00:24Yeah, we talked about, you know, what these realistic track conditions were going to be like.
00:30Julian Beaumare picking up where he left off in qualifying practice earlier today.
00:35Building on that momentum, guy has been absolutely on a roll all day long, and that was a dominant start.
00:45DeFrancisco second, Davies fifth, and Adams third.
00:49We have not seen many good starts from Adams, the second-year pro.
00:51Going to see what he can do on the 35 of Beaumare.
00:54Off to the races and flying.
00:56Yeah, there's been something about this round.
00:58Julian's been putting it down.
01:00And even the guy in second, Roderick D, I talked to him yesterday.
01:03I'm like, Roderick, is this the weekend?
01:05He said, I hope so.
01:06So these guys are out here.
01:08And again, Drew Adams in third place has always shown some speed.
01:11He needed to get a start.
01:12Now he has one in the playoffs.
01:13And then we start getting into those championship containers with Levi and Cole Davies.
01:19Yeah, it will be interesting back there with Kitchen and Davies.
01:22See him come through next to 47.
01:23And in the 37 right behind him, Beaumare has already moved out by two seconds.
01:32And check this out.
01:33Had contact early in the race as they came back from the start.
01:36Look at this big bowl turn.
01:38Well, like I was saying, it was moving days.
01:40What you're going to see is Cole Davies on the far end side.
01:42And this is kind of just that racing.
01:44Ends up getting into Drew Adams there or one of these guys.
01:48Yeah, that was Menear.
01:49I don't think that Menear, they didn't anticipate each other coming in like that.
01:54And now they have to roll.
01:55The red cross no jump flag is out.
02:00Max Boland, who was fourth last week, is the one who was down.
02:04I hope he's okay.
02:05Now they can crank it back up.
02:06James, I just want to expand on Ryder DiFrancisco in the two spot right here.
02:11I talked to him this morning as well.
02:13And you can just see that confidence.
02:15Now he finished the Pro Motocross Championship with a good run.
02:19Some really consistent finishes.
02:21And this kid was very, very dominant in his amateur career.
02:25And it's cool to see just where he is.
02:28And him getting back to that form that he was.
02:31And kind of what we thought he could be as a young amateur rider.
02:36Great job.
02:38A little mistake for the leader.
02:39And that has allowed DiFrancisco to catch him.
02:41Bomer hanging in there, Will.
02:43That's right.
02:44And it's that great start that the guys talked about there that's made such a difference here for Juju Bomer.
02:49I talked before we went racing there and said how much the teams are focusing on it.
02:53Well, Julian stayed in California with the KTM team this week.
02:57They worked on starts.
02:59Carlos Rivera, the crew chief there, told me this is a little bit about bike.
03:02We did some clutch stuff, a little bit about him.
03:04And he said, the reason being is we know how much it matters.
03:08He said all these guys are incredibly fast.
03:10If you're out front and you can stay there and you have that little gap that we just saw of
03:14mistakes, as we see another one get made, that's the difference maker.
03:17Yeah, this is what I love about the playoffs and just these shorter races for these guys.
03:22I mean, just the intensity.
03:23They've got to go at it.
03:24I mean, it's five minutes longer than their normal, but it feels a lot shorter because they don't have the
03:28whoops.
03:29They know it's all out.
03:30You saw a huge mistake by Juju, which is going to close down the field.
03:33And you never really know what happens there as you've got Levi Kitchen, our points leader, and Cole Davies, the
03:39guy who was our points leader, starting to close up.
03:41Well, with how this racetrack is today, like James, you were talking about it being so fast.
03:48To make a move, you really have to be right on the guy's rear tire.
03:51And if he moves just a little bit, boom, you execute the pass right here like Cole Davies is trying
03:56to make the move on Levi Kitchen.
04:00Going to be tough to pass here today because the track is so fast and everybody is so close in
04:05speed.
04:07Oh, Davies had it for a second.
04:08Kitchen was able to escape in that rhythm.
04:12Now headed into the big sand turn.
04:14They've actually got the third place rider, Adams, in sight.
04:16You might have all five of these riders hooking up soon.
04:19Here's Davies.
04:19Another attack up the inside.
04:21It makes it happen.
04:22Yeah, you just called it, Ricky, just when you make these moves.
04:25And I think Levi kind of got caught sleeping.
04:27And that's one of the areas that you wouldn't think that Cole was able to scrub it, stay lower.
04:31And he was on the inside.
04:32Levi had to kind of give that pass.
04:34And now you're going to watch that 37 try to get some space in between him because the one guy
04:38he doesn't want to come back is the 47 as he's already starting to pull away.
04:42Well, intensity and pace and tempo is going to be the tail here at this racetrack.
04:48It is extremely fast.
04:50And you cannot rest.
04:52You cannot sleep anywhere on that because of the tempo of this track.
04:56It is fast.
04:57And Adams has to look over his shoulder and realizes, where did Davies come from?
05:02He is right there.
05:03And in the split lane, they picked the same option.
05:06And Davies still able to make the pass.
05:08Jay, I mean, Davies doesn't even make this track look like it's multi-groove.
05:12Let me tell you how amazing it is what he's able to do to be able to take alternate lines
05:17on a track like we were just telling you about, James.
05:19That's incredible.
05:20Yeah, well, I don't know if he's really taking alternate lines.
05:22He's just moving faster than everybody going out in the same line.
05:25That, too.
05:26And we talked about Cole Davies last week.
05:28Just has that in factor.
05:29You know, when it's time to get it done, this guy wasn't as strong as in practice.
05:33Maybe looked like he was, you know, off a little bit.
05:36But nonetheless, as we're looking at Max Boland in the bottom screen, Cole Davies shows up for the gate time.
05:41And he understands that today is the day he needs to claw back some of the points.
05:45Boland was the one that's where the red cross flag was out.
05:47It doesn't look like he's too, too bad, but hurt enough, whatever it is, to not reenter the race.
05:53I love that drone shot from behind, especially in the sand sections or following Cole Davies through this split lane

06:01JT, Cole Davies is absolutely on rails in another league.
06:05He looks incredible.
06:06And you nailed it right there, Ricky, because what I'm watching is what I used to see from Hayden Deegan
06:12in this 250 class.
06:13He has now taken the mantle of the guy that every single time the gate drops, indoors or out, or
06:19in these hybrid playoffs,
06:20he believes he should be at the front no matter where he starts, like he did on the outside gate
06:24pick last week,
06:25or where he has to pass through to get there.
06:27He has just taken this to another level, both mentally and physically.
06:31I think he's going to try to win every race from here on out in his 250 career.
06:34Spot on, Jason Thomas.
06:36And if you listen to what JT was talking about on his report, the keyword, he believes.
06:41He believes he can get up front.
06:43He believes that he should be here.
06:45And he is doing this the hard way.
06:48And, James, you know better than anybody.
06:49There isn't a better feeling than marching your way through the pack and passing all of your main contenders.
06:55No, it's not.
06:56And the funny part is that I bet it's pretty easy for him to do this.
06:59It's like once you kind of get in the rhythm and you know you're going to get up there, you
07:03know, it's like taking a math test,
07:04but you already know all the answers.
07:06It's just an easy add-add.
07:07And the funny part is the riders know around you.
07:10Cole Davies' competition, they feel his presence.
07:13So a lot of things have worked in his favor.
07:15And make no mistake, the 37 E is here, and he's going to let these guys know in a second.
07:19I think what James wanted to say was, like, following me in 2006 and the Wolves could just do you
07:25had it.
07:26No comment.

07:28Yeah, but it's just a great feeling.
07:31I mean, like, you could see the alternate lines that Cole is able to take, like James was saying.
07:37That's because he has that speed advantage.
07:39Now, the biggest thing is when he catches up to these guys to not fall into their pace.
07:44Keep that intensity that he had the first two or three laps.
07:48A little bit further back, bottom box is Shimoda working on Thrasher.
07:53That is for eighth place.
07:54He's ninth is the defending SMX champion.
07:58Shimoda, who had a bad race in the mud, is still getting back up to speed after a collarbone injury.
08:03Knocked him out of the Pro Motocross Championship battle, where he was the point leader when he went out.
08:07So, Shimoda, who was actually uncharacteristically quick in qualifying third, working on his way up.
08:14Yeah, and I think, you know, as you just said, he's coming back from an injury.
08:17And what we saw in practice was Joe actually finding, like, he found his speed during the week.
08:22But here in the playoffs, everything's about intensity.
08:25And coming back from an injury, that's the one thing that you lack from not racing is that intensity.
08:29So, it's not surprising to kind of see Joe not have it.
08:33And it's really struggling in the playoff, Katie.
08:35Yeah, here with Maxwell and someone who was struggling out there, he got landed on.
08:39You said you're pretty beat up, but you think you're all right.
08:41You got a cut on your forehead and yawn.
08:43What's going on?
08:43Yeah, I just made a small mistake.
08:46And the guy in front of me, I just didn't know if he was going to cross that big double
08:48and if he was going to commit.
08:49And he committed last second.
08:51I had no room I had to back out of the double.
08:53And, yeah, I just got jumped into the back of whoever was behind me.
08:57And, yeah, it was just carnage from there.
08:59So, so far, I feel somewhat okay.
09:01Like, muscles are going to be hurting and sore.
09:03But hopefully I can get back out there for the next photo.

09:16Yeah, I think right now what you're watching is Cole Davies, like, he did that initial blitz.
09:20Because I think for him, one of his biggest competitions is the 47 and Levi Kitsch.
09:23Once he cleared him, the way he fought these guys, these two leaders, I think now he's settling down.
09:29As Levi obviously went down because now he's behind Joe Shimoda.
09:33But, you know, back on the Cole Davies, I think now he's taking a break.
09:36He understands it's just halfway.
09:37He's got plenty of time.
09:38So, you almost rest, Ricky, get a regroup, and then you'll go in a blitz attack as long as you're
09:43not getting any pressure from the back, which he's not.

09:47That is Thrasher.
09:48That was a hard slap for Thrasher.
09:51Wow!
09:54Thrasher had a good run going, getting up into the top five, and that's over for him.
09:59I was just going to say, yeah, before Thrasher crashed, glad to see him get back up.
10:05Man, he slapped the back of his head pretty hard there, landing on his back.
10:10But, Levi Kitchen, you're starting to wonder, is something up that we don't know about because he's going back quick.
10:16Yeah, well, I think he went down in one of these corners, but just kind of the intensity here is
10:20Nate Thrasher.
10:21You can see him.
10:22Cross run.
10:22Yeah, he gets a little cross run it, getting close to those tough locks.
10:25And, Ricky, as you know, when you're wide open, those things grab you like a gator pick, and it slams
10:30it down.
10:30So, good to see the 25 back up.
10:32Great ride for Julian, stepping up.
10:35And I think this is one, like I said, we talk about it every single weekend here at SMX, and
10:40how important the starts are.
10:42However, I do feel on certain tracks, especially a style of track like this, that it's very, very fast, and
10:49the tempo is really, really high, that the start is much more important.
10:55But he can't get away from DeFrancisco racing here in his home state.
10:59We asked him out in the home track vibes yesterday.
11:04California is always a good one.
11:06I always look forward to A1 every year, and then also this one.
11:10Like I said, I still got to click off that first win, and it would be great to do it
11:13in front of a hometown crowd.
11:15But, yeah, I mean, it's only, you know, I got here this morning in 25 minutes.
11:19It was nice sleeping in my own bed, and, yeah, it should be a really good weekend, friends and family,
11:24and hopefully I can get it done.
11:27Well, the interesting thing, guys, when I get to speak with Ryder D on the podium, you know, the shift
11:32that's undergone with him,
11:34where he was just talking about trying to find success, trying to find his place in his 25th class over
11:38the last couple years,
11:39to every single time he has an opportunity to talk, now it's shifted to winning.
11:43He only talks about, I've got to find a way to win.
11:46Winning is the only possible outcome for me now.
11:48So, that really gives you some insight to where his head is.
11:52He knows he's supposed to be at the front.
11:54Now, it's all about the winning.
11:55It's not going to be easy, though, JT, because another charge from Davies tripling in before the sand section.
12:03And as they begin to battle, Bomer putting a little more time into the mistake from the 34.
12:08And we know Davies is quick here.
12:10Yeah, watch the different lines that Cole Davies will take right here.
12:13Rarely is he going to take the same line as Ryder D Francisco.
12:16Goes back to what James was saying and that speed advantage that he has.
12:20He's able to deviate from the main line 2 to 3 inches, 5 inches on each side,
12:25whether it's to the left or to the right of the rider in front of him.
12:29Yeah, I think Cole's understanding that now.
12:30It's with 7 1⁄2 minutes left.
12:32Juju's starting to get away.
12:34You know Ryder D's going to be tough to pass.
12:36You don't want that gap to get too far out front.
12:38So, I think where he's going to get, possibly, if he doesn't get up before,
12:41is where he passed Levi Kitchen.
12:43I think if he stays closer to that sand section, you know,
12:46just scrubbing that finish line jump should put him on the inside,
12:49but he's got to be close to him.
12:50And don't forget also that the SMX playoffs is a two-moto format.
12:56So, a second can be just as good as a first, that first moto,
13:00especially if you're able to come out of here with the win on this second round.
13:04In the bottom, Kitchen, the point leader, struggling right now.
13:07He's in ninth, battling with Dylan Schwartz, and it is tightening up front.
13:12Line to selection there from Davies, side-by-side with DeFrancisco.
13:16Yeah, he wanted to do it.
13:17He tried to get on the inside, just kind of lost a little bit of momentum.
13:20But, you know, the fact is that these two are battling,
13:22and they're closing in on Julian Beaumere up front.
13:26We've got a three-router lead for this win.
13:27Yeah, Ben, Beaumere had pulled away.
13:29They've gotten back to him.
13:30Maybe a mistake on his part,
13:32and it is three bikes dueling for the lead.
13:35Will.
13:39Guys, I'm just trying to look at Cole Davies right now, racing,
13:44and think back to qualifying.
13:46And it wasn't like qualifying was bad.
13:47He ended up sixth overall.
13:49But what is it?
13:50Cole Davies said to me,
13:51Hey, I'm not a qualifier.
13:52I'm a racer.
13:53Let's go racing.
13:54What is it about some of these riders,
13:57as he tries to learn the pass out,
13:58what is it about some of these riders
13:59where it comes to gate drop,
14:01and suddenly, like, everything that we've seen in qualifying
14:03doesn't really make a whole ton of sense anymore.
14:06Yeah, because he definitely has the speed right now,
14:08and that's that ick factor you've been talking about, James.
14:10Yeah, it's the ick factor.
14:11And I think a lot of it's just from, you know, doing it.
14:14You know, a lot of these guys are fast.
14:16As we see it in practice,
14:17Cole wasn't even close to the lead,
14:19but when it comes to the race,
14:21it's just winning before
14:22and having that belief in yourself
14:23where the other guys haven't,
14:25it just changes a lot of things.
14:27It spins one way for one guy,
14:28and then slows the other guy down.
14:30That's why it's so easy to get wrapped up
14:33in lap times and qualifying practice
14:35where you take a guy like Cole Davies
14:38where he just finds that way
14:39and has that ick factor to get it done.
14:42You know, when the gate drops,
14:44he said you can't put too much stock
14:46in a guy like that in qualifying practice.
14:49Of course.
14:49Does he want to have a good showing?
14:51Absolutely, but it's not everything.
14:53Oh, now he goes to the inside of the split lane.
14:55New line for him, and it's going to work.
14:57Yes.
14:58Oh, but then he goes down to the sand.
15:00Saw it coming from a mile away, James, huh?
15:02Yeah, I mean, he was trying to get through that sand,
15:05and if you notice,
15:05he hasn't taken that line the whole race,
15:07and that's all I love about the playoffs
15:09because now, just like last weekend,
15:11Cole was your best rider.
15:12He was the fastest guy in this,
15:13and now he's in fourth place having to rebound.
15:17Yeah, this is where the double points rares its head right here,
15:21so at least he needs to catch up to third.
15:25Second look, he's going to come in there
15:27with way too much speed to try to make the pass
15:31on Ryder D
15:32and just asks too much out of that front end,
15:35buries the front end, and it's game over.
15:37Great pass up until he goes down, though.
15:40Not a lot of riders using that inside,
15:42the outside being the dominant line,
15:44and there you can see, boom.
15:46Yeah, you can see there was two lines,
15:47and he missed that one on the inside,
15:49got in that middle,
15:50and he was like,
15:51man, why does crew put the sand on the racetrack?
15:54Well, Davies came in with a 10-point deficit.
15:57A race win would have gone a long way to a race that,
15:59but starting to run out of mulligans
16:01in a three-race playoff format.
16:04Back to fourth right now.
16:05Like you said, RC,
16:06you know he would at least like to get to Adams for third.
16:10450 riders, including Hayden Deegan,
16:12his mechanic, Brent Duffy,
16:14they're headed down the line for their first moto,
16:15but pressure's on Davies now.
16:17Yeah, and the thing about thinking about championship
16:20and the SMX World Championship,
16:22I'm already anticipating next week,
16:25and Missouri is like,
16:26if you're Cole Davies or any of the other riders
16:28as it stands right now,
16:29you have to go out and win next weekend
16:31and maybe need a little bit of help,
16:33assuming DeFrancisco has a bad weekend
16:37or is running well.
16:39So anyhow, it's exciting.
16:42Yeah, with Kitchen having a bad one here,
16:43as you see Ken Roxen getting ready for 450 Moto1
16:46and Beaumare having a bad race last weekend,
16:49currently, it would be DeFrancisco to the lead
16:53in the SMX World Championship point.
16:56So everyone has had some rough luck in the 250s,
16:58except DeFrancisco.
17:00as Roxen's getting ready to go racing
17:02and time running out of Moto1.
17:03James, I want to give it up to Julian Beaumare.
17:06I mean, this guy,
17:07he is not cracking whatsoever from the pressure, JT.
17:12No, Rick, he's been about as solid
17:14as you could possibly ask for,
17:15and just before we came on the main broadcast,
17:17that interview with him,
17:18I asked a very direct question,
17:20like, what's it going to take?
17:22And I was kind of waiting for him to say,
17:23well, you know, kind of clawed my way back in.
17:25And no, he said, no, no, I just need to go win.
17:27You know, there is no other answer
17:29to get back into the fight here
17:30other than going out and winning.
17:32And you start to see these riders
17:34understanding the playoff picture
17:36and the double and triple points
17:37and how potent that can be
17:40to get hot at the right time.
17:42You have to say, so far,
17:43Julian Beaumare is looking to get back in this thing.
17:45Yeah, I talked to him yesterday and said,
17:47you know, it was really just a mud race last weekend.
17:49He did crash early in Moto1 after a good start.
17:52He quads over that section there.
17:54But he admitted,
17:55I think the mud was going to be tough on him,
17:56even if he hadn't gone down.
17:57He said, this is round one for me.
17:59And it shows.
18:00Kitchen tried to make ground up.
18:02He just got around Schwartz.
18:04Now he's battling with the 141 of Romano.
18:0747 of Kitchen to the inside of the split lane.
18:09Yeah, and these two are close friends.
18:11Levi's like, you want to remain friends after this,
18:12you better let me go by.
18:14But nonetheless, the 47 gets the pass.
18:16And you got to remember,
18:17Levi came into the first round of the playoffs injured.
18:20So maybe with his faster intensity,
18:22maybe he's struggling from that,
18:23where the mud races sometimes you get away
18:26because the intensity level is down.
18:28Nonetheless, he knows he's got to get it done, Ricky.
18:30That's right.
18:30And there was a time,
18:31I think I heard that maybe he wasn't,
18:34he was contemplating not racing last weekend.
18:36So to your point,
18:37he's like, oh, I'll take a chance in the mud.
18:40Made it happen.
18:41Good ride for Drew Adams as well.
18:43Great to see him up here.
18:44Young prospect in the amateur ranks.
18:48Jason, as you know.
18:48Haven't quite seen some of the peaks
18:50that I think people were expecting.
18:52A lot of it is due to the starts.
18:53He finally got one,
18:54and he's riding well.
18:55And just to kind of parallel it
18:57for you guys that maybe don't know,
18:59is this was a guy that we thought
19:01was going to be in Cole Davies' position
19:03as an amateur.
19:04Just to show you how the tide changes.
19:06Yeah, the SMX next race is two, three years ago.
19:09They were battling wheel to wheel in these events.
19:11And you look at Davies now,
19:13two championships,
19:14and going for a third.
19:15This is a building process for Adams.
19:18And he rides with the Lawrence's
19:20at the Dog Pound there in Florida.
19:21So you know he has good people around him to learn.
19:23Sometimes with these riders,
19:24it just takes one.
19:26This could be it for him.
19:27Yeah, and I think even more to that,
19:28like just one of the things
19:30that sometimes you wonder with Cole,
19:31like once he got back up,
19:33he was only about a second,
19:34a couple seconds behind Drew.
19:35Drew was able to pull away
19:36towards at the end of this race.
19:38So even Drew in third place,
19:40believe me, he's going to take the fact
19:41that he was able to pull away from Cole,
19:43who's been so strong and dominant
19:45and winning everything this year
19:46and say, you know what,
19:47I can get him,
19:48especially at the end of the races.
19:49It only spawned him towards
19:50possibly beating him one day.
19:53Building confidence,
19:54all three of these riders.
19:55Adams third.
19:57DeFrancisco has been Mr. Consistency
19:59as of late
20:00and would be leading the series.
20:01And then Bomer looking for the moto win.
20:03Back here,
20:04more struggles for Davies.
20:06In fact, his buddy and teammate,
20:07Muneer, has caught him.
20:08Wow.
20:10Yeah, we saw this a couple times
20:12in outdoors,
20:13particularly Southwick,
20:14where Cole was just on the roll
20:15and then he had a couple falls
20:17and you would think maybe
20:19conditioning,
20:19that sand's really deep,
20:21where he looks like
20:22he should be able to march
20:23his way back up
20:24to at least get third.
20:25Now he's struggling
20:25to hold on to fourth place
20:26with his teammate.
20:28It's crazy, man.
20:29It's like,
20:29this guy is actually human.
20:31It's so easy,
20:32at least for me it is,
20:33to take the bait
20:34of these guys
20:34and be like,
20:35oh, he's going to win for sure.
20:37But there again,
20:38this is why you race.
20:39Yeah, I think there were
20:40a lot of assumptions there
20:41even in this race.
20:42He was moving forward,
20:43but Julian Bomair
20:44has proved to be
20:45a tough customer,
20:46fended off the pressure
20:47from Di Francesco.
20:48He's pulled into 3.7 seconds.
20:50He said he had to win here.
20:52That's all he was concerned with.
20:54The focus has been
20:54on the playoffs
20:56all year long.
20:57It's a pro motocross,
20:59actually the results
20:59and the wins started
21:00coming at him
21:01more quickly
21:02than he anticipated.
21:03But this has been
21:04what he has had
21:05on the calendar all year.
21:06Peaking for the playoffs
21:08and he's done it
21:09this afternoon.
21:09I hate to say it,
21:11but we always used to say
21:12can he ride any other conditions
21:13besides hard pack?
21:14Well, we're back at hard pack.
21:15We know that answer already.
21:17He's pretty good.
21:18And this is huge.
21:2018th last week in the mud.
21:21Going to get the moto win
21:22and restate his case
21:25for a championship.
21:26Julian Bomair
