00:00We just passed $1,000 in our Titans Against Blood Cancer fundraiser.
00:04I cannot thank you enough for those who donated so far.
00:06Our goal is to reach $2,500 by the end of the month,
00:10so we can help prevent more losses like the icon Sam Neill to this terrible disease.
00:14So if you can help us reach that goal, then you'll be forever a Dangerville legend.
00:19Welcome home residents, it's your May Alistair back with a dive into the world of the Monsterverse.
00:24Because as many of you might know,
00:25the next entry in the Kaiju Cinematic Universe has released in the form of Kong X Godzilla.
00:32This new entry has bombastic action, returning fan-favorite Kaiju,
00:37including the one and only King of the Monsters,
00:40and yes, may even hint at the future of the Monsterverse.
00:44That being, Godzilla X Kong Supernova.
00:48So today we're going to take a look at the story of Kong X Godzilla,
00:51what happened, how it changes the lore,
00:54and whether it will have an impact on the rest of the franchise.
00:58We'll also be giving our thoughts on the ride,
01:00because we definitely have some.
01:03Stay tuned for that today, at Dangerville.
01:09Legendary have just released Kong X Godzilla The Ride,
01:12which, while, yes, is a theme park attraction,
01:15it also tells a brand new story,
01:17set after the events of Godzilla X Kong The New Empire.
01:20And, if this is canon,
01:22there are actually a few interesting details
01:25that could have bigger implications going forward.
01:28Now, I'm going to keep images of the ride to a minimum,
01:31since it seems Legendary doesn't want anyone seeing this thing,
01:34but I'll have more to say on that when I give my thoughts at the end,
01:37which might get a little ranty.
01:40The ride begins at Monarch Outpost M42,
01:44a brand new Monarch facility
01:45that's been constructed directly above one of Hollow Earth's vile vortexes.
01:50Rather than sending explorers through a natural entrance like we've seen before,
01:54Monarch has effectively turned the vortex into a controlled gateway.
01:58Guests board the upgraded Heave vehicles,
02:00which are designed to survive the impossible gravitational shift inside Hollow Earth,
02:05before descending into the unknown.
02:07As the vehicles pass through the vortex,
02:10you're immediately surrounded by Hollow Earth's bizarre wildlife.
02:14Flying verticines soar past,
02:16while crystal crawlers cling to the surrounding terrain,
02:19helping establish just how different the world is
02:21to the Monarch facility you departed from.
02:24In the distance,
02:25the verticines begin flocking towards a massive crystal-covered volcano,
02:30which is when everything goes south.
02:32The volcano violently erupts,
02:34but this isn't an ordinary volcanic explosion.
02:37Instead of just lava and ash,
02:39it releases a huge wave of glowing blue energy
02:42that spreads across Hollow Earth.
02:45It instantly feels like something has gone wrong,
02:48almost as though the eruption itself
02:50has disturbed the balance of the Titan's ecosystem.
02:53Even Doug isn't safe.
02:55He's wandering nearby when a fireball launched from the eruption
02:58bonks him directly on the head,
03:01which is extremely funny,
03:02giving you some humor before the Kaiju side action really begins.
03:06We see this big Kong animatronic,
03:08which just looks so cool.
03:10It kind of reminds me of that one from Universal.
03:12The eruption attracts Kong,
03:14who arrives to investigate whatever caused the disturbance.
03:17As he explores the area,
03:19he notices several strange crystals scattered across the landscape.
03:23One of them is green,
03:24which he picks up and examines,
03:26while another formation contains glowing blue crystals
03:29embedded inside the surrounding rock.
03:32Kong smashes the rock apart,
03:34almost as if he's trying to understand what these crystals are
03:37or why they're suddenly becoming active,
03:40which may or may not be because Space Godzilla is approaching Earth.
03:44It's a small moment,
03:45but it suggests these crystals could be playing a much bigger role
03:48in Hollow Earth's energy system.
03:50Before Kong can investigate further,
03:52a group of warbats attack.
03:55The Monarch heaves are caught right in the middle of the ambush
03:57as Kong begins fighting off the giant serpents.
04:01One warbat swoops towards the vehicle,
04:03forcing Kong to physically pull one of the heaves out of danger
04:06before it can be swallowed whole.
04:08At the same time,
04:09Suko arrives to help,
04:11throwing enormous boulders at the attacking creatures,
04:14while Kong tears through one of them with sheer brute strength.
04:17The chase continues across Hollow Earth's twisted terrain
04:20as Kong climbs towering mountains,
04:23leaps between cliffs,
04:24and battles the warbats while trying to protect the Monarch expedition.
04:27Eventually,
04:28the heaves take refuge inside a nearby cave,
04:31but Hollow Earth never stays safe for long.
04:34Inside the cave,
04:35guests catch glimpses of other familiar titans,
04:38including Scylla,
04:39lurking deeper within the tunnels,
04:41while glowing spider-like creatures
04:43crawl across the cave walls.
04:46Which I actually like,
04:48it shows that the Hollow Earth is teeming with monstrous,
04:50almost alien life
04:51that we've only barely scratched the surface of.
04:54One of the warbats suddenly crashes straight through the cave wall
04:57in an attempt to reach the heaves.
05:00Kong immediately grabs hold of it
05:01and brucily pounds it into the ground
05:03before another warbat tries the exact same trick.
05:07This time,
05:08Kong simply grabs its jaws
05:09and rips them apart,
05:11finally ending the attack.
05:13With the warbats defeated,
05:15the expedition continues deeper underground
05:17until they unexpectedly encounter Shimo.
05:22Of course,
05:23at the end of Godzilla X Kong The New Empire,
05:25Shimo was freed from the control of Skarking
05:28after the crystal was destroyed,
05:30so you'd expect her to be chill.
05:31However,
05:32in the ride,
05:33Shimo is furious,
05:35for reasons that could only allude towards Supernova.
05:38She immediately unleashes her frostbite towards the heaves,
05:42forcing Kong to step in front of the blast.
05:44Using his battle axe as a shield,
05:46he blocks the freezing cold beam
05:48before knocking Shimo away from the vehicles.
05:51A full-scale battle quickly breaks out between the two titans,
05:55with Monarch's heave even contributing a few energy blasts of their own.
05:58Although they're obviously insignificant
06:00compared to the monsters fighting around them,
06:03the fight becomes so destructive
06:04that everyone falls through another vile vortex,
06:07transporting them into an entirely different part of the earth.
06:10Instead of emerging in another wilderness,
06:13they arrive inside what appears to be Seoul, South Korea,
06:17which is actually where this ride is based,
06:19where the battle continues.
06:21Shimo immediately turns her attention back to the vulnerable heaves,
06:24but before she can attack,
06:26Godzilla suddenly charges into the battle
06:28and tackles her away from the humans.
06:30Now the ride transforms into the team-up fans have wanted to see.
06:34Kong and Godzilla fight side by side against Shimo.
06:37Kong even grabs two enormous tanker-like structures
06:41and uses them as makeshift clubs
06:43while Godzilla begins charging his atomic breath.
06:46Shimo answers with another frostbite,
06:48resulting in the two beams colliding head-on.
06:50And before Shimo can overpower Godzilla,
06:53Kong interrupts by striking her with his battle axe.
06:57Godzilla then fires another blast directly into the axe,
06:59supercharging it just like during the Mechagodzilla battle.
07:03Kong swings the now fully energized weapon into Shimo,
07:06creating a massive shockwave
07:08that finally overwhelms her and ends the fight,
07:11bringing her rampage to an end
07:13and allowing the heaves to escape safely
07:15after successfully protecting both Monarch and Hollow Earth
07:18from the chaos unleashed by the mysterious eruption.
07:21Now that's where I'm going to leave the story,
07:24because this is where things start to get really interesting.
07:27The ride introduces these mysterious crystals,
07:29a huge burst of unknown energy,
07:31and a version of Shimo behaving completely differently
07:34to how we last saw her.
07:36Legendary have previously stated
07:38that they've worked with the attraction's creators
07:40to ensure the story fits within the wider MonsterVerse continuity.
07:44So, are these simply ideas created for the ride,
07:47or are they quietly setting up something much bigger
07:50for Godzilla X Kong Supernova?
07:52Before we get into that,
07:54be sure to subscribe to become a resident of Dangerville today.
07:5765% of you aren't for some reason,
07:59so do it, or else Godzilla will eat you.
08:04Now, one thing that seemed consistent throughout the ride
08:07was just how prevalent these crystals were to its story.
08:10These crystals are found all across the Hollow Earth,
08:13and seem to be what illuminates the landscape,
08:16holds radioactive energy,
08:17and even has some potentially mystic
08:19and even mind-controlled properties.
08:22In the first few minutes of the ride,
08:24when Kong is investigating,
08:25he finds this green crystal.
08:27This focus on crystals may imply
08:29she is being controlled by something yet again.
08:32Because if you don't remember,
08:33Skarking was able to command her to do his bidding,
08:36because this crystal was telepathically connected to her
08:39and caused her great pain.
08:41And in the ride,
08:42the battle was only won
08:44when a force was powerful enough
08:45to seemingly subdue her.
08:47That being Kong's supercharged axe,
08:50the one thing that could destroy the crystal in the new empire.
08:53Now, it's been rumored that in Supernova,
08:56Space Godzilla's crystals will have the ability
08:58to mind-control other Titans.
09:01And not just the lesser ones,
09:02but Alpha Titans as well.
09:05In fact, Space Godzilla himself
09:07seems to be infested with these crystals
09:10that alter the very mind of the Titans.
09:13It's been long suggested that the Hollow Earth crystals
09:15are somewhat linked to the Cosmic Terror.
09:18And that Skarking's crystal
09:20was even linked to his mind-control capabilities.
09:23So, in the commotion from the volcanic explosion,
09:26one of these crystalline shards
09:27may have temporarily infected Chimo,
09:30sending her on a rampage.
09:32And she was only freed
09:33when that crystal was dislodged and shattered
09:36after the huge shockwave from Kong's attack.
09:39If this is accurate,
09:40then we may see more Titans infected in a similar way,
09:44where previously docile and even friendly monsters
09:46will turn on the Alpha Titans and become destroyers.
09:50But what Titans may they be?
09:52Let us know who you think in the comment section down below.
09:57Now, I do have some thoughts on the ride itself,
10:00but I have to preface that
10:01I haven't gone on the ride.
10:03Legendary didn't invite us to check it out,
10:05so I'm basing it entirely off this POV video
10:07that someone uploaded to YouTube.
10:08And I have to say,
10:10is that it?
10:12You move slowly from one screen to another?
10:14It seems pretty underwhelming to me.
10:17Now, the CGI itself was impressive for a ride.
10:20It's all very well done
10:21and looks like it came straight from the movie.
10:23I have zero complaints there.
10:25And Kong's cooler than he's ever been here,
10:28fighting with more agility
10:29than we even saw in the new Empire.
10:31But the screens themselves
10:32don't blend in with the scenery at all,
10:34and the set design is just super flat.
10:37The Monarch facility looks great,
10:39but then they transition to the Hollow Earth
10:40and it just looks kind of like the same boxy environment,
10:44but now with a vaguely rocky and crystal texture.
10:47Compared to the ride at Universal,
10:49where the screens feel like a part of the environment,
10:51and they can actually help immerse you into the experience.
10:55This is more like you're watching a movie
10:56off like 12 different screens
10:58while being slowly moved by a chairlift.
11:00I just think they could have done a better job.
11:02And what is this?
11:04Why is this the angle they chose to put the audience in?
11:06It's like that meme of someone sat in the front row of Oppenheimer
11:09where it's just straight up chin.
11:11Why aren't we just watching two screens at this horrific angle?
11:14At least move the cars close to the center or something.
11:17The animatronics are great
11:18and seeing Scylla up close is super cool,
11:20so I have no complaints there.
11:22It's just overall it feels like they could have done a lot more.
11:25And I get it's not got the budget of Universal or Disney,
11:28but it's still reported to have nearly $40 million spent on it,
11:33which I guess mostly went on the animation.
11:35I obviously know it will be cooler to ride in real life,
11:38and I still hope I get to check this out
11:40and maybe it'll change my mind.
11:42But right now, I can't help but feel slightly let down in some areas.
11:46Also, the person that posted the ride POV has privated the video,
11:50which makes me think that Legendary has come after them.
11:53But I have to say, this isn't like someone pirating a movie.
11:56You can't just stream it or rent it or go to the cinema to see it.
12:00People have to spend thousands to actually experience this.
12:04It's a luxury not many people will have.
12:06So threatening strikes or lawsuits just because someone allowed people
12:10that might not be able to spend $3,000 on a trip to South Korea
12:14to actually watch this thing is actually just kind of crazy to me.
12:18In summary, the ride may have some things that hint towards the plot points
12:22in the upcoming Godzilla X-Kong Supernova,
12:25where Space Godzilla's crystals could infect and alter the minds
12:28of the towering titans that are meant to protect us.
12:30But whether it will actually come to fruition
12:33is something we'll have to wait and see for.
12:35But what do you think about the ride?
12:36Let us know in the comment section down below.
12:39Give us a Kong-sized thumbs up, because it helps the algorithm and all that.
