeah, just remember, these are figures,
01:24so they aren't going to exactly be identical to the movie model necessarily,
01:28but that's only due to all the movable joints that have to be accounted for with this figure.
01:33So things may not be exactly how they will look for the new design in the movie,
01:38but it's like 99% what we will see,
01:40so it works for me.
01:41How about you?
01:42One thing you will notice with the new design is that the entire build is just overall way more aggressive,
01:48from his eyebrows to his toes, don't you knows?
01:51Starting from the very top, his center dorsal plate pops up about five times larger than in Minus One.
01:58I assume this will look less kind of random in the movie.
02:01I have no doubt there.
02:02From the neck up, this design looks 100% better.
02:07Godzilla's neck looks way more sturdy,
02:09and loses a bit of that overly elongated look.
02:13Oddly enough, Godzilla's head seems smaller in the new movie,
02:16but that could be just a figure manufacturing detail here,
02:20more than the actual official skull size of Godzilla.
02:23And when you turn the models to the side,
02:26it starts to make a lot of sense.
02:27Yes, Takashi likes himself Monster vs. Godzilla.
02:31That's super clear.
02:33And who can blame him, right?
02:34He's badass, man.
02:36But yeah, Minus Zero's skull size seems less pitbull,
02:39and more Monster vs. Godzilla.
02:41More reptilian, for sure.
02:43Functionality-wise, I'm not so sure why Takashi elected to make this skull smaller,
02:48but maybe it's better suited for physical combat.
02:51You know, less of a target.
02:53Who knows?
02:54Smaller head or not, though, Godzilla looks pissed this time around.
02:59The old design seemed more confused or just flat in expression,
03:03but clearly this time around, Godzilla means business.
03:06With this stern-faced look, that smaller skull and the thicker neck,
03:11this to me is more evidence that Godzilla's about to combat another monster in hand-to-hand combat.
03:17That's my guess.
03:18And if you're on the fence still, even after that,
03:21I think you're about to fall over onto my side after you focus on those shoulders.
03:25Damn!
03:26Godzilla in Minus One was no frail kaiju, but Minus Zero Goji is yoked.
03:32They say having big shoulders and trap muscles like this is a sign of athleticism in humans,
03:37and I'd say it's probably the same for Gojira, too.
03:40I think a lot of this has to do with Godzilla's arms being much larger.
03:44They are nearly human-like at this point,
03:47and I imagine this will allow him to grapple maybe even better than Monster vs. Godzilla,
03:52whose arms are slightly less human-like, and especially with the hands,
03:56which aren't nearly as grabby as Minus Zero Goji.
03:59It looks like the elbow spike will remain, but this time it's going to be much more pronounced and deadly.
04:04Moving down the body, Godzilla's midsection has been toned up some.
04:09Not the drastic change that we saw with Evo Godzilla, which is for the best.
04:14This is a much less drastic change to the G-Man's gut,
04:17and shows he's more in shape without looking odd.
04:21Which is a continued trend that you will see with this new design's build.
04:25Because you see this same change to a more physically capable Goji when you look at his legs.
04:31They are way, way more lean this time around.
04:35The old design may have had a classic Godzilla look to it,
04:38but I'm happier with these new-looking legs.
04:41Godzilla actually looks like he could move like an athlete, a real fighter.
04:45I mean, his figure stance here alone is one that screams,
04:49something is charging me, I better square up and lock in.
04:53And the legs are still pretty classic looking from the side, though.
04:56So if you like your Gojis on the thicker side, I think you're still going to be happy here.
05:01Let's talk about those feet.
05:03They are pretty much the same here.
05:05Three big toes and a smaller one off to the side.
05:08The only change is that they are somehow even bigger this time around.
05:14And that they have a more elongated and sharp look to the claws.
05:18Like they've grown out to be more effective, just like his hands.
05:21This mutation could be to help keep the G-Man grounded and stable.
05:26But we know how people are with Godzilla's feet.
05:29They always get a lot of attention for being feet, which worries me.
05:34I'm sure in the movie we won't even notice them.
05:37But give this video a like anyway for big Godzilla feet just to annoy Alistair some more.
05:42When it comes to overall detail, Godzilla's hide seems definitely more armored up this time.
05:47He's been working on those defensive buffs, that's for sure.
05:51Everything's larger, more pronounced, more angular, more sharp.
05:55Which is never more evident than when you take a look at these insane dorsal plates.
06:00There's some resemblance to these designs from the Minus One build still here.
06:05But I'm seeing a lot more variety in the shapes of the plates now.
06:09These right here look like the ones from Minus One.
06:11With these down here, that's straight up almost Monsterverse Godzilla.
06:16At this point everyone, I think all Godzilla fans should take a look at how Takashi Yamazaki seems to respect
06:23all Godzilla designs.
06:24And takes bits and pieces from them that he likes and carries them into his work wherever he can.
06:30This guy was made to make some Godzilla movies.
06:33Probably one of the better director choices for a big IP in recent memory for sure.
06:39He just seems to be a fan of all of Godzilla.
06:42And that's actually rare.
06:44But he has thrown in some new stuff.
06:46He's decided to add these larger spikes around the body, like on the shoulders.
06:51Which does give Cruella DeVille vibes, but I'm all for it.
06:55And these massive side tail plates, which actually were on the design in Minus One.
07:00Just way less noticeable.
07:01Overall, these spikes and dorsal plates make sense for a Godzilla who's been reborn.
07:07It's still the same being in essence, but just reformed into a more advanced state.
07:13A proper full body mutation that keeps the look close enough to the original without it being jarring or splitting
07:20the fanbase.
07:21So why is Godzilla mutating to be more powerful?
07:24Well, there's about 30 other movies that will probably give you a good explanation why.
07:29This is a Godzilla designed not to fight humans.
07:33This is Godzilla ready to destroy all monsters.
07:37But officially, no monster has still been named.
07:41Still though, it's a sequel.
07:42You have to step it up this time around.
07:44Godzilla has to be more impressive this time.
07:47Now we just have to wait and see how it comes to life on screen.
07:51And I can't wait.
