00:00Warning, this album may contain backwards satanic mass messaging.
00:04You put that in your liner notes so you don't have to do it.
00:06It might.
00:07Oh my God.
00:08These guys are so wow out there.
00:11Evil.
00:11Right.
00:12Devil.
00:12We're flirting with the devil by listening to this.
00:16They shout at him all the time.
00:18That was always, that was a bit counterintuitive also.
00:20Are they pro Satan or are they anti Satan?
00:24Are they shouting at him?
00:26What are they shouting?
00:27Get out of here would be one thing.
00:29What's up, yo?
00:31Yo.
00:32Come here.
00:32Shout at the devil.
00:33Let's hang out.
00:34What do you need from me?
00:36What do you need from me?
00:37If that's what they were shouting at the devil, that's a whole different story.
00:40Shouts to me, I was a beaut.
00:43What, what?
00:44The Bills play tomorrow.
00:46Detroit is, well, they'll be arriving today at some point.
00:49The Lions will.
00:52What are we thinking?
00:53How are we feeling?
00:54They look pretty healthy.
00:55The first, the injury report came out.
00:58I'm driving yesterday.
00:59I got a text message from the Bills and my thought, I'm driving with my son and I said,
01:04Ooh, cause it pops up on my, I'm driving in the truck.
01:07It's like new message from Buffalo Bills.
01:10And I could hit listen, but if I hit listen, it's just going to read me a, a Twitter thing.
01:16W, W, W dot, X dot com slash Buffalo Bills slash three, two, one, six, four, nine, one.
01:24Like that's what it's going to do.
01:25So I didn't do that.
01:25Wait until I got to a red light, check the message.
01:27But I said to my son, the Bills texting at five o'clock on a Tuesday, or Tuesday.
01:35I wonder if this is Josh being player of the week or Russo being player of the week.
01:40Like that was the only thing I could think of.
01:41Was it an injury report?
01:42It was an injury report, but it's because they play Thursday.
01:45If, if we wouldn't have that on a Tuesday.
01:47So it was surprising to me, but the injury report looked okay.
01:51Uh, there was, there was only one did not practice and it was not a super ride.
01:56I know I should just have this open in front of me, but it, it was an unscary injury report.
02:01I'll put it that way.
02:03What are your thoughts on this opener being on Thursday night to your point about having an injury report on.
02:11We also had one on Monday.
02:12It was a projection, but to have an injury report on Monday, which is the things that happen when you
02:16have a Thursday game,
02:16but it's this home opener and you don't get the ramp up.
02:21Do you want to ramp up or do you want this home opener over with on Thursday night?
02:25I think from a selfish reason you can get to, I can enjoy my weekend.
02:28But if as a bills fan, would you rather this be a one o'clock Sunday game?
02:33You have your buildup for the entire season.
02:36You get your tailgating plans or your routines and your rituals all set.
02:42There are no routines or rituals for Thursday night, really.
02:45Yeah. I think the difference you're asking people attending the game versus people who are not because I'm watching it.
02:51Well, no watching it. I don't care, but just put it on. I want it on now.
02:54But don't you want an anticipation to kind of spike or crescendo that we've done it?
02:59I've done it. I've done it. It's just that they didn't open at home.
03:02We've built up to it there. This is going to be finally after tomorrow.
03:06Tomorrow, we can stop saying the first bills thing because it was the first time you could get in for
03:12the practice.
03:13And then it was the first real game or preseason game. Excuse me.
03:17And now this will be the first real game. And then we could stop saying the first game.
03:21We're not opening the stadium anymore.
03:23I hear that.
03:23So I'm fine with that. And the fact that I'm not attending, I'm just watching it on TV.
03:27I wish it was on tonight. I'm ready. They're not.
03:31Three days off would be bad. Let's give them four.
03:33But did we properly digest the opener?
03:36Sorry, it is three. You know what I mean.
03:37Did we properly digest the opener and then look at all the different matchup nuances that we feel way more
03:46encyclopedic about when we have three days?
03:49We didn't get that off day Tuesday where we're like, all right, let's put this Houston Texans game to bed.
03:54We spent three months getting ready for Houston and we're going to spend the next three hours getting ready for
03:59Detroit.
03:59We forgot. You've got to move on from Houston, even though it was considered an AFC championship game preview and
04:06this great defense and the bills obliterate them.
04:09And on Monday, we're already looking at the injury report for the Lions and we're kind of doing both.
04:14All right, we've got one foot in the Texans analysis, but we're already inching towards the Lions preview.
04:21And so Thursday night, what do we expect?
04:24It's the short week, which we know players don't like.
04:28They're not as healthy as they can be.
04:30Some players, I'm not saying this with the bills, it's not like I have inside info, but between the two
04:35teams or Thursday night games in general, some guys don't have enough time to get ready to even play.
04:41So if the game were on Sunday, maybe the guy plays, but Thursday night he can't.
04:45And so it's a bad brand of football sometimes.
04:49However, we just saw both of these teams have pinball scores, pinball offenses.
04:58Yeah, yeah.
04:58Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
05:00And we saw the last time they played each other.
05:02And defenses that struggled a little bit.
05:04So of course it'll probably be a 13-10 game.
05:06But you would expect each team in the 30s, right?
05:12Yeah, yeah.
05:13I think, I mean, that's the easiest thing to envision is something like that.
05:19And like you said, maybe it won't happen.
05:20Possessions that go five plays, 72 yards.
05:26Minute 44.
05:27Exactly.
05:28Yeah, just back and forth the whole time.
05:29I'm down with that.
05:30I'm cool.
05:33I am great with play Sunday, play Thursday.
05:37Like as a fan, I don't have to physically do anything.
05:40I just watch on television.
05:41So it's easy.
05:42The part I'm not ready for is them not playing again until next Sunday after tomorrow.
05:46Because it's like, when is football getting here?
05:49When is it getting here?
05:49Here it is.
05:50Here it is again.
05:52Wait, hold, hold, hold.
05:55That part I don't like.
05:57But that's what, you know, college and the rest of the NFL is for, is to fill in the
06:01gaps while we're waiting for Bills games.
06:03But we've got one tomorrow that I'm pretty pumped about.
06:05And yeah, I looked at it when we were first talking about this, probably Monday.
06:10What do you figure the over-under is on this?
06:12Like 94 and a half or something?
06:15Because it's difficult.
06:16When you watch Bills Texans and 44 points are scored in the first half or whatever it
06:21was, right?
06:2224-20 at the half.
06:23Something like that.
06:25What does Bills Lions look like?
06:28And so I'm pumped for all of it.
06:30What I don't like is having to, well, I mean, I guess this happens all the time, but figuring
06:36out all the like fantasy stuff and pools and all that, getting that in in time for Thursday
06:43is the most annoying part about fantasy football, I think, is like getting your week ready already.
06:48I'm not ready for that, but I am ready to watch the Bills play.
06:51And I'm ready to, you know, hear about the experience in the stadium that isn't about
06:57the stadium, but rather is about football.
06:59Because when people went there just for a practice and to look around, it came away with
07:05a bunch of complaints.
07:07But there wasn't real football to talk about.
07:09And then there was a preseason game and there were fewer complaints about the stadium.
07:13And I think when there's real football, the whole story is going to be the football game
07:16and that makes me happy.
07:17For the record, the total on this game is 54-and-a-half.
07:21That's up.
07:21It was 52-and-a-half when I checked it.
07:23The over is getting hammered because, yeah, that's two points up from when it was opened.
07:30The other thing about rushing right into Thursday night game, there are so many things that
07:38you would get to, players who would get some shine, or maybe even some knocks based on
07:47how they performed.
07:49Deion Walker, I think, has been overlooked.
07:51This performance that he had on Sunday was incredible.
07:54And that's a classic, we went back and looked at the film and here's a piece that's going
07:59to run on Tuesday or Wednesday.
08:00But we're already focused on the Lions, his hometown team, by the way.
08:05But anyways, there are these types of things that slip through the cracks with the quick
08:10week.
08:11I'll spit it out.
08:12With the quick week.
08:13And so anyways, I think that that gets us out of our system, especially in the media and
08:18as fans, as we consume, is we feel like we've properly, to use your phrase, put the last
08:26game to bed.
08:27Tuck it in.
08:28Pat it on the head.
08:29Read it a story.
08:29Now we can focus on Detroit, as opposed to there's just so many untied loose ends that
08:39we haven't gotten to.
08:40But maybe that's good early on, too, because context, give us more games.
08:44Give us more games as quick as we can, so that way we can know what this team's all about.
08:48Then again, you flip back to the other side of the logic and say, yeah, but is it the real
08:52Bills on four days?
08:54Is it the real Lions?
08:55I mean, what do we really know?
08:57So there's so many variables involved.
09:01I will say this.
09:02Everybody hates Thursday games.
09:04Players, the league, hates these games.
09:06I'll take it now, as opposed to a month from now, when you're really, you know, four weeks,
09:13five weeks into an NFL season and the guys are actually beat up.
09:16Right now, it's like, yeah, I'm a little sore.
09:17I can do it.
09:18I'll be fine.
09:20So I prefer this to be the Thursday spot for the Bills.
09:23Do they play again on a Thursday?
09:25I don't think so.
09:26Yeah.
09:27Oh, well, Thanksgiving.
09:28Thanksgiving.
09:28That feels different for some reason.
09:32I don't know.
09:34At this point in the season, I feel like they would have wanted to play Monday, at least
09:39Tuesday.
09:40Maybe not Monday.
09:40You want to take one day off.
09:41But I'm ready.
09:43I assume that it's early enough in the season that you shouldn't see.
09:47I mean, it's two good teams.
09:48Part of Thursday Night Football games stinking is that that's where they put all the teams
09:54they don't want in actual prime time, but you have to give somebody a prime time so that
09:58you get, hey, it's the Cardinals and the Colts.
10:01This game stinks.
10:03Thursday Night Football.
10:04No.
10:04They just put it there.
10:06This is Bills-Lions.
10:07This is headlining most NFL Sundays.
10:11It would either be an 8 o'clock game or a standalone 4 o'clock game or almost the featured.
10:18This is a big deal.
10:20If you squint, it's a Super Bowl preview.
10:22Two years ago when these guys played, it absolutely was a Super Bowl preview.
10:26But with Detroit not making the playoffs last year, having a disappointing season, you may
10:30need to squint a little bit.
10:32But these are two teams that could play in February.
10:36I don't.
10:38We always talk about the AFC.
10:40And we spent a lot of time yesterday sort of discounting last year's playoff teams
10:47as any precursor to what's happening this year.
10:50Because I just think last year was an anomaly.
10:52I think some of the best teams didn't make it.
10:54And then some of the best teams didn't advance.
10:57And to have New England and Denver in the championship game is not representative of who
11:03the best teams were in the AFC.
11:05On the NFC side, we don't talk as often about it.
11:08I still view Detroit the same way that I would view Baltimore.
11:11Like, who are we looking out for this year?
11:14All right.
11:14Let's start with the Bills and the Chiefs and the Ravens.
11:17And let's start with the Eagles and the Rams and the Lions over here.
11:22I'd put them there.
11:23I guess the Niners creep into that, too.
11:24But ignoring last year, just who are these franchises?
11:30Where are they in their timeline?
11:33The Lions are right there.
11:34So, yes, I don't feel like I have to squint much to get to Bill's Lions could be a Super
11:40Bowl preview.
11:40I'm there.
11:43In relation to the betting and all the early money that's coming in, we talked about how
11:47it's gone from 52-and-a-half to 54-and-a-half.
11:50It may go higher.
11:51We'll see.
11:52There's still some time to get your money in.
11:54But the betting public also, heavy on the Bills.
11:59This opened as a three-point game, the Bills being the three-point favorite.
12:04It's mostly 4-and-a-half.
12:07But you can get it at 5-and-a-half at DraftKings and 5 at Hard Rock, 5 at Fanatics.
12:15So it is creeping.
12:16Oh, no, it's 5-and-a-half.
12:18Okay.
12:185-and-a-half?
12:18So I think the consensus now is 5-and-a-half.
12:20I'm sorry.
12:21I saw some 4-and-a-halves in there and thought that maybe – no.
12:24What is that?
12:25So it's up 2-and-a-half points.
12:26Is that a negative on Detroit?
12:28Or is that –
12:29The money is coming in on Buffalo.
12:31No, I know, but why is what I'm asking.
12:34What has changed?
12:34Because the first – I didn't see it at 3.
12:36I saw it at 3-and-a-half was the first I saw it.
12:38Probably confidence, consumer confidence, I'll say.
12:41The Bills beat a much better opponent than the Detroit Lions beat.
12:45The Detroit Lions needed overtime to beat the Saints.
12:48The Bills went to Houston.
12:50Not overtime, but they needed to hold off a two-point conversion.
12:53Oh, it wasn't – that's right.
12:54That's right.
12:54Or was it overtime?
12:55It wasn't overtime.
12:56No, they were going for two.
12:57Was it?
12:58Did Detroit score an overtime?
12:59Either way.
13:00Either way.
13:00They won by one when the Saints went for two.
13:04I don't remember if it was regulation or overtime.
13:05That's right.
13:06And meanwhile, the Bills on the road against a dominant defense that ragdolled them last year,
13:13I think it's, man, that Bills win was way more impressive than the Lions win.
13:17And the Bills, consistent in terms of playoff success, made it there, won a playoff game
13:23last year.
13:24Detroit didn't make it out of the NFC North.
13:26So I think it's probably that.
13:28Yeah, that game did go into overtime.
13:30Okay, yeah.
13:31Now that I remember.
13:3131 to 30.
13:32Yeah, it was like two minutes left in overtime, and they could tie it, which would have ended
13:37up being a tie game, probably.
13:39Or they could try to win, and they did.
13:41And I liked it.
13:42I respect it.
13:42I liked the decision to go for it, because the best you can do is tie.
13:45There's still a chance you could lose.
13:47Yes.
13:48So you might as well go for the win.
13:50You need two yards to win.
13:52So, yes.
13:54I had a point.
13:55I'll skip it, because we have to take a break.
13:57It's WGR, and portions of today's show are brought to you by Tim Hortons, the official
14:03coffee of the Jeremy and Joe Morning Show on WGR.
14:05Start your day strong with Tim Hortons and the Bills.
14:08It's WGR Middays, driven by Northtown Automotive.
14:11We'll be right back on WGR.
