01:13is the real danger man, shall we say,
01:15for the triumph domination otherwise.
01:16A rare foxhole shot for Camden McClellan if it was him who actually bagged it
01:20because Trentino race won 13th of April last year.
01:25That was his last foxhole shot.
01:27Wow.
01:27So talk about pulling a couple of starts out of the bag.
01:30A good one in the quali race yesterday,
01:31which had him in the hunt for the quali win.
01:33And obviously leading here at the end of this first official lap.
01:36McClellan leads from Ferez.
01:38Their gap over Evertz already starting to near two seconds.

02:29because he wants to win the GP overall.

02:41I doubt it.
02:43Captain McClellan is too competitive for that.
02:44Yeah, I think both of them are.
02:46I think even Ferez wouldn't accept that sort of win.
02:48It's kind of a similar situation that we saw
02:50to the Lawrence brothers in America.
02:52that, yeah, they're not just going to roll over for each other.
02:54They're great friends.
02:55They live together, as we all know.
02:56And, yeah, I think they just want to race proper, fair and fast.
03:00With Coonan there in fifth place,
03:02the gap between him and McClellan now is out to 50 points.
03:05So that's looking like 1-2 nailed in the championship for Ferez and McClellan.
03:10Of course, they don't want any hiccups here.
03:13Be respectful of the gap, be respectful of the race,
03:15push when you need to, give them room,
03:17as they have done on so many occasions this year.
03:19But they're also doing enough just to stay ahead of Liam Evertz there at the moment,
03:22who will be frustrated there in third place.
03:24A little bit of look over the shoulder there from the 99er, Ferez.
03:26Ferez wants to know exactly how much room he has to play with.
03:29Ferez a little bit more over to the middle,
03:30over that crest, into that right-hander that's caught him out a lap ago.
03:33Yeah, you'd have to, wouldn't you?
03:34And a great recovery from Giannis Reslis.
03:36We saw him go pinging sideways off the start line.
03:38Here is a quick message.
03:40You protect together.
03:42That is the message.
03:44Nice one.
03:44Just missed the one going to Ferez himself.
03:46But, yeah, Reslis, as I say, pinged off to the inside, off the start,
03:50but he's recovered well to hold fourth at the moment ahead of Sacha Kuhner.
03:55Well, in terms of scenarios and everything else, you know,
03:58it was like, let's say, Daniela Guillen in the first race yesterday.
04:02She got up front early and she was leading,
04:05and she knew that she needed to find her way past Chiara Fontenelle.
04:08That's exactly what she did, and went away.
04:09And then, you know, I mentioned it in the commentary yesterday,
04:12in terms of dream starts, you know, you go to bed at night going,
04:14you know what, get a good start, get up front early,
04:17do what you need to do, and if you do that,
04:20let everything else behind take care of itself.
04:23Could have gone from a six-point to a nine-point gap
04:25when Fontenelle finished fourth in the first race,
04:28and it went out to 13.
04:29They're the kind of moments you dream of.
04:31This is the moment that these two guys dream of,
04:33being one and two at the head of the field on World Championship winning day,
04:36not just for the team-mate, but also for the team as well.
04:39Triumph, a British brand who haven't had a world title from Britain, of course,
04:44let's say, just a British manufacturer since 1965.
04:48Triumph, they hadn't even won a Grand Prix before, you know.
04:53It was, they entered the World Championship back in 2024,
04:57and to see them here, two years, six months, ten days later,
05:02getting ready to wrap up the title, absolutely phenomenal,
05:05which will be 924 days.
05:08since they, you know, the race day on Sunday in Argentina,
05:12where Mikkel Harup, who's been a massive part of this process as well,
05:15being the first rider on the team, along with Camden McClellan,
05:18who's been on the journey for the last three years.
05:21You know, so to see Camden McClellan there as well,
05:24doing what he's doing, a part of this success,
05:27you know, because he could have done three years, four years,
05:29and not happen until year five,
05:31and, you know, maybe he's already moved on by then,
05:32and so for him to be there, part of it, from day one,
05:35you know, it's equally important to him as well,
05:38and equally as special.
05:39Yeah, for sure, and Camden McClellan has joined this team
05:41from being very much a privateer, a good EMX 250 rider,
05:45obviously an EMX 85 champion several years ago,
05:49but, yeah, for sure, he's continued his career here nicely.
05:52And just one moment there, just to add to your story about Triumph itself.
05:56They did win a GP as an engine supplier in a Matisse frame,
05:59back in 1966, Don Rickman, Farley Castle.
06:02Yeah, they only scored a few points in that same year, didn't they?
06:04Yeah, that's right, yeah, the name itself is just so historic,
06:07but, yeah, like you say, that was not a pure Triumph machine,
06:09so it didn't really count.
06:11Yeah, and actually, 124 years old, Triumph as a company, 1902,
06:15when they, you know, first put a bicycle together
06:19with a 50cc Belgian Minerva engine into that bike.
06:22They didn't actually produce their own bike
06:23until a couple of years later with its own in-house engine
06:26and all the rest of it.
06:27It wasn't until First World War where, over the next four years,
06:30during that war, they ramped up around 30,000 motorcycles
06:33providing bikes for the Allied troops,
06:35and that was officially the first off-road vehicle motorcycle
06:39that kind of went down in history.
06:41And here we are, 2026, you know, two and a half years nearly,
06:45just over into this project,
06:46and they're looking at wrapping up this championship.
06:48But what a team of experts they've got behind them as well.
06:50Yeah, they've certainly worked at this release.
06:53You can see by several new manufacturers coming into the championship as well,
06:56we're going to have two more from China next year.
06:58So a model there, Triumph, showing how it can be done.
07:01But for sure, it's been a massive, massive effort all around,
07:04and truly international as well.
07:06Yeah, and you've got Sasha Coonan here, of course.
07:10Coonan just going through the motions now.
07:12He had an off yesterday on his fast lap in time practice
07:14at the top of that hill just after the first monster step down
07:17into that uphill right-hander just prior to this, actually.
07:23And he launched himself, and I just think that maybe detuned him.
07:27He was sixth in the qualifying race, went too early on the gate,
07:30had to come from behind just to get to that position.
07:33But then points lost again as Cameron McClellan,
07:36his main rival, fourth second in the championship,
07:38getting the win for the third time, a crucial win in that instance.
07:42But, yeah, Sasha Coonan, a year, just like Lucas Coonan,
07:46a year of what could have been, you know,
07:48if, buts, maybe, shoulda, woulda, couldas, and all the rest of it.
07:50But that won't change the fact of the situation where we are now.
07:56Two Triumphs leading the way.
07:57Cameron McClellan, Guillem-Ferez.
07:59Ferez fancies a go at his teammate here, I would have to imagine.
08:02He's not letting him out of his side, is he? That's for sure.
08:04Gap was 1.1 seconds at the last split at the bottom of the hill there,
08:08just to their right-hand side.
08:10And we get ready to hit the line at the end of lap four.
08:13That gap will still hover around about 1, 1.3 seconds.
08:16And there is the big boss on the left, Thierry Shizat-Suzoni.
08:22Had a good long chat with him on Friday down there in the paddock area.
08:28And I said it to Ian Kimber, who is the global head of motorsports for motorsport programs for Triumph,
08:34who was on our studio show on Saturday here on-site,
08:37said every time he talks about Nick Bloor, the CEO of Triumph Motorcycles,
08:41he refers to him as Mr. Bloor.
08:43Mr. Bloor has been helpful.
08:44Mr. Bloor has, you know, and I find that absolutely fascinating.
08:47But the respect all the way through, from the top, from CEOs to everybody, right the way down to,
08:54and this is not disparaging when I say right the way down to,
08:57everybody in the backroom staff, you know, because it's not just about these two riders here,
09:02all their mechanics, all the front of house, like Thierry, like Vincent, like those guys.
09:07Hinkley and all their suppliers, all their sponsors have all played their part.
09:12It takes more than these two guys to make this team function.
09:16The test riders, you know, Ricky Carmichael in the past, Ivan Tedesco, Mikkel Harrop,
09:22you know, Clermont de Salle, who rides with them on a regular basis,
09:25who looks after them, has worked their program.
09:27You know, there are a lot of people in this program that are making this happen,
09:31and, you know, they've properly thrown a spanner in the works to the usual big hitters,
09:36because, you know, the brands that have been around forever, like KTM, like Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, and the rest.
09:41Yeah, they've certainly shown them the way, and anybody who's been to a European GP there
09:44will have seen the fantastic Triumph set-up as well.
09:46You can usually see it standing clear of everybody in the paddock,
09:49a two-storey set-up with the riders' quarters up in the top there,
09:53which is very much like, and it's very exclusive access there, even on behind the gate,
09:57it was like, one cameraman can come up, no one else, and I'd be there as a journalist saying,
10:00oh, but I want to see, and it just simply will not let you.
10:03So, yeah, it's been fantastically tightly managed and a really impressive presence in the paddock from the very outset.
10:09Well, the first five riders separated by 6.4 seconds here at the moment,
10:13and, of course, Cameron McClellan with 1.7 over his teammate,
10:17who has 1.4 over Everts, who has 1.7 over Raceless,
10:22and then another 1.4 over Sascha Kunin.
10:24Kunin just there in blue, heading up the hill,
10:26still believes he can win this race, potentially.
10:31But it will be almost, you know, you can say he lost second overall,
10:38or he lost the championship at this place, here or there, or whatever else,
10:40but it's an accumulation of results, isn't it?
10:42Whether it's him or anybody else in that position.
10:44You know, you look at where he did well, look at where he did wrong,
10:47and then you look at where things could have been a lot better,
10:49and there's going to be a few of those conversations had over the next few days with Sascha and the
10:55team.
10:56Yeah, for sure.
10:57I mean, it's not something you'd usually associate with Sascha,
10:59who is normally Mr. Full Gas.
11:01You can usually tell he's coming even before you see him.
11:03The engine note is distinctively flat out on Sascha Kunin's machine,
11:07but I'm not sure if he's going to hold back,
11:09because the last thing he wants is a winter dealing with an injury.
11:12Let's take another look at the start, then, of this race,
11:15where Cameron McClellan and Guillaume Perez duped it out for the foxhole shot.
11:19at the top of the hill.
11:22Both of them there, line of stern, next to each other, bar to bar.
11:25It was a better jump for Perez,
11:27but as he drifted a little wide here to protect
11:29what was coming in from the outside there, from Kunin, ran him to the outside.
11:33A bite length by the time they got to the top of the hill,
11:35McClellan found his way past his teammate.
11:37Of course, when they hit the city jump,
11:38they were looking at each other, shaking their heads
11:39and having fun right from that very first moment.
11:43But you see there, going defensive.
11:46He opened the door for his teammate to sneak on through as well.
11:48Oh, Everett's emerged there in third.
11:50First foxhole shot of the season for Cameron McClellan.
11:52It's turning into a regular occurrence in this first corner at Darwin.
11:55Of course, yes, Kunin clearly going to go around the outside,
11:58so Perez had to box him off,
12:00and that allowed McLennan to come through
12:01and claim that foxhole shot award.
12:03But, yeah, like I say, the first one of the entire season,
12:05the first one since he turned it into his first ever race win
12:08back there in Trentino last year.
12:09So, yeah, a great result there for McLennan,
12:12but helped by the circumstance of that first corner.
12:14Yeah, absolutely.
12:15Well, you've got to be in it to win it.
12:18Anyway, what have we got left?
12:1917 and a half minutes plus two laps.
12:21The two Triumph riders continue to stalk each other.
12:24Looks like Cameron McClellan has just injected a little bit of pace
12:28into his race here at the moment.
12:31Nice showing from Byron Dennis as well.
12:32It appears he's got past Carsmakers.
12:34Not sure if Kai's had a moment somewhere,
12:35but the Aussie, home hero in the top six at the moment,
12:38which is a fantastic ride.
12:39Seventh in the quality race yesterday.
12:41He started in fourth and got the crowd into it.
12:43I'm sure they're getting behind him out there now.
12:45Went eight, seven in China one weekend ago
12:47in his third appearance in MX2,
12:50because obviously he did China and Australia last year as well.
12:53But, yeah, good to see the KTM Australia rider here.
12:56His team mate Dylan Walsh in the MXGP category
12:58coming up a little later on.
12:59But all eyes on these two here.
13:01Liam Everett's now two seconds further back.
13:03Yeah, Brando Palato there just going a lap down already.
13:06The Italian who actually rides out here
13:08mainly because his sister does compete
13:09in the main Australian series.
13:11So Brando follows his sibling around there,
13:13but the unfortunate thing for Brian Giles
13:15is that Palato nicked his normal race number,
13:17which is why Brian Giles, the Brit,
13:18is running number 576 this weekend.
13:20Well, let's go down a pit lane.
13:21I believe we're going down to speak to Triumph with Lisa
13:24with 16 and a half minutes plus two laps to go.
13:27and what is turning out to be a very memorable,
13:29a very special day here for Triumph here in MX2 in Australia.
13:37Thierry, it's going to be a very historic day
13:39for the Triumph Factory racing team.
13:41Guillaume's looking to seal his very first world title
13:43for himself and also for the team.
13:45But it's just nice at the moment
13:47with your two boys battling it out,
13:48having fun at the Sharpen.
13:50Yeah, for the team, for sure, it's exceptional.
13:53But first for Triumph,
13:54because when we start the project,
13:57the goal is to win in five years
14:01and now it's possible to win the title in three years.
14:05It's fantastic for all,

14:16before this first race

14:25we know that the riders,
14:26they progress a lot during the winter
14:28and for us, to be honest,
14:31the goal was to finish
14:33at the first and the second place.
14:35And when we arrive in June, July,
14:40we are sure we finish
14:43at the first place.
14:45And it's just because
14:48they work so hard during the winter
14:50and the staff is very strong.

15:40but they've just,
15:41as we said before,
15:42injected a little bit more pace.
15:44Camden tried it a lap ago.
15:45Ferez has decided to up it
15:46to go with his teammate.
15:47And that's the best way
15:48for him to do it as well.
15:49Just keep yourself sharp,
15:50keep yourself focused.
15:51because you need to be focused
15:52around this racetrack
15:53because it's hard and slick in places,
15:54a little bit stodgy in others.
15:56One little loss of concentration,
15:57you'll find yourself
15:58eating the dirt pretty rapidly
16:00if you're not careful.
16:00So Ferez and McClellan
16:02working together,
16:04keeping each other on their toes.
16:05And that is the best way
16:06to attack this race.

19:17was set to ride that bike,

19:20at the very start of the year

19:23Marc-Antoine decided
19:23the motocross
19:24was no longer going to be for him
19:25and Groh stepped up
19:27to the plate on late notice,
19:28flew out to Argentina
19:29with virtually no prep
19:30or warm up at all
19:31but he kept fit over the winter
19:33and in case some ride
19:34came along
19:34and he has truly
19:36paid it back there,
19:37yeah,
19:37needs 25 points today
19:38to get past Valan
19:39and score 11th
19:40in the world championship,
19:41not bad at all
19:42although he would have
19:43had a moment there
19:43as the heart rate spiked
19:45going up that hill.
19:46Yeah,
19:46he's had a couple of
19:47six place finishes
19:47both in race two
19:48in Czech Republic
19:49and also in Turkey
19:51a couple of weeks ago,
19:52he's had a couple of six overalls

19:53over the course of the season

19:59but he's obviously growing as well,

20:11but he's picked himself up

20:14been very methodical
20:14and he's been very professional
20:16in his outlook with the team
20:17and I'm sure they've enjoyed
20:18having him there as well
